I haven't been around for awhile, because I've been really, really bad. I need some encouragement, or maybe just an old fashioned kick in the pants.
I won't bore you with all the details/excuses, but I've messed up big time and managed to undo about 6 months of hard work in a short period of time.
Needless to say, I feel like CRAP and I feel all fat again and my self esteem is plummetting. (sp?)
There's also another troubling thing happening to me I wanted to ask you guys about. I've started having these "spells" where I feel all weak and shaky, sometimes anxious, sweaty. This morning I woke up and was dizzy and shaky and felt like throwing up. After I eat some sugar I feel better. I'm thinking I've really screwed my body up by not following the low carb life like I should. Do y'all think that's what it is? I was looking up some stuff on the internet, and it sounds an awful lot like hypo-glycemia, but I don't understand how my sugar can be low when I'm eating it all the time these days. Is this dangerous? Should I go to the doctor or do you think if I get back on Atkin's that would fix it? These episodes are very scary to me.
I want to add that I'm moving out of state this weekend, and I'm starting a new job Monday, so this will be a difficult time to try to start induction, (I have a feeling this is going to be a rough one, as I'm very addicted to carbs these days,) so I don't know if I should start now or wait a couple of days until things calm down a bit.
Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Also any stories from people who have messed up like I have and gone on to kick butt on this diet would be so encouraging right now.
Hi Trisha,
I really feel you should go to the doctor. When something like that happens, your body is telling you something is wrong. I don't think you should wait either.
I've never fell off the wagon, I'm still trying to get on the wagon. I've only gain weight while pregnant. First two times, I lost the weight real easy. But I was much younger. My baby is now almost 6, so I guess I haven't much of an excuse anymore.
You need to feel better about yourself now. Since your starting a new job, change your hairstyle, haircut, highlight it or change your makeup, buy a few new clothes. Your feel better and hopefully your feel like loosing weight again.
Most of all go to the Doctor.
Maybe we can loose like 5 lbs. for our first goal together??
Trisha, you are feeling that way because youir blood sugar IS low. I know, you have been taking in tons of sugar (carbs) but that causes your body to crank out a whole mess of insulin to deal with the sugar. Unfortunately it cranks out more than needed and your blood sugar falls because of the extra insulin. And you do start to feel better as soon as you eat some sugar which uses up the extra insulin and also causes your body to make more!
As far as being off program for a while, we have all been there and done that. Read some of the older posts and our true confessions. We are all very human in here and will help you get back on track.
I would check with your doctor on this, however. I am no expert but it does sound like an insulin problem to me.
Oh Trisha, it sounds like you don't need a kick in the pants, but maybe a cyber hug instead! I've been there, done that, bought the t-shirt! I know exactly how you feel and I bet a lot of people on this board do too.
I was on CAD and doing so well and so sure that this was it for the me for the rest of my life. Then I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and I just hit the skids in a big way, feeling sorry for myself, gaining every single pound back, and then some. I finally decided to try again, because my weight was making the joint pain worse, but I was so scared, unsure and felt like a complete failure. I certainly didn't want anyone to know I was trying again after screwing up so many times. So after a couple of false starts, I am back on CAD and feeling much better. For me, it is a huge relief to be back on program and in control of one aspect of my life, when so many other parts are out of my control.
It sounds to me like your life is very, very stressful right now. Maybe until you get settled you could work on just a few things at a time, instead of tackling the whole enchilada (so to speak)? Maybe you could concentrate on drinking more water and moving more, or whatever you choose, so you can feel good about something. But don't expect perfection. For me, that feeling of pride in myself helps me move on to more.
As for the spells, I have had those too. They always go away once I am back on program. I've never seen a doctor about them, probably because I hate doctors, but if they are bad, maybe you should see one.
Try not to be too hard on yourself. You'll get back OP and things will look up for you, really!
Check back in often and let the chickies help.
Chickadee
Ruth and I were posting at the same time - see I told the the chicks would help!
Please don't ever think that you're "so bad"! We fall weak and cave into that carb monster cause we're human.
I agree that what you are describing are symptoms of hypoglycemia. I encourage you to see a doctor. I remember when LindaBC wrote of her bouts with it and it sure sounds similar. If you chose not to go to the doctor yet, perhaps journaling your food choices for the next week or so and how you're feeling would be beneficial. I am not good at offering the mechanics of the insulin and body reactions, but we have many here that can explain it in a way that's understandable.
No kick in the pants hon, just warm welcomes back and hugs!
As a medical person I agree with the hypoglycemia. is it happening when you get up in the morning??? ad when you have had a huge serving of really hi carb foods???? one thing i may suggest is to use the low glycemic index of foods which are foods that are high in fiber and havve a hgh nutritional value. they will trigger less of a insulin swing and then after you get back On tract you can switch to atkins. you need to regulate your body fiorst.
also do go to the doctors. i know that moving and all there is not much chance to go but if your are swinging that mch then you may be going really high on your sugar levels in the blood. and that could cause damage. so please see a doc, but immediatly cut out all the concentrated sweets, and the white flour, stick with a modified diet immediatly!!! your health depends on it!!!
Thanks you guys! You're the greatest! I appreciate all of the advice and encouragement, and I'm going to start doing better right away! No hard core induction for me just yet...I think I'll wait a few days on that since I have so much going on right now, but I'm going to start implementing some positive changes immediately, like drinking lots of water, and I'm going to cut back on all this sugar and caffeine I've been taking in. Maybe that will make the transition to induction easier once I do start.
One thing I'm really excited about is the new neighborhood I'm moving to is great for walking. I can't wait to get started!
I'm not going to have the chance to go to the doctor for a few days, but I promise I will if I don't start feeling better soon, but I have a feeling I will once I get back on track!
I'll be talking to y'all soon, and have a great weekend!
