Smile Welcome To The Thin For Life Discussion Group!

Welcome to the Maintainers Forum and to our Thin For Life (TFL) discussion group. Everyone is welcome to join in the book discussion - as well as the Maintainers Forum - whether you’re losing, maintaining, or even just contemplating losing. Some of us are dealing with our weight issues for the first time, others have tried and failed at diets and are trying again, and some of us are at our goal weights and working hard to stay there. If you hang around with us here at Maintainers, you’ll see that maintenance is just another part of the weight loss road that we’re all traveling together. Reaching goal isn’t the end of the story at all; it’s just the beginning of Chapter Two – keeping the weight off for the rest of our lives. As we’ll see in the book, regardless of the part of the journey we’re on, we have many stories, questions, and concerns in common. I look forward to sharing ideas and meeting new friends as we read Thin For Life together.

As for the nuts and bolts: we’re going to be reading and discussing Thin For Life (2003 revised edition), by Anne M. Fletcher, over the next ten weeks. The book is divided into ten ‘Keys To Success’ and we’ll read and talk about one key (chapter) per week. We'll start a new thread for each key and make it a 'sticky' at the top of the forum for the week.

So who is Anne M. Fletcher, MS, RD? She’s a clinical nutritionist, former editor of the Tufts University Health & Nutrition Letter, and award-winning author. To find out more about Anne, check out her web site: http://www.annemfletcher.com/.

And why did Anne Fletcher write TFL? In the book’s Introduction, she says that her purpose was to prove that people CAN lose weight and keep it off permanently. By showing that permanent weight loss is possible, she hopes to inspire others to believe that they, too, can become thin for life. The media bombards us with the message that diets fail, so she set out to find people who have succeeded at weight loss – people who had lost at least 20 pounds and kept it off for at least three years. She calls these people ‘weight loss masters’ and her goal was to discover and write about the motivational strategies that these masters used both to lose the weight and to maintain their losses.

So there’s something in the book for all of us, whether we’re contemplators, losers, or maintainers. Pull up a chair, put your feet up, and start reading Key To Success #1: Believe That You Can Become Thin For Life. Our discussion begins here on Monday, January 10. Hope you join us!
