I'm calling it Labourless Day. It's the last long weekend of the summer and I intend to suck the juice out of it.

So far I've had a great weekend! In Ottawa on Saturday for Dim Sum, skipped Church yesterday and shopped for ME, have done lots of preggie dog loving and intend to just do a bit of sewing this morning and then go to an art show this afternoon. Tomorrow is "New Year's Day" for me. Funny how September seems like the start of a new year.

Have a great Labourless Day, chickies.

It's quiet in the house, DH just got up and is starting his breakfast, and MIL is still in bed.

we had a nice bbq yesterday with my DM and her lovely groom( for you,L) Ate like piggies, clams, clam chowder, hamburgers and hotdogs, tomatoes, potato salad, blueberry pie. YUM> It was a little cool and overcast, but not bad. Today we will do some yardwork, and finish up laundry and light cleaning.

Everything was pretty topsy-turvey from MIL moving in, but we are getting our routines down now. I am comparing this to adopting an 8 year old. They both have opinions and food preferences and are a little bossy. But they need supervision with stoves, sharp knives, and stairs. So I've learned what kind of cereal, bread, milk(2%, not the 1% I bought,) crackers, etc. she likes, and arranged a system for laundry(I will do it for everyone as my washer can overflow, and the basement stairs are steep.) She is eating better here than at home, and seems very happy to have access to a good library. 3 MD appts last week, and one test, and one MDappt this week. Chemo starts whenever I can get the surgeon scheduled to put in the port.

Everthing else is OK, I'm trying to eat OK, but not doing that well. Anybody find out anything about the new Weight Watchers program...?

Hi to each of you- I'm going to make posting and thinking about my eating more of a priority this week, as a way of taking care of ME! I'm waiting for my new oven, maybe Thursday.

hi to all,
dottie

I went to the pool for an hour this morning. There was virtually zero traffic on the roads. I wouldn't want to be driving this afternoon though, when all the holidayers return at the same time. I drove 15 minutes beyond city limites to find some cheaper gas. (78.9 cents per liter) At least 5 cents a litre cheaper than in town.
I'm taking it easy today too, Ruth. I should be out in the garden tackling some monster weeds but I'm tuckered out from the pool. I think my body is still adjusting to low calorie instead of low carb and I'm tired all the time....and FAMISHED.
Can somebody tell me, how do you insert an accent mark for a foreign word or name? I can do it with Word Perfect but can't figure out how to do it on MIE.

You mean like this?
ANSI Character Codes
Hold down the Alt key and type these digits on the Number Pad to get the corresponding character:

Thanks, Ruth, but I couldn't get it to work. What am I doing wrong. I'm trying to type the name, Ciara, with the accute accent over the i. When I tried your method, I just get a boing, boing sound but nothing happens. Is there some secret method for getting the character to actually appear?

Let me try ....Cíara. Hmmm. It doesn't show until I take my finger OFF the ALT key. So it's Hold down ALT, type 0237, release ALT. I hope it works for you.

LOL! Yeah, right, Ruth.

I've been MIA this week, huh? So sorry - just busy and preoccupied I guess.

I'm going to print out those instructions and file them away for when I need to type something fancy, Ruth! Hey, when are the girls due?

*wave* to Dottie, Linda, L, and whoever else. (where the heck is MamaJ? I miss her!)

Somehow I have lost a couple lbs. Guess its from being too busy to be bored and eat or maybe it has just been too darn hot here to get excited about food. I'm not going to think about it too much figuring it out and that might jinx it.

Gotta scoot - live is busy but boring these days. How can that be?

Kel

Well it is Thursday and I have the first WHOLE day tomyself in 13 weeks! The kids started school yesterday and between meetings in the morning and library in the afternoon it was a full day at school for me.

Older boy is in until 4 pm now and little man is going to do the afterschool program for the extra hour on hursdays giving me until 4 to myself.

I am going to work out, do a little phone calling and then run som errands I have neglected like looking for a rug for my dinning room.

The rain last night was unbelievable! and it looks wet for the next few days....

have a good day chickies!

Morning,
Friday already. I am up and exercised as I have an appointment to get my hair straigtened this morning. it is a LONG process but well worth the effort of not using the iron and blowdryer...

Kids are loving school and i loved my free day yesterday although the weather has been giving me a hard time with headaches...

to all the chicks have a great friday!

Hey, L144S, it finally stopped raining here and I think the sun will come out - clear sunrise anyhow. A good day for hair straightening! It rained so hard yesterday that we had road washouts and several meetings were cancelled including my rehearsal! The Girls spent most of yesterday curled up on the couch, hoping I'd light the woodstove. I did relent and turn the furnace on.

Kel, you definitely are doing something right. What's the secret? My weight is still the same. I'm sticking to South Beach Phase II, blood glucose levels are perfect and it'll eventually move again. I sure as heck am resistant to losing!

This morning, Hershey and I are off to a rehearsal of the schtick we do at the Mill on Sunday. She will be the "medium" who brings a schoolteacher, Miss Allyn, back to life to tell us about the old days in Delta. Luckily the spirit is called Anna and so is the actress so "Go get Anna" will work. Hershey's smarts continue to astonish me.

Sarah, my garden flunky, has a real job now so I need to go out and do a realistic assessment of what can and cannot be done to put my garden to bed. I am considering grassing in some of my huge veggie garden to make life a bit easier. One can BUY veggies around here very easily as my dear sister pointed out. A smaller plot would be more manageable. Hurting my knee this year was a reality check.

The Girls are woofing for after breakfast potty so I'm outta here. Lucy is due on the 24th but will be going to the kennel at Morna's for her "lying in" on Monday the 13th. It will be so strange to be a one dog house and even stranger when Hersh goes. I have another dog, "Jazz", who may be coming for a trial visit and I will be going to Morna's daily so won't go into complete dog withdrawal.

Will pop in later.

I am not getting much computer time now as we've put the computer into the TV room and MIL is always there. Trying to fit in a bit now while she naps.

The guys are bringing my new stove this afternoon...sure will be nice to have an oven that works! I've been stirfrying chicken breasts for our lunches this week.

Weather report is great for the next few days...and I am taking off Sun with DS to do some serious outlet shopping for ourselves. I need to get away from the homefront for a while and think about ME> All we do is think about MIL medical problems, appts, lab tests, exams etc. A day of shopping will help, I know. DH is paying!

that's it. food is fair but heavy on the carbs. got to get that new oven heated up and rustle up some FOOD!

have a good one,
dottie

Hi, I'm not a very faithful poster these days. Sorry about that. I've been busy getting ready for our daughter's visit with her hubby and their baby (our darling wee Sarah)from Scotland, PLUS her hubby's brother, his wife and THEIR baby from Ireland. As we only have one guest bedroom, we are putting the in-laws in there and turning our seldom used front living room into a bedroom for Lisa and family. Luckily I have a neighbour who has lots of grandbabies and she's loaning us two cribs. My older daughter has an inflatable queen size mattress and another friend is loaning them the use of her min-van which will hold 8 including the babies and luggage. Otherwise, I don't know how we'd get them home from the airport.
Today I have the window washing guy here, my area rug and vertical blinds are out for cleaning and I've been plodding along trying to get the garden in shape when the weather cooperates. As long as it stays cool, I'm going to try to get some baking done and frozen ahead and perhaps a pan of lasagna and another casserole dish, just to make my life a little easier when they're here.
I'm still struggling with the Diabetes Association diet which seems very high in carbs and makes me hungry ALL THE TIME! I find I have to eat every two hours or my blood glucose crashes and I get the clammy shakes. I honestly don't see how they can promote a diet like that but it's been working for my sis who has now lost about 50 lb on it without any problems. I guess it's just me.
