LC Chat - May 8 to 14
It's the Weekend and it's also Mother's Day so be nice to yourself this weekend!
I'm off to work in the Greenhouse and it will be a zoo! People with big orders will be picking them up today to get their 20% discount and little kids (and men) will be wandering around trying to decide what to get for Mum! Everything will be lush and gorgeous! I love it! Tomorrow we have a Parish Service at out Church. Timing is perfect as our thousands of bulbs will be in bloom. I hope the weather holds. What's happening with you chickies? |
I am running to the greenhouse for an azalea for mom, then grocery shopping and a big LC cookfest! Made the Atkins Blueberry muffins this week, they were totally acceptable; I froze them for weekday breakfasts. You just have to keep to one per day...
I'll stop back later- dottie |
Morning Ruth! Morning Dottie!
Happy Mother's Day to all of my favorite women!!! I just got off the treadmill. I think I am going to die. At the very least, I smell bad! I have been wearing a heart monitor while on the blasted thing and have developed a love/hate relationship with it. Food has been going ok, although I am finding that I am grazing too much. My big downfall. Dh took the little guy down to the shore. The big kid is watching hours of cartoons. After I hit the showers and do a bit of fly lady around here it is off to get mom a gift certificate for a facial and then have the boys pick out some plants for her. She wants a fried chicken dinner tomorrow...Jiff will do desert cause she does it so well. Baseball game for the big kid tonight. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Celebrate you and your chickie friends! love, peach |
Happy Saturday to all my chickie friends............ haven't made it in here for a couple of days - work is REALLY interfering with my personal life! :dizzy: I hope everyone is enjoying the lovely sunny weather today.......
Kel, I hope the kids are better by now. It's time to take some more time for Kel to relax and enjoy herself - or at least to recharge her batteries! Ruth - BARN cleaning? how did it go? did you find any forgotten treasures? anything suitable for the Antiques Road Show? LindaBC - I absolutely agree with you about the reality check: they're awful! I went for a haircut and touchup today: caught a surprise glimpse of myself in the mirror and didn't know who that fat lady was?!?!?! :o Then someone asked if I wanted to join on a bike ride - I'd probably flatten the darn tires! <big sigh> : how to feel REALLY bad about yourself in one quick second! Dottie, thanks for the info about the LC store. DH also found one. I know that you are in Nassau, and this is in Suffolk, on the south side of Jericho Tpke (heading east) between Trader Joe's (the Commack store - at corner of Larkfield) and Commack Road........ ok - that's a couple of mile stretch, but he couldn't remember the exact address! (oh yeah, he also couldn't remember the name of it!!!!!) They're "relatively" inexpensive and have lots of good stuff. Peachie, good to see you dropping by ... nice to know that you are enjoying the treadmill  Well, I hope all you wonderful ladies have a wonderful Mother's Day... however you celebrate it, whether you've got children of your own or not....... I think it really ought to be WOMAN's Day............ so, here's to ALL of you..........xoxoxox |
Yesterday was a strange day for me as far as eating went. After a breakfast of bacon and eggs I didn't get hungry until about 3 pm at which time I had a dish of l.c. ice cream and a 1/2 cup of mixed nuts. Then I decided I should eat some "real" food so I cooked up a couple of frozen burger patties with some cheese topping and 3 sliced mushrooms. Naturally, by the time Peter wanted his dinner, I had no interest in food whatsoever. My mid-afternoon eating held me until 11 pm at which time I had (but shouldn't have had) a 1 inch piece of leftover dinner sausage and a slice of havarti cheese. Definitely not enough veggies in my day. I will try to do better today.
So far I've had 3 breakfast sausages and 3 of those pork rind pancakes. Weather is on and off rain and sun today so I guess I will be sewing on grandbaby's christening gown instead of gardening. |
Happy mother's day one and all. I got the same gift as last year and didn't use it, bad me! It is for a local spa, not the one I like but I will figure out how to use them both.
Cool this morning, out to run a few errands and a little family time. Survivor tonight, I can't wait! off to the shower, have a great day! -L |
Happy Mom's day everyone -
Please do like Sono suggests and try to take some time (even if all you can spare is a few minutes!) for yourselves. Banish all the negative from your thoughts and just celebrate all that you are! Too broke to do much of anything this weekend - we will go visit my mom this afternoon for a bit. Then back home to work on laundry (something never change). Kel |
Hi Ladies:
I'm new to this board. First registered in '01 and this is my first post since! I'm from Long Island, too. Been working with a nutritionist on a lowish carb program since last July and fell off the wagon for the last three months. Put about 10 lbs of the 16#'s I lost back on. Need to get off the real and fake sugar. Get Back on my positive WOE. Feeling badly and no energy. The good thing I did was join Curves for a little shake up of my work out. So I do get my butt out of bed in the am before work and sweat with the ladies! Hope you don't mind a newcomer on your board but I need the support without having to go to WW or OA(been there, done them). A friend just brought over a huge layer cake for Mother's Day. It's just my husband and me here for dinner. AAAAAHHHH! Peace to all, Basha |
Welcome Basha. Now, you leave that layer cake alone. (send it to me) Actually, I've had a sheet cake in the house for the past few days. Just a cake mix that I frosted and I've been giving it to Peter for his evening dessert. So far it hasn't tempted me. Today my grandsons were here for Mother's Day and I sent the cake home with the younger one. I think Peter has had his fill of it. He's one of those irritating people who can have just one piece of something and then not care if he has it again. In fact, he'd prefer a different dessert every night in the week....as IF!
Daughter brought a couple of deli roti chickens and the makings for a Caesar salad. I had made homemade rolls so they all enjoyed a nice lunch without too much work for me. I just had some chicken and a bit of salad. |
Monday
Stayed up too late(11pm) to watch Survivor, so I'm tired this morning. Running around now to get ready to leave. this afternoon I will leave work early to go to the dentist- hate that!
Did't do too bad yesterday, despite the coconut cake I made for DM birthday Ate 1/2 a small roll and a small piece of cake. It was planned, and I felt OK that I didn't go overboard and I didn't have crackers or potatoes. I got on the scale Sat and am still just down 1 lb. but I am optomistic about this week. That's it for now. ttyl, dottie b-Atkins muffin s-cottage cheese l-cauliflower/swiss soup s-leftover pork chop d-? maybe london broil and broccoli |
Good Morning Ladies and Happy Canadian Mothers Day !!!
The weekend was so nice, wish they weren't over so dang fast. Nothing much is new here, sosdd. Got some plants of Saturday and planted them with dd yesterday, it was sweet, she's such a good kid. She's looking more and more like shirley temple with her curly hair. Well kiddo's its good to see you all and that your all doing well. Hugs ! |
Hi Ladies:
Made it through Mother's Day and had a peaceful one. Feel optimistic, also, about the week ahead. Support is wonderful and I am glad I found this site. Today I will keep away from the sugar, white flour and diet coke! Love this Spring weather and the sunshine. Hope you all have a sun shiney day. Basha |
Welcome Basha! We have a dreary and rainy day but I know there's lots of sunshine ahead of us. I'm actually glad of a day without gardening! Luckily Sarah my garden helper isn't here or she'd have me finally tackling the barn.
My weight is still the same - I need another whoosh! How the ehck can you lose 2.5 pounds overnight and then nothing for a week! The Girls go for boosters and then to be weighed later this afternoon. I think I'll sneak in a wee nap before then as I didn't do that on Mother's Day. Happy Monday to all. |
I actually dragged myself to the pool early this morning and feel much better for it. I've been letting older daughter's news of her split with hubby of 18 years depress me too much. At least it hasn't made me go off my plan but it's been hard. Food is such a comfort but we all know the end result of relying on it.
Talked to younger daughter in Scotland earlier today. She phoned with belated Mother's Day greetings and we had a lovely chat. BTW, don't the US and Canada have Mother's Day on the same date? I always thought so. Judging by tv ads we do. Anyhow, time to get my rear in gear around here. Hey, aren't I poetic? |
Hi all...... wow! I'm home early for a change! I hope everyone had lovely Mothers' Days......... LindaBC, Mother's Day in the US was yesterday, and according to my calendar, for Canada it was today? hmmmmmm... why on a Monday and not a Sunday (weekend?)
I'm sorry that you are stressing over dd's problems - however, <little bit of preaching coming here> just remember that even tho she is your child, these are ultimately HER problems, and you have little to no influence over the outcome. There, does that help you to feel better? I hope so - I hate to see you getting aggravated over what you simply cannot control, after all, there are so many OTHER things to get aggravated over: like the skyrocketing price of gasoline! ;) Ruth, I'd love a whoooooosh too........ even one measly pound would help me to feel a little bit better about myself......I think the world is about to come to an end: YOU? HAPPY about a day without gardening? OY! I don't think I can take this!!!!! Basha, welcome to our little corner of the coop.............the support here is terrific - regardless of whether you are doing well on your plan, and especially if you are not! These chickies are the best!! BTW, you are right near me, I'm in Islip Terrace. As for the sun shiney day - what happened at about 5:00 - where did it go????? :^: Leenie - great to see you...... when do we get to see a new pic of the princess? Dottie - looks to me like you're back on track. How'd the dentist go today? I hope you're not hurting......... Well, time to go get those chicken cutlets cooking............ |
Tuesday!
Ok, made it through Monday. Ate up some leftover FROZEN frosting while watching "A wrinkle in time" until I got disgusted with myself and went to bed. And why would Disney/ABC-TV put a child's show on from 8-10:30 on a school night? I was so annoyed, I may write to them. I was feeling crappy from the dentist(thanks for asking Sono!) and 10:30 is too late for me. I gave up around 9:30!
the dentist wasn't horrible, but what I thought would be just a filling, will need a crown. So it was not fun. I hate the dentist, and only get myself to go with the greatest will power, and then only every few years. It can be like, umm, four or five, but this time was only 2. Oh, well, I have a lot of childhood cavaties from after I had my braces taken off, and the filling deteriorates, and there are cavaties underneath; once I have the crown, it'll be better, I guess. Have my salad romaine all cut up, grilled a huge london broil last night and will have that for some lunches this week. It is supposed to be in the 80's this week, I have NO clothes to wear. I think I'll hit the stores tonight-I didn't buy anything last year cause we were buying a house and every cent went to down payment! So there's not much in the closet, and little of what is there, doesn't fit! So I'd better do something! Enough, I'd better get going...hi to Basha, welcome, glad to have you! How'd yesterday go for you? Hi Linda, L, Ruth, Sono, Kel, Peach, I saw you sneaking in Leenie...and who ever else I missed! dottie |
Morning,
Off to take the kids to school and home to WO, I will check in later.... |
Good Morning :D
Its nice not having a boss for the time being, I can play more here :D Dotti, have fun shopping. I also did myself under yesterday, I bought a box of cookies and well enuf said :( why oh why. Back on plan, today I will fast b/c I just feel soooo carb over loaded and its icky. Its going to feel like 90 today, well Mr. G. said that on WCBS radio this morning so I am making sure I am glugging ALOT of water so I don't pass out and do anything funky :dizzy: I wonder when us chickes are going to have another get together? Hi Everyone, hope you have a great day... HUGS !!! |
Sono, I don't know where you got your calendar but Canada definitely had Mother's Day on Sunday. Very strange. Oh well.
I went to #1 daughter's today for a trim. I didn't want much taken off as I'd like to grow the top a bit longer. My friend had her hair totally changed. She has natural curls and has always worn it forward, curling around her face. Daughter gave her a totally new look. Wow! Amazing what talented hands can do. Yes, I know there's nothing I can do about her problem with her hubby. I just try to be here for her if she needs me. Wish I could offer financial help, but we're just getting by ourselves, although we'll probably give her an even bigger break on the rent for a while. My friend and I went to Swiss Chalet for lunch and they claim to have a low carb menu now....all under 25 gr of carb. Well, I'd like to know how much under because I try to stay under 20 gr for the whole day, not just one meal. Well, I enjoyed a chicken leg and thigh, a green salad with just a dab of dressing and some grilled veggies. How harmful can that be? Roast pork for dinner tonight. |
Thursday morning- just a quick hi as I am running off to work and must be ON TIME for a n early meeting.
yesterday I pushed myself to go clothes shopping. boy was that excrutiating. I haven't seen my butt in a full length mirror in a while! And it is hard to find a size 16 that doesn't have sleeves that come down over my hands and pants that are 5 inches too long. But I got some stuff, but 2 pants have to go to the tailor to be shortened. UGH. that was hard! Today should be OK, as I am still pretty shook up by the sight of myself! I am practically planning salad for breakfast lunch and dinner! have a good one, dottie |
Hi all,
It's been forever! I am back to the low carb lifestyle. I need it bad! My wieght has stayed the same, but it's still about 15lbs heaver then the last time I was doing the low carb way. I did ok yesterday, but then I made my daughter brownies and snacked on one. I was mad at myself, but I stopped after the one I ate. I was proud of myself for that. I have also been drinking LOTS of water, so hopefully that one brownie will not do much harm. My daughter (kindergarden) is going on her first full day field trip today. And it didn't start out great. She got on the wrong bus (the right one never came). I just hope she gets there in time. Well that's all for now, I have to call the school again, and make sure she has gotten there. |
Welcome back, Bella!
Quick post as Sarah is on her way to force me to garden with her! Actually, I am working much harder and longer now that I have "staff". She is working out very well. Hersh goes to her Clinic job right after lunch but I'll try to pop back in mid-afternoon and catch up. Um....Dottie....it's only Wednesday. Sorry! |
Dottie I have the opposite problem, usually clothes are to short, be glad your not going around life looking like your waiting for flood season ;) :p
|
Must be wishful thinking i.e. Thursday morning.
I think it is great that you have help in the garden this year, Ruth. You do so much around there but it must make it easier now that its like a 'group effort'. HATE those full length mirrors! And the lighting is always horrible too for some reason. Glad you were sucessful in getting some clothes tho, Dottie. Nice to see you, Leenie. Your boss must still be gone, huh. 2 1/2 weeks left of school around here and it's crazy! The seniors have all kinds of stuff going on - too numerous to mention. JV baseball team has last game tomorrow then a party Friday afternoon (I need to do dessert!). 8th graders have an all day swim day coming up. I think I need a secretary to keep all these dates straight. Wouldn't that be great to have a personal assistant? Someone to keep the calendar, make appointments, pay bills, file, go to the bank, (program sprinkler systems). lol Have a good day everyone - even if it is only Wednesday. Kel |
Kel, not only is my boss gone, she is really GONE!! meaning she's now working at our other site which means, I am bossless until they hire someone :D :D :D :D :D :D I know I know, don't be to sad about it :s: :s: :s:

Hump Day
Hi all:
What a wonderful group! It is good "accountability" and I think of you whenever I want to hit the sugar and eat something not on my program. Working today after a great day off yesterday. Took a long walk with my husband early this am. It's a good time to reconnect and get some exercise, too. Our son is graduating from law school in 2 weeks and then onto the Bar Review which is sort of living in **** for 2 months. But after that, he's off to live in NYC and start his life--at 28 it's time! Working on getting in my water, cutting down on the coffee, too. Back on track! Hope you all are well. Thanks for the connection. Basha |
Wednesday, Thursday, whatever!
alls I know is it aint Saturday! (that's what comes of posting at 6:45 in the morning while the coffee hasn't kicked in yet!) dottiejon i'm registered as dottie j when I am at work- on a different computer! |
 Afternoon Ladies!!
Thought I would pop in and say hi. I havent been here much and been visiting the Atkins threads more. Did a kitchen remodel, havent made any wedding plans yet, and planning a trip to maine in september. (no plans for the wedding because I think we are just going to take off one weekend) Oh, and we are closing the store at the end of the month. The plan is to move the sign business back to the house and the gift shop online. So far, we have the home page done, but not online yet. Its been very busy around here, and my weight suffered because of it. Im back on track, and its finally coming off again. Thats all I can think of right now, have a great day!! Robin |
Hi Robin. Good to see you here. I'm sorry to hear you're closing your shop. You seemed to take such pleasure in it. It's hard to know how these ventures will turn out in today's economic climate though.
I went to the pool this morning. That's twice this week. Ta DA! Trying to get back in the groove. Even though I threw out the pound of mixed nuts, I still have a tub of L.C. Ice Cream but I don't think it's LC enough. Very yummy, though. Well, when it's gone, I won't get any more. Ruth, I think you'd better send your garden helper to help me. I'm really far behind in my spring chores. Luckily, the perennials are filling in and helping to hide the weeds and lack of mulch. |
Linda! Good for you with the TWO times to the pool this week! I love to exercise in the water as long as it's warm water.
Leenie! So you are bossless, huh - when is a new one supposed to drop in? So hard to break-in a new boss.... Robin! Hi! We've missed you! So you are going to abandon your wall painted mooses, huh? So sad - but I bet the online business will be a great hit. Dottie - You could be Dottie-whatever and we would know ya. Basha! So nice to have you join us! Some of us (lots of us!) have been here for a long time. Please jump right in and chat. We talk about everything - dietlife and otherwise. Ask questions as they come up - there will usually be someone along that has an answer. Wow - 2 postings from me today. Just to make up for times when I don't post for days. I never know what is going to happen around here day to day.... Kel |
Thursday-I'm sure!
Gosh, this week is going slow. We are having some heat and humidily here in NY, and the airconditioners aren't in, so I'm cranky! I'd rather be at work where it's comfortable than home in the hot damp house.
Nice to see you Robin, sorry about the store, I always thought it would be fun to show up at your counter some day and announce I"m a Fat Chick! Well, I hope things are going well. Bella, how did your daughter's day go? Hi Kel, it's fun to see more posts, I know I am feeling better just from being more regular here, maybe just the regularity of sitting down helps me plan my eating a bit better... Hi Linda, swimming and Atkins...that's the ticket! I'm right behind you! Hi Ruth, Basha- what's new? I have a pretty uneventful day today. I am feeling a little more hopeful today that I might actually loose a pound tomorrow(weigh in) I haven't done so well, a lot on program, but too many cheats. The clothes shopping was a seriously motivating experience, as I never want to go through that again! And I actually feel a little better that I was able to get a couple of things to wear that I like: a couple of big linen shirts, and stretchy ankle cropped pants, a dressy pants outfit, and one pair of "nice" linen pants. My clothes are usually close to inappropriately casual...khakis and cotton sweaters or nice shirts,, but even they were getting worn and old looking. That's it from me. Who saw American Idol. What the heck? I loved Latoya and fantasia. If Fantasia is voted off next week, I won't watch anymore, the other 2 are just not that good. be good, dottie :twirly: |
I agree about Idol, Dottie. That was a travesty but it's not the first time they've booted off someone who was more worthy. That red headed guy was kept on much too long. I have to say that young Diana deGarmo (sp?) has really come along. I've been very impressed with her style and showmanship lately but LaToya was certainly better by far. She seems like a pro already and I bet she gets a contract anyhow. I think I know why Jasmine was voted back in. It was all those sad tears the night before. America felt sorry for her after the nasty things Simon said. Also, LaToyal shouldn't have acted so calm and overconfident. But, I think they'll have to come up with a better voting system...1 vote per person or something.
Scale is stuck at 277 this week even though I've been vewy, vewy good. |
Linda, switch to metric and you'll feel better at 127.5 K! Works for me!
I just did the stupidest thing! I shopped in Brockville for a few veggies and left my wallet in the cart! :yikes: A "gentleman" took it to the courtesy desk and I need to go get it. I really don't want to spend over an hour driving there and back tonight so will leave it there until morning! Sheesh! I think I'm losing my mind! I hope to heck the cards are still there - the money is less important. It is really hot today and the frassing AC is not working - seems to me I went through this last summer too! I may just bite the bullet and replace it. It was installed in 1976, I think! The kid from up the hill is cutting our grass so I need to get out there and steer him away from the vines around the pergola before he gets there with the weed whip! Men and Machines! Keep calm and cool and collected in this first heat of the season! |
Happy Friday Morning!
Hi Ruth and Linda and all to come- Ruth, my big "forgot," is to leave my keyes in the car. Now I do better since you lock the car with the little remote thingie, but...what a pain. Hope your wallet is intact. My scale was stuck for the past 2 weeks, I had only lost ONE POUND! But today I got a little whoosh of 1.5 lbs. FINALLY> I have been really REALLY good for this week. It'll probably go back up tomorrow! Nice weekend ahead, it's supposed to be hot tomorrow, but DH will put in the a/c's so I don't care. It was nice yesterday, and comfortable overnight with the windows open. I have no To Do list for the weekend; just some laundry to finish up and whatever cooking/ cleaning /gardening. But all the heavy stuff is done for now. I have been flylady-ing a little here, and a little there. So floors and dusting and bathrooms aren't bad. that's it for me. boring, but happy with my little 1&1/2 lb gone. That will keep me going for next week! be good, dottie |
Hi Ladies:
Happy Friday is right. Looking forward to being outside this weekend-gardening, golf and a hike at a park I've fallen in love with here on LI. Back on track with LCing and looking twice at what I ingest. Have a great weekend, wherever you are! Basha |
Basha, which park have you fallen in love with on LI? I live in Nassau, but grew up in Suffolk...
not that I have any hiking, biking or other sweat-inducing activities in mind! dottiejon (logged in at work as dottie j) |
Dottie:
It's Avalon Park in Stony Brook. A friend of a friend built it in honor of her son who died on a bike. It's near the duck pond on 25 A on the way into the harbor(by 3 village inn). Beautiful sculpture there in his memory. Where are you in Nassau? Basha |
Good afternoon, gang. I just came in from 3 hours of working in the garden. Trying to get it ready for bedding plants, etc., which I'm off to buy as soon as I have a bite of lunch. I want to beat the weekend rush at the garden center.
Very warm here today. I'm all sticky and smelly so I'd better have a shower before going out. I've been in ketosis for two weeks but the scale isn't budging. I hope you all have a lovely OP weekend. |
boy, I am here way too much lately!
basha, I am near Roosevelt Field...my closest park is Eisenhower park, pretty nice, but crowded in the good weather. I think my outdoor activities this weekend will just be some gardening, and lawn mowing. Linda, are you drinking water? Are you pooping? (who else will ask you that?) love, dottie |
Whew! We were up to 85F here today after 30F last Friday night! It's real summertime gardening. I think I could beat you, Linda, in the hot and sticky competition! However, the back garden is rototilled and ready for seeds next week.
My wallet was intact when I picked it up early this morning! There still are lots of good people in the world. I just took Harry to the Library and once again got sucked into ice cream on the way home! Alas! Never mind! Water and hard work will get rid of the calories. I will be working in the greenhouse tomorrow so first chick into the LC Coop please fling open the windows, gather the eggs and start the weekly thread! |
