  • Good morning,
What a nice day it is today. I have a lot of yard work to do, so I'm going to run out there and get to it. Right after this
Aleka, it's the musles in my neck that the tongue is part of. It's from doing the first face exercises where you stick your tongue out. Nothing serious, just using some muscles that I'm not use to. I guess I am not much of a talker Seems everything is getting stronger everyday though.
DH took the car to the shop this morning. It's about four miles from here and he has to walk home. There is no power steering, so I couldn't drive it. He says it takes some real muscle to get the wheel to turn and he's one of the strongest men I know (in real life that is )
The basement flooded again, so I have fans blowing on it now. That clumping kitty litter isn't like the clay kind, it just dissolves into some kind of liquid. With all the rain and flooding down there, it's now pretty much washed down the drain anyway. Oops.
I bet the plan in the second book is different than the first in some ways, but I don't have the first book to check. From what I've read on the message board over there, the 1st book says you can eat 1 tbs of fat at a meal and the second one says 1 tsp.
Well, better run. Have a great day, Nikki
  • Hi Everyone!!
Aleka I sure am enjoying my vacation. Today my son and I went downtown
bright and early to attend a book signing by President Clinton. We left at
7:30 am but by the time we arrived at 8:20 or so there were already more
than 3000 people ahead of us. We waited until 11:30 am but by then the
police were coming around with mega phones telling the masses that unless
you had rec'd a wrist band you would not be able to get your book signed....
    so, we left.

Nikki, I know just how you feel about basement flooding I wish I
had a buck for everytime we have had that happen.
You are doing so great with your eating As for me..

Our weather was on the cool side today. I have to admit it, I love it
I am counting the days to labour day. (Four weeks from Monday ) I think
Tanya is ready to kill me each Monday when I come in with the count. She is
a summer person and I love my autumn weather.........

    Talk to you later ladies.
    Anne.
  • Just a quick note-
When I was out picking tomatoes this afternoon, I could tell the sun was casting the shadows differently than even last week. It looked like fall or late summer sun to me. I thought about you, Anne and how you love autumn. I can't say I'm too thrilled with it myself. I hate to see the end of summer and the end of my gardens. Now that we get those aweful lady beetles in the fall I really hate to see it come. Well, I still like the changing seasons, it makes you appreciate all the differences in the weather. Although, I would like to move to Florida with Aleka for the perpetual summer, even if it does get a little cold once in awhile down there. Aleka, how about adopting a very old daughter? I promise I won't eat much Nikki
  • Speaking of long shadows nikki, I've heard crickets during the day, that's another sign of fall. I've also noticed it getting dark around 8:30 pm. Sure I'll adopt you. You'll have to keep your room cleaned though.

ANNE, glad that you're enjoying your vacation. Let me know how Bill Clinton's book is. Fall is my favorite time of year too. It feels so refreshing after a hot summer. But, this summer has been more like fall so far with only a few hot days scattered here and there.

As of this afternoon we have a FOR SALE sign in front of our house. It's always been in the back of my mind, and now it's a reality and it was kind of a shock.

    Aleka
  • Good Morning Everyone:
Aleka, I bet it's a mixture of feelings you are experiencing now with the
"for sale" sign on your home. Its understandable considering the years and
    the memories.....
Our summer in Toronto has been very similar. There has only been a few
real hot days. Maybe it means I'll be making our Thanksgiving Turkey in
October in 90 degree heat. Its happened!

Nikki I have noticed in just the last week its dark at the time I usually leave
to go to work. At the end of July it was day light out. Today is another
cool day. I am going to make the best of it and make sure I go out this
afternoon. I can't believe I'll be back at work next week. Oh well, I will
be off for a week following labour day weekend. Its not too far away.

Have either of you seen this show on discovery channel about the haunted
house in Ill.? It scared the heck out of all of us. It was a renovated funeral
    parlour. (true story)

    Talk to you later.
    Anne.
  • Good morning,
It's another beautiful day today. I can't believe it's really Aug in Iowa. We never have this kind of weather. Makes me wonder what the winter will be like. I Think we will have to stock up on fire wood early this year. I'm afraid it will be very cold with lots of snow. Anne, you could be right, it might be the opposite and warmer than usual.
We got the car back yesterday. Had a tuneup, timing belt changed, serpintine belt changed, water pump replaced. It was the first time we've ever gone to this mechanic and I really like him. In a sea of unreputable characters, he seems like an honest, meticulous man. Even DH liked him and that's hard to accomplish. I'm hoping that will take care of that car, except for getting new tires on it.
I went out this morning to go to the car wash and went to a garage sale up the road at a neighbors place. I've never meet them before and still didn't this morning, since their kids were doing the garage sale. I bought a real nice 1 1/2 gallon aquarium for another beta for $1. DH will be thrilled (not ) I already have 5 aquariums now.
Aleka, you reminded me of when we sold a house once. When the sign went up in the yard, I didn't want to sell the house anymore, so I kept hiding it, or knocking it over with the lawn mower. Every time the realitor would show the house, she would put it back up though. Kind of a sad feeling, I know. It's hard to let go.
Anne, that must have been a real let down, standing in line all that time and not getting to get a signature. I confess, I like Bill. I know he's not a very good husband, and if he were mine, I don't think I would have been as gracious as Hilary, but I liked him as a president. I think the country was much better off with him. I could get myself into all kinds of trouble talking about politics, so I won't. I've seen more arguments on the computer about that. Hope you let us know how you like the book.
I'm going to try to make some homemade tomato soup today. Hope it turns out. I hate to put that much effort into something and then it turns out icky.
    Later, Nikki
  • Anne, I forgot, I didn't see that show on Discovery. Darn, I like shows like that too. Wonder where it was in Ill? Nikki
  • Good afternoon,

It only in the 60's here today. There is a town north of where we live that had a temp. of 39 deg. this morning. BRRRRR! This does not seem like August.

Since we had a lull in activity this morning we decided to sneak up to the grocery store and get some groceries in.

I do have mixed feelings about our house being officially up for sale. DH wants this move more than I do. I'm just afraid that if I don't move now I will be sorry come winter.

ANNE, no, I didn't see that show on the Discovery Ch. That would've been a good story to air around Halloween. I agree with nikki about Bill Clinton. He was a very good president. Hope you got outside this afternoon. It really is nice even though it's chilly.

nikki, I got a big chuckle out of you knocking down and hiding your for sale sign. I can just picture you doing it too. HMMMMM, it gives me an idea. Glad that you got the car fixed. It is nice when you find an honest person to fix your car. You're more apt to use them again. When DH & I were in FL last April to visit my IL's, he brought his GMC truck to a Chevy/GMC dealership to have it's whatever mile checkup. While he was there they tried to convince him that he needed new brakes because they were all rusty. Just before we left NH he had brake work done on his truck at the dealership where he bought the truck from, so he knew they were fine. Speaking of getting in trouble talking politics. DH has a buddy that calls occasionally. He called one night, but DH was unable to talk to him, so he was talking to me for a while. Somehow we got around to politics and it got rather heated. I asked him a question and he had no answer so he said he had to go and hung up. DH got a big chuckle out of it when I told him.
How did your tomato soup turn out?

Gotta go clean out some cabinets. Tomorrow the next town to us is having hazardous waste day so have to clean out all the cleaning stuff we've accumulated.

    Enjoy your afternoon.
    Aleka
  • Good morning,
I wonder if the Discovery Channel shows different programs in Canada than the US? Anne, I looked into my guide and the night that program that you watched was on, it wasn't listed here. Do you remember the name of it? I am so sick of Monster Garage and those kinds of shows. Can't stand that father on the show. DH of course loves it, but he likes Jerry Springer too.
The weather is so beautiful this morning, I really can't believe it's so nice.
The tomato soup turned out really good. I froze a lot of it in 1 cup containers for my lunch. Need to go out and pick some more veggies today and see what I can make. I have so many cherry tomatoes, I need to do something with them.
I give up on doing the 8 min moves in the morning. The exercises are really boring and difficult to do, at least the ones on the website. I might try the ones in the book next week. They look easier. I've done a whole weeks worth of Body Flex and I sure can tell the difference with that. I'm also doing some cardio every day, walking on the treadmill or riding the exercise bike. I was going to walk in the field yesterday, but they sprayed it with herbicide, so I just got on the exercise bike instead.
    Have a great weekend, Nikki
  • Good morning,

Someone came to look at DH's machines in our machine shop. The guy made an offer and DH took it. So, he'll be coming to cart them away sometime next week.

It's a very nice day here today. I've got the windows open while I'm working. I'm weeding out more stuff in my closet trying to get it to be a little more presentable before the RE agent starts showing the house.

nikki, glad that your tomato soup turned out good. I'm going to make vegeterian chili in the slow cooker right after we have lunch, it takes about 4 hrs. to cook. Then it hit me that I could be doing all my cooking in the slow cooker while we're busy packing and stuff instead of relying of frozen dinners which IMHO aren't all that great for you.

ANNE, I read nikki's post about that show you watched on Discovery Channel. Maybe they do show different shows in Canada than here. It might have already been shown here or possibly it will be on the schedule in the future. I'm going to start looking for it. What was the name of the show? Sometimes on the Travel Channel they have shows like that.

My break is over. Have to go back to work.

    Have a good weekend.
    Aleka
  • ANNE, nikki, I sending you both a PM

    Aleka
  • Hi,
Since it's Sunday I'll start another thread. See ya tyere!! Aleka
