I *just* found out that I'm pregnant--not a huge surprise but still a shock I was due to start stabilization at the end of the week. I'm not really sure where to go from here...I know I probably don't need to be on the green menu anymore, but I also don't need all the extra calories until 2nd or 3rd tri. I'm thinking I need to be on a modified version of maintenance, w/ a few extra calories and extra calcium. How can I get there without gaining 20 lbs in the next two weeks!?!?!?! A rapid weight gain is what I fear most right now, diet-wise.
Of course I'll talk to my center and to my doctor, but do any of you have any suggestions or experience w/ this? I'm going to discontinue all the pills except my prenatal vitamin but I wonder if I can safely have the HNS, at least until I transition to a higher cal diet?

Congrats!! That is so awesome!!I know that mentally I am not where I need to be to not "go crazy" if I found out I was pregnant. I think I would still use it as an excuse to eat everything---so don't be like me!!! haha I think it would be wise not to take all of those pills, but definately ask about everything else!
Congrats! How exciting! I think you should just relax about the diet and try to keep you and your baby healthy. You seem to be at a healthy weight already, so a few extra lbs aren't going to be the end of the world. New mommies need a little extra fat.
Congratulations, I am not sure atbout the Metabolic Research Center because I am on Weight Watchers, they have a specific plan in mind for pregnant and nursing mothers, I am sure your plan does as well speak with both the people at Metobolic research Center and your Dr. you might want to bring all the information you have on your plan to your Dr. in case they are not familiar with it that way everyone is on the same page and both you and your baby remain fit and healthy
Wow, congrats!!!!! I am sure that between ur center and doctor, that ur weight will stay w/in a healthy margin during ur prego stage. Just don't deprive yourself of cravings, cause ur body is needing something!
Thanks for all your well wishes and support. Bonnie hit the nail on the head--I'm worried that once I start adding in foods that I haven't had in 4 months I will completely binge! I had the "eat whatever I want" mentality with my last pregnancy, which is part of the reason I had so much to lose w/ MRC in the first place! I definitely want to be more responsible about it this time. I keep thinking it would be exciting to top out at a weight that is less than or the same as the weight I was at when I first got pregnant with #1 (165). It would be nice to only have 15lbs to lose this time!

Congratulations!!! I think that maybe the fact that you've just gone through this weight loss phase might help keep you from going crazy on the food wagon this time around. If you've been exercising, keep that up (just walking would be great). Talk to your dr about how many calories you need, and MRC can help keep you within that calorie range. The maintenance menu is really a good balanced menu so it should work great for you if you maybe add a few extra calories, maybe with a light snack or two. You might also talk with MRC about your year of maintenance - whether you want to use it now or can you maybe do a "medical hold" type thing, not sure how that would work. But then again that year of maintenance might be just what you need for the next few months to keep you on track.
But most of all, congratulations!!!
There is a great site that is FREE that set up a food plan/calculator for me while I was pregnant. It even calculates how much calcium, fiber, folic acid (which is really important) and other essentials you should be getting each day.

Hi Meemo, and thanks. I HOPE I've learned enough from MRC to continue healthy eating habits, but I have to admit that I've started fantasizing about mexican food, pizza, Chick Fil A, etc! I know that MRC does not offer any menu program for pregnant women, and I'm afraid that they will not allow me to continue on stab/maintenance for liability reasons. Which I understand, but I'm thinking I might like to try an accelerated version of stabilization and then get my hands on a maintenance menu. You know how tight they are with that information! I considered keeping my pregnancy a secret from them, but that could get complicated with weigh ins and food journals--if I'm hungry, I'm actually going to eat now So, I'll probably talk to the center manager (who happens to be pregnant) on Thursday and see if I should still go to stab class that night and what, if anything, they can do to help me through this.
Congratulations on your baby news! Just try to think of this as a way to stay healthy for YOU and your baby. Anything that would put on unhealthy weight would not be good for the baby or you so if you think of it that way it will be easier to keep healthy. You can still make good choices and eat when you need to eat. Good luck and keep us all posted!!

Congratulations! I don't think the HNS can hurt you at all. In fact all the protein should be good for you and baby. I would talk to your Dr. He/She will know best what you should do. At least you are starting your preganancy at a healthy weight.
