New to Atkins

  • I have basically done sugar busters for several years but have decided to switch over to Atkins. I started induction Tuesday. I have not seen any weight loss yet. I know I am probably being impatient, but you hear about such rapid weight loss. I have about 25 lbs I would like to lose. I messed up and bought the Atkins for Life book, so I have been basically following the induction guidelines off the internet.
For the most part, this is what I have been eating
b: 2 eggs scrambled with either 2 or 3 pieces bacon, sometimes with cheese, green peppers and mushrooms added
l: leftover over homemade chili on top of romaine with tomatoes
d: baked chicken with mozzarella, zuchinni, squash, red/green peppers, mushrooms or sauteed spinach
snack: either cheese cubes (little ones) or celery with alouette veggie dip

am drinking a ton of water!

    how does this look??
  • this looks great, tex. Are there beans in the chili? You need to count the carbs. It can take more than a week to see some loss, so hold on. You could be over 20 grams a day in veggies if the portions are big. Induction traditionally is one large salad and one cooked vegetable(1/2 c.) per day. But it looks like a very healthy menu! And including veggies will help with any possible constipation which sometimes happens after a couple weeks.

So, count the carbs, aim for 20 g. per day, drink water, stick to whole foods(as you've done) and enjoy! You'll love this plan. Some people use www.fitday.com to enter and count foods. It is especially useful in Induction, those small amounts of carbs really add up!

Welcome, and stop over at the Low Carb Daily and say hi!

  • Thanks. I love fitday! No beans in the chili. I put in yesterday's menu (not the chili day) and it looked like I had too much cheese.
  • too much cheese? Is there such a thing? wink wink
  • Well, I guess that's a good question. I noticed that the veggies and the cheese had the same # of carbs. So, I go for the cheese and not the veggies???
  • nah, I just love cheese!

If you're hungry, the cheese might be more satisfying because of the fat content. But if you are very high in calories, the veggies might be better.

For me, the point of Atkins is that you don't feel so hungry and you can eat wonderful food like cheese!
  • Cheese have been know to stall people though so if the cheese is an option to cut then I would try to cut some of it. > If I am right they say only about 2-3 oz of cheese in induction. But I also may bee sing a lot of sodium in your intake. Not that it is something to stay away but it may be causing a bit of fluid retention causing the water weight to hold on.

    Just a suggestion.

    Welcome to the nest,.
  • Sodium? besides the bacon, what else?
  • the cheese tends to have sodium in it.
and the celery too. but maybe not as much. if you are not drinking enough water that also is a big staller if you are dehydrated. you must take about 1/2 oz per lb of body weight.
