Default Anyone doing MF with Thyroid problems?

I've been told to not eat soy when you have thyroid problems. But their whole meal plan is soy based. So I'd like to know if anyone out there is doing this diet successfully that is also taking thyroid meds.
I emailed MF nutritionist and instead of actually reading my email she just sent me back a list of products for people with allergies that don't contain egg!

The medifast website has a list of the foods that do not contain soy or only contain minimal amounts. Actually at the top of the list is the egg allergen info and if you scroll down almost to the bottom it lists the soy free items. There aren't a lot of choices that are soy free, but I am hypothyroid and have found a few things. I allow a little but I am careful to eat it far away from my meds.

I ended up talking to one of the reps at a local office and she said as long as it's 2 hours after thyroid meds it's fine. She said alot of their clients are hypothyroid and it's not a problem. Not sure I totally believe that.

why is soy back with thyroid issues? i just signed up with medifast yesterday, i get my food tuesday, i got the gluten free package as i have digestive issues... my mom has thyroid issues and when i first started gaining weight rapidly a few years ago she suggested i go get blood work done... they said i was hypothyroid and i was on VERY minimal doses of levothyroxine, like 0.75mcg or something like that... i didn't feel any different from when i took the pills to when i didnt, so i stopped taking them, i had more blook work done without being on the meds and they said my levels were fine, so i haven't gotten back on it... is the soy an issue with the thyroid, or with the meds? thanks!

Soy is very controversial. But It's not something I even want to mess with considering I already have thyroid issues. I was told by my Dr that it is not good and I should avoid it. So usually I do whey type of protien but MF has very few items that are soy free. From what I understand it can cause an enlarged thyroid and interfer with how a body produce T3 T4. I wish they used whey but I"m sure that's more expensive then soy.
Correct thyroid levels are also contoversial. They should have a standard rating but there isn't. And even if your levels are on the higher end but still in there range you could still have a problem with your thyroid. Most dr's just check the tsh and not the free t4 which gvies a better picture. You may not have been given the correct dose to make you feel better. It's an ongoing thing to keep it at the correct range. And alot goes by how you are feeling at that particular dosage. At least is't like that with mine.

Admittedly I used Medifast to kickstart my weightloss but it gave me noooo energy. When I finally stopped (moved back home and the international shipping would have cost way too much) I went to a nutritionist. She had me do some blood tests and found out I had thyroid problems.

Now I've done blood tests before when I was younger and I was fine (however, as gemi2 stated thyroid levels are controversial so I'm still not sure how 'fine' I was.) When the nutritionist realized that I was healthier when I was younger, she claimed that I was susceptible to hypothyroidism to begin with (my family has autoimmune issues) and MediFast probably aggravated it even more. She has been researching this for a while, before I ever visited her.

Now she isn't a doctor so I took what she said with a grain of salt. However she is doing a study about it and is still researching the effects. Still, there is the notion that perhaps people who have already developed hypothyroidism may have started on Medifast because they are so frustrated with how impossible it is for them to lose weight to begin with. But then there is the chance that they developed hypothyroidism AFTER they started Medifast.

So there have been people who are worried about how MediFast and thyroids affect each other; just thought I should offer my own experiences.

Exactly Desert Tabby. I already have the problem so I sure don't want to make it worse. I'm on natural thyroid replacement because I had an issue with the synthetic kind.
It looks like you've lost alot of weight. how did you manage with the tyroid issues?
I'm thinking wonderslim instead of medifast because of the soy issue.
But I noticed some foods don't have as high of fiber. Is there a quick way to add that other then flax or any of those gritty additives?

Wonderslim bars contain soy protein. It's really important to read the list of ingredients on any product. You might be surprised.
