What do I eat for breakfast (and please don't say "eggs")

Breakfast is undoubtedly the hardest meal for me because (1) I'm not an early-morning eater and (2) I am not willing to make time to make breakfast in the morning.

Do you experienced people have ideas for me for breakfast? Right now I'm just starting Induction, so if you can also suggest things for my first two weeks, that would be extremely helpful.

Thanks in advance! :coffee:

StarPrincess 06-28-2004 01:09 PM

I'm not an egg person either. And I'm not a big breakfast person, so I break it up into 2 or 3 small things that I eat throughout the morning. I have things like string cheese, fully cooked frozen sausage (easy to nuke), cucumber slices, celery and cream cheese, slices of bell pepper, leftovers from the night before. No one said you have to eat breakfast food for breakfast. Have a salad if that's what you want. Just be sure to eat! It makes a big difference. Good luck! ;)

lady_adnerb 07-05-2004 08:46 PM

Sorry, I can't help. I like eggs and sausage for breakfast. Not sure what else you could substitute that with. Or skip the eggs and just go for the sausage.

DonnaD 10-03-2004 01:04 PM

Did anyone ever try the mock danish

take 2-4 oz of cream cheese w/splenda (cinnamon optional)
nuke til soft
beat in an egg
nuke for another minute or two

it's the only way I can tolerate eggs first thing in the morning.

Unfortunately, I like eggs over easy, but thats no fun without toast or hash browns to soak up the yolk.

Star, I stuck to the plan during induction and failed miserably. No change in my blood sugar or weight. I read the book. I didn't eat the frankenfoods. I am going to start again tomorrow but incorporate more veggies. I was eating hardly any because I could get those d*m ketostix to change color. When you first went on induction, did you stick to the 30 g of carbs? This is really getting to me. I went off induction, back to carbs, got a really bad stomach virus, but plan to start again tomorrow, because I was sticking to it. I am so frustrated that so many have success and I've tried several times without.
Sorry, venting.

samanthajosmom_12 10-04-2004 10:19 PM

i do like eggs and bacon for morning. but if you do not like eggs you can eat sting cheese ,sausage . i like sausage and i sometimes will take cream and heat up and put sausage in the heated cream and try to find a something to thicken it up that does not have alot of carbs and you can have a sausage gravy. corn starch has to many carbs as well as flour. i think there is thicken it out there that might be less carbs to thicken foods. i am not really sure though. check your grocery store for new items that are low carbs for breakfast. check health food stores. sue

Breakfast is also a problem for me

Hello All,
I'm at a lost as what to do about breakfast. :?: I take the train to work and eating before I leave the house is out of the question, I get train sick if I do eat something. So I'm open to suggestions :coffee:

I usually have either a soy shake (4 carbs) or ricotta cheese with some cinnamon and splenda or vanilla and splenda or string cheese, or atkins bar. Sometimes I just want something sweet in the morning!

LindaLee 12-14-2004 08:34 AM

Thanks you for the ideas. I had the ricotta cheese with almond extract and splenda last night but I added a teaspoon of almonds to it ...makes a nice dessert.
This morning is he** around here. Some misguided person brought in bagels and munchkins .....this is hard ;-) but I'll behave.
Have a great morning ...well whole day for that matter.

chocolatecatz 01-19-2005 03:52 PM

sometimes ill have eggs and turkey bacon...but usually illjust have an EAS shake which has anywhere from 2-5 carbs..i stick to the lower carb ones like french vanilla.

that's enuff to tied me over to lunch where i'll have spinach and chicken/ with cheese

LindaLee 01-20-2005 04:42 PM

Hello,
Have you tried the Slim Fast Low Carb drinks ? The chocolate is good and it has 2 carbs. I put it in the blender with ice cubes and eat it with a spoon. The Slim Fast bars aren't bad either. Some of the snacks have only 1 carb.
As for breakfast, I've discovered Crystal Light Sunrise (I think that's it's name) I drink that at my desk with either a meal bar or something I've grabed going out the door. I'd like to skip breakfast but everyone keeps telling me it's the most important meal of the day ...personally I think it's LUNCH ;-)

StarPrincess 01-21-2005 10:53 AM

Just a little word of warning on the supposedly low carb bars and sweets. Check the sugar alcohols! A lot of people's bodies process them like sugar (aka the blood sugar spikes and such). If you're eating them and stalling in your weight loss or gaining weight *gasp* that is the most likely culprit.

LindaLee 01-21-2005 04:49 PM

So far I've been lucky. Slim Fast bars seem to work for me. I have to be careful of the "toils" because too much makes my life MISERABLE!!!! The liquid I use as a treat on the weekend.

Turtle025 02-13-2005 02:20 PM

Just wanted to add that the Slim Fast low carb bars are really, really good and so easy to grab on your way out the door! I also like to have chicken salad and lettuce for breakfast, or maybe string cheese and pepperoni slices. Just because there are "traditional" breakfast foods doesn't mean you've GOT to have cerealg or eggs in the morning. Have any low carb meal that's easy to prepare and that you find enjoyable!

LindaLee 02-13-2005 02:45 PM

Good Morning ........opps Afternoon :o Sunday's throw me off sometimes.
I'm pretty much getting a handle on breakfast. Granted some morning I get really strange looks from my co-workers  but what the heck. I also discovered Crystal Light Sunrise. It doesn't quite taste like orange juice but with no carb, no fat and about 10 calories I can live with it. It also cuts the hunger in the morning. Tomorrow I'm going to try an Atkin's Chocolate Muffin Breakfast Bar ....I sure hope it tastes good. Not every thing does !!!!
Right now I have to figure out a way to get off the stand still I'm at. My scale hasn't moved at all in two weeks. But my husband said I've lost weight and for him to notice it must be so. I personally think the problem is the medicine I'm taking. One of the "warnings" says "May inhibit weight loss" and I'm thinking Oh great the doctor wants me to lose 20 pounds and then gives me this stuff!!!!! :?:
Have a great rest of the day everyone.

msmagee 04-28-2005 09:58 AM

breakfast is hard for me also. i'm getting tired of having eggs.

Ruthxxx 04-28-2005 10:05 AM

Welcome to Low carbing MsMagee. Why not have meat or cheese for breakfast? We have to think outside the box. I sometimes have soup or chili or stew from the previous day. Ham and cheese rollups?

jessiekins 05-26-2005 04:05 PM

i quite enjoy a few tbsp of sour cream and atkins pancake syrup for brekkie or snacks. it tastes like maple yogurt. it soooo goood!!

I eat Atkins Advantage bars every morning. Quick, easy, and nutritious. And the bars are allowed during Induction, as are the Morning Start bars.

Lafayette 03-08-2006 12:21 PM

I melted a little shredded cheese over canned white meat chicken chunks this morning... I am not a fan of eggs unless their poached and I am not a fan of kitchens or cooking either!

The string cheese sticks sound like a great idea. I can tuck those in my bag for breakfast on the run.

How about macadamia nuts and coffee with heavy cream? That's my plan for tomorrow (my day 2).

Born2run2 04-09-2006 12:37 AM

On days I can't face eggs I usually just have a piece of Ham and cheese, or maybe a shake. In fact I drink alot of LC shakes in the morning. I put sugar free syrup in it and maybe some raspberries, splenda, soy powder and whipping cream in it. (YUM). Judy

TravelinGal 06-01-2006 07:58 PM

I like the Apple Cinnamon breakfast bars by Atkins. they're crunchy like rice crispies and have great flavor! and on the Atkins website, it indicates they are approved for induction.

Idealperson 06-13-2006 10:58 AM

Today I had: One scrambled egg (I know you said no eggs, but bare with me) made in the microwave. I put on last night's leftover taco meat and salsa. I am still soooo full and it was sooo goood, give eggs another try and least once in awhile!

willmakeit 06-14-2006 11:31 PM

I have half a peanut butter (low carb) jelly (sugarfree) toat on low carb bread.
I have special K cereal (low carb life style) or shrdded wheat (0 sugar) in fat free soy milk. and a huge cup of coffee!

wendyann 06-28-2006 07:31 PM

Sometimes I like to take a slice of deli ham and put a little crem cheese in the middle of the slice and add a pickle spear (or have it on the side_, roll it up and eat it.

Sounds kinda gross, but I promise, it's good.

Idealperson 07-13-2006 10:06 AM

Once you are through with induction, you can have berries. So today I had Berries in a Cloud... just whipping cream with raspberries and blueberries. YUM!

vouge09 09-06-2006 03:24 PM

is coffee low carb? I havent had coffee in two days and im so addicted im so tired without my coffe lol.

Stinger 10-29-2006 05:19 PM

I've heard that melons and berries are not too high in carbs. I could eat that really easy for breakfast

kateful 11-01-2006 10:13 PM

When I did low carb years ago, I often had deli canadian bacon or turkey slices slatered with a laughing cow cheese and rolled up. It's very good and very transportable.

Cook up some chicken tenders in advance. You can nuke and take on the run with some cheese.

Peanut butter celery (maybe not on induction)

My low carb breakfast favorites

This is my favorite (if you can afford 8 net carbs) - pour into a blender (Or measure it all up night before into blender, poke blend jar in fridge and whiz it in AM to speed it up) 1 1/2 Cups 2% Carb countdown milk, 2 1/2 tsp instant coffee (I prefer Folgers Rich), 2 Tbs Vanilla Whey protein powder (sugar free of course), 1/4 tsp each vanilla and almond extracts, 2 tbs DaVinci chocolate flavored syrup (sugar free - kind you add to coffees - not the kind you pour over desserts), and 1 Tbs Splenda Measure. It takes a large glass to hold it, I like it over ice. I know it's a lot of carbs for some - but it's a glorious yummy 8 net carbs. REcipe is from Dana Carpender called Irish Cream Coffee Latte Smoothie.

I also eat the low carb hot cereals available online - hazelnut is my favorite. They make you quite full with so much fiber in them - add a side of protein and it's a big breakfast. I also top them with heavy cream, splenda, and big pat of butter. Throw pecans or walnuts into cereal if you are allowed them. Add peanut butter to the milk chocolate flavor if you are allowed PB.

Also, any leftovers are fair game - grab a low carb tortilla wrap and load it up with whatever is lurking in fridge - Roast beef and horseradish sauce is my current favorite - add a slice of tomato, some tasty cheese - oh yeah baby.

Those EAS Carbcontrol shakes - wonderful. A little pricey, but tasty and fast. I usually require a snack later though - they don't keep me full. The South Beach Meal bars - usually 3 net carbs each (if sugar alcohol isn't your nemesis) are also great - I stick to meal bars that use those soy protein nuggets (look like rice crispies) - they just taste better.

Those danish eggs - awesome. Might just do that today.

I get fed up with eggs too. When I do eat them, I like a loaded up omelet or over easy with steak ums to mop up the yolk.

Sometimes, in a rush, just a chunked up hunk of summer sausage, cheese chunks, and some low carb veggies (raw broccoli or celery etc) plus coffee. Poke it all in a baggie and you have a car meal.

Hope this helps.

Fruit smoothy

Hi

I make myself delicious and nutritious breakfast from my great green powder (incl.complex carbs, minerals, vitamins...) fruit, rice milk, wholegrain cereal and flax seed meal.
It gives me all the goodies my body needs to stay healthy and lose weight:)

Green is Good!:p

Uli

Born2run2 11-20-2006 12:15 AM

1/3 cup of tvp with cream and a little splenda. Or flax meal. I also like a morning shake. Judy H:cool: :dizzy: ;)

CarolynSG1 12-07-2006 05:29 AM

I bought Whey Protein Powder and i have a shake in the morning. I am supposed to mix it with water, which does not taste very nice. So i mix it with half skim milk and half water, will this stall my weight loss???

Mylifeinthemovie 05-20-2007 09:54 PM

I don't like eggs and breakfast is hard. I like to cook up some sausage patties and cover them in american or cheddar cheese. It's a sausage biscuit with no biscuit. :)

CarolynFL 05-20-2007 11:37 PM

OK, this isn't my everyday breakfast, but it is my favorite.

Ingredients:
3 strips of bacon
1 slice of ham
2 rounds of hard salami
1 or 2 slices of American Cheese
2 Eggs

How to:
In a large frying pan, lay out all the meats and heat till slightly brown. Leave the longish slice of ham on the bottom, put one slice of cheese on top of it, then the salami over that, then another slice of cheese, then the bacon. Put all that off to the side, then throw your eggs in, fry em up to taste, then add them to the top of the concoction. I always leave the eggs a little runny so I have a "sauce" of sorts. Delicious!! I promise.

batesxx 04-14-2012 06:16 PM

Great Ideas! Thank you!

Tohisha77 04-14-2012 06:27 PM

sometimes i hate eggs too.ha ha

lets see.......instant grits, instant oatmeal, turkey bacon or some kind of protein drink.i think someone stated SLIM FAST but make sure its the one with LESS SUGAR.
maybe u can try a protein bar with a glass of skim milk or soy milk.

kimminy 04-14-2012 07:13 PM

1/3 a cup oatmeal with lotsa cinnamon, apple, flaxseed, dash of tumeric, and sunflower or pumpkin seeds.

OR

Cereal (rice krispies currently)

OR

Bacon and eggs - but this is a once a month or less kinda thing.

Kierra 04-28-2012 10:31 AM

I just did the mock danish this morning. It was amazing. Usually I just do a protein shake.

ChicoryCat 05-01-2012 09:38 PM

Piece of meat (chicken tender, chicken sausage, other sausage) sauteed in a pan, then when it is nearly done, heat up about a quarter cup of beans (kidney, black eyed peas, black beans) in the same pan. Sprinkle on some cheese, salsa and chopped parsley. South Beach includes beans, and it provides some of the starchy taste I associate with breakfast. I just open a can of beans, measure out what I want, rinse.

Kierra 05-06-2012 01:17 PM

I just tried this for breakfast and loved it. http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/flax_pancake.html

i put a little cream cheese and splenda on top since I did not have low carb syrup and it was yummy. Strawberries might be good or some other low carb berry but I did not have any. It tastes wierd without a topping though.
