What do I order?

  • At the MF website they have a variety package, an enhanced or momentum package. There is quite a price difference. Has anyone tried the enhanced or momentum and was there a noticable difference? Or can I get the same affect with a good multi vitamin?
    Thanks,
    D
  • I like the basic 4 week plus one free package with the second month. It gave me time to work it in. Now I'm trying some of the other stuff and seeing how it goes. I'll add other stuff as I go along.
  • I ordered the basic variety package with the 2 free weeks at first. Now I am ordering specific foods instead of using the variety package, though I suspect I'll order the variety pack again when school starts up in the fall.

If I am not mistaken, the only thing different in the enhanced package is a bottle of Omega 3 vitamins. I'm sure you could pick up a bottle of those at a drug store cheaper than through Medifast.

I've heard the momentum package is for those who have been on a plateau and needed a boost to their weight loss. The momentum products contain caffeine, which most of their other products do not have.

If I was just starting the program, I would start with the basic variety package. I think you get more for your money and a good sampling of the products Medifast offers.

    Good luck with your decision.
  • The Momentum products are usually only used when someone experiences a plateau. At least that's what Nutrition Support said in one of their posts in the MF forums. They contain some stimulants such as caffeine that are thermogenics and I don't think they recommend these products to people who are just starting.

Since you are new to the program, you might get the 2 or 4 week variety packs of the normal, non-momentum products to see how they work for you. The same 2 and 4-week discounts are available a-la-carte too, in case there are things in the variety packages you don't think you'll like. I knew there were several items in the variety packs, like the cappachino, that I wouldn't like, so I went the a-la-carte route and it's worked out great for me.

Also, you shouldn't take a multivitamin while doing the MF 5&1 plan, since the packets provide all the nutrients you'll get in a multivitamin anyway. Fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A & D can get stored in your body and can cause problems if you have too much.
  • WELL i make up my own package... because I dont care for some of the food
  • I just placed my mf order a couple of days ago, but i made my own order and didn't go with any of the packages because I don't like oatmeal or egg substitutes. My order is heavy on the shakes and soups, because the website says that you should only eat one bar a day, so I only ordered a few boxes of those.

    Hope this helps

  • Thanks everyone! This helps alot. I'll be back next month when I start the MF. (i am finishing another plan right now) I'm sure I will have more questions.
Good luck everyone! I'll be lurking to see how much weight loss is going on!
  • I definitely recommend making your own package... I'm gluten intolerant, so I had to make a custom pack from the beginning, and I don't mind that. I've really enjoyed the food so far!
  • I've decided to give this a try but I'm making a custom pack to see if I like it.

    I'm getting:

    Medifast 55 Shakes -Swiss Mocha
    Bars -Peanut Butter
    Soups - Chicken Noodle

I don't like pudding or the scramble eggs (boiled for me thanks)
I would order the oatmeal if I can eat it cold with milk.
  • We did a custom package, too. Many of the foods didn't appeal to us, and as vegetarians we were not going to eat most of the soups. We found we did better with just the beverages and the oatmeal. The bars were too tempting We ate the oatmeal as 'oatmeal cookies' instead of in the bowl, which made a big difference. We always saved our lean and green for dinner because if we ate it for lunch, we were not as satisfied in the evenings.
  • Hi Suzanne,

Do you have a recipe for the oatmeal cookies?

    Thanks,
    D
  • Yes

    It's pretty much this recipe
    http://www.medifast-recipes.com/appl...tmeal-cookies/

1 pkt Medifast Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal
¼ tsp cinnamon (you can add/change as you wish)
1-3 packets Splenda sweetener (your preference)
    1/3 cup water
    1/8 tsp baking powder
    ½ tsp vanilla extract

    Pre-heat oven to 350°.

Mix all dry ingredients together. Add extract and water.
Stir until moistened. Set aside for 5-10 minutes to allow ingredients to achieve appropriate consistency.

Place spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet and bake for 10 - 15 minutes or until cookies have browned. Cookies tend to be soft. You may need to bake them longer, depending upon your personal likes.

Though I didn't use that much water. I just added it in a tablespoon at a time until it was like cookie dough. I patted it into two cookies.
  • Yummm. That sounds great. I'm going to try them. Thanks Suzanne! and thanks for the link. Looks like some pretty tasty dishes if I'm feeling creative!
  • Some of those recipes look kinda good... hmm..
  • Did anybody try the cookie recipe lately? Just wondereing how it came out.
