Sha, I cant imagine the tension and stress your under right now. Hang in there.

Aleka, I went to the HSN boards to catch up and read the thread on religion with interest. It's really religion and politics mixed up together. Wow, some people do get carried away, don't they? I could easily too, but I have to restrain myself. :tape:

alynn 01-29-2004 12:53 PM

Hi Everyone: I have had some computer problems but more about that later. Sha my heart goes out to you. I am new to this thread myself and the worst part of not getting on my computer was not being able to talk to the great ladies on this site. Please join in. After I posted yesterday I left my computer on screen saver and we went shopping, I did laundry and vaccuming. About 5 I went on to see if I had any emails. At my home page it went really funny messages about errors "c" drive all kinds of things. I power off and when I went back on It couldn't do a systems check. I checked my connections andthe plug from the power bar was melting!!! We had to change the outlet and buy a new surger bar. Than during a check ?? every thing stopped and said I have 2 options click on 1. The problem was I had no curser. So after a while of nothing I hit the escape key and voila here I am. Anybody out there got any ideas what that was about? Anyway I guess my problem of losing emails was probably caused by a short. Moral of the story allways check connections. Coco is okay today. Following my DH outside everytime he goes for a smoke. Hope it lasts!! What are the HSN board (me and my short forms Again). Well ladies, I will be back later now that I know I can. Talk to you later. I posted to you before I emailed my kids who must be wondering why they havn't heard from me in 2 days. Later

Sha 01-29-2004 04:30 PM

I wanted to let you all the know. It is NOT cancer. Don't know what it is, and they want to do more tests... But it is not cancer..Thanks so much for all your support, and prayers. And good thoughts. Thanks again.. I don't know what to do, laugh or cry.. maybe I will just do both..

ANNE D 01-29-2004 05:32 PM

Good Evening Ladies:
Snow stopped but it is brutally cold here  I have had a dandy of a day.
Last night before I left work  called me and said You and I have a
meeting with Human Resources tomorrow. I said is it about Tanya, she
said yes. I had nightmares all night.
So to make a long story short.... after much :censored:and foot stomping by  to the H/R employee We have all decided the cash office
is not a good place for Tanya and they will try to locate her elsewhere.
I was asked by H/R if there were any light duties in the cash office and there
honestly are not. As it is the back of my neck is burning like a poker again
tonight from the stress :stress: She won't be terminated but the boss
does not want her in the department at all. Personally I think she should
be placed across the road in the business office I had been working in before
I moved to the hospital but the boss won't hear of it. She made quite a
scene in the restaurant where we had our meeting. I was pretty embarassed.
I have a vacation day Friday but I have school meetings to attend for my
son Sean. Its a never ending story, even when I am on vacation I am
working.
Nikki, you sound like you are doing great on your program. Way to go. :cheer:
Aleka, about my diet  After I came home last night knowing I was going
to this meeting I ate a big pile of chocolate, chips and cookies. I am
disgusted with myself
Hi Lynn, one thing I am not is computer savvy. I hope you find out whats
wrong with your computer :)
Sha, I am happy for your good news about your husband.

Talk to you all later.
Anne.

aleka 01-29-2004 07:04 PM

Sha, I am so happy that your DH does not have cancer. You all must be so relieved. :cb: :high: You have the right to do both, laugh and cry. Let us know how the tests turn out.

lynn, HSN is Home Shopping Network. They have bulletin boards that nikki & I look at and sometimes post. If you'd like to take a peek, it's www.hsn.com Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click onto "customer service". When that page appears, click onto "Interact with us". When that page comes up, scroll down to the bottom where it says bulletin boards, and click onto the word "click". When that page appears, click onto 'I Agree" and voila you're finally there. :dizzy: Glad you got your computer problems fixed.

nikki, I couldn't believe some of the things that were said on the boards. I do get a lot of information, whether or not it's true.

ANNE, sorry you're losing Tanya. Will they hire anyone else to help you out in your office? That scene your boss made at lunch must have been awful for you. At least you don't have to face  tomorrow. Don't be hard on yourself about eating the cookies. We all have moments where we need comfort food. Good luck with your school meetings.

We didn't see the movie this afternoon. When we got to the theater, there were no matinees. My girlfriend looked it up in the paper before we met, and the showtime said 12:00. We met for lunch at 11:00, wolfed down our lunch so that we could be at the movies for noon, only to find that it wasn't open. :censored: So we decided to go to the mall and we had a nice time. For once we did no shopping, we bought an ice cream and then we got some coffee, sat, and just talked. It was really nice for a change.

Good night,
Aleka

alynn 01-29-2004 07:04 PM

Hi Everybody: Sha Fabulous!!!!!! The worst is over Good Luck to you both. Keep us all posted. Anne I hope you emjoyed the chocolate!!!!!!! The night is young and after the fear of no computer CHOCOLATE SOUNDS LIKE A CURE ALL! And I'm not into chocolate. Have a great day tomorrow (lunch with DH) and talk to you all .

nikkic 01-30-2004 11:47 AM

Good morning,
I dumped my cookies, so I never did get an email that you guys were posting here. Thought I must have said something wrong and made you all mad. Then I realized why.

Sha, I am so happy for you and your DH. Hopefully, they can now figure out what is going on and help him to feel better. What a relief for you all. What diet plan are you following? I'm on Atkins and trying very hard to stay OP this time. Since I"m a little older, my metabolism is not cooperating, so my weight loss is not as good as it use to be, but I'm still feeling better all the time. I've read wonderful things about green tea, it has many antioxidant properties. Try to get your DH to drink a couple of cups a day, if he doesn't already. I quit drinking coffee completely and now drink green tea. At first, I went through a withdrawal period (seemed like my brain was screaming coffee all day), but now I am fine with it.

Lynn, I am not a computer person. All I know is, turn it off and turn it on, if there are any problems. When do you get your new laptop? I am forever frustrated with my computer and when I ask Gateway for help, I often get some answer that you need a college degree in computers to understand. The last time I needed help, I did get some help from them, but I had to go back and ask 2 different people to get a real answer.
I'm wondering if there are too many things plugged into that outlet, or if the wiring in the walls needs replaced, since the plug melted. Sounds more like a wiring problem than the computer itself, but I'm no electrician either. If you looked under my computer desk, you'd see a sea of wires and way too many things plugged in there for sure.

Anne, I know what you mean. I do the same thing when I get frustrated or angry and eat myself sick on junk food. Then later, I get mad at myself for doing that. Your  sounds like she's just plain nuts. I know this will not be good for you, since you need the help, but hopefully, Tanya will be happier in her new job. At least they didn't fire her. I can't imagine how stressed out you are with all that is going on and home too. Can you afford to get a massage or treat yourself to a spa treatment? If not, make DH give you a good massage with some warm oil, put on soft music, light a candle and tell the kids to fend for themselves for 1/2 hour. Then take a warm bath and concentrated on your breathing. You need to take care of you first, so you can take care of everyone else.

Aleka, sorry about the movie, but glad you had a good time. DD and I want to see the movie Monster. Sounds really interesting and it's hard to believe how they got Charlize Theron to look like that. She said she gained 30 lbs for the roll, wore fake teeth and had her hair thinned. I want to see it, just to see her.

I've been busy, trying to get everything ready for Monday. I try to get all the things I can organized, so DH doesn't have too much to worry about after I come home from surgery. I shopped all day yesterday for food and spent about a million dollars on stuff. :D Fortunately, DH wasn't with me or he would have passed out :faint: It costs a lot to buy things for at least 2 weeks, plus we were out of everything that you can think of. I still have to return and get some of those frozen meals. Aleka, they have Smart Ones and Lean Cusine that are low carb.
I tried the new Skippy Peanut butter that says carb options (3 net carbs) and it is just as good as regular Skippy. It is a little runnier, but tastes the same. I have used Smuckers natural too, but it's kind of dry. I think peanuts are a good source of protein and alot of good things, but I can't eat just a handful. I can eat just a couple of tbs of PB a day, so that is my solution.

Take care ladies, Nikki

Sha 01-30-2004 12:08 PM

Thanks Nikkic... Yea I feel about 100 pound lighter today. I am doing the Carb Addict's program . I Can't beleive how easy it has been. I only weigh myself once a week. but last week I was down 6 pounds. I am almost done with week two. I know I have lost more and am really loking forward to Monday weigh in.
Again thanks to everyone . It was really nice to have someone to talk to..
I do have to tell on myself. I bought some so called low carb bars and candy. Was so excited until I got home and read the back and not the front. way to many sugar alcohol grams. I can't beleive I did that... I guess I will just not make that mistake again..

nikkic 01-30-2004 12:22 PM

Sha, those low carb candies and bars seem to stall everyone. Even though they say that the sugar alcohols have very little impact on your blood sugar, I don't believe it. I think we must be metabolizing it anyway, cause it sure does make me gain weight. The other thing about those things is, I can't eat just one, I eat 5 or 6 at a time. So, I might as well forget them anyway.
I found an interesting article on how the carbs listed on packages are not always truthful. I will post it later. It's long, but worth reading.

aleka 01-30-2004 01:08 PM

Good afternoon everyone,

Tomorrow DH & I are heading down to MA to visit some friends of our's. They called last night and last week he broke his ankle getting out of his truck going into work. He's in a cast for 6 weeks, but he's still working.

Sha, glad that you're feeling better. There is nothing like good news to make you feel as though a weight has been lifted off your shoulders. How do you like the Carb Addicts Plan? Congratulations on your 6 lb. weight loss. :cb: :bravo: I don't buy the low carb bars very often because I'm a little leery of malitol.

nikki, I'll have to look in the grocery store for the low carb Smart Ones and Lean Cuisine. I think that's a riot about the Smart Ones because they're from WW, and WW usually is higher in carbs. I guess everyone is jumping on the low carb bandwagon.

lynn, did you enjoy your lunch with your DH? I think we were posting at the same time again yesterday. :s:

ANNE, how did the meeting go at the school?

Enjoy the rest of your day.
Aleka

alynn 01-30-2004 03:11 PM

Hi Everyone: Another cold and windy day. The highway that takes us to the biggest city around to shop has been closed 2 days in a row with drifting snow with 0 visibility. When I turned my computer on it was the same as yesterday. Telling me errors on "C" drive. It took 33 minutes to get to start menu. Told DH I wouldn't be waiting for my brothers lap top (june) if I couldn't fix it it would have to go to a repair shop or I would need a new 1 now I went into tools and did a scan disk (took forever), a diskcleanup, defraged than set up the maintenance wizard (I hope). I also cleaned up the cookies. It was great when I powered off than re-booted to got to start menu ina minute or so. I am very proud of myself if I do say so myself. It also made my DH a very happy camper LOL. I want to see that movie with Diane Keaton also Maybe next time we go down to Mississauga with a friend. DH has already said no to it, but we both want to see the movie with Charlise Theron. We saw her interviewed by Oprah what she went though with makeup, weight gain. She came across as sympathetic to the woman she was playing. How long are you going to be away Aleka? What time do you have to be at the hospital Nikki? The thought of putting away 2 weeks of groceries makes me cringe. I love shopping but hate putting them away. The DH has started to do it for me. Well must go will be back later.

nikkic 01-30-2004 07:50 PM

Evening,
I decided to cancel my surgery and will have to reschedule on Monday. There is a major blizzard predicted to hit on Sunday and continue on into Monday. Even if we went and rented a room on Sunday, I'm afraid the surgery would be canceled because the Dr might not show up or something like that due to snow. I can't see trying to travel home afterwards in that kind of weather either. If we got stuck, I couldn't walk and it would be really miserable if not deadly. So, will try it again later in the month.
At least I don't have to worry about groceries, :D

Lynn, good for you, doing all that yourself. I do that stuff too, when I think about it. I have the disk clean up set to do every day and I defrag when I notice things are moving slower than usual, but I should do it a lot more often. I think these darn things (pc's) should do this stuff automatically. Seems to me that you pay enough for them, all a person should have to do is turn them off and on and they should just work right.
Do you download updates from Microsoft regularly? I have it set up so it is done everyday automatically and don't have to worry about it. Also, I download updates from Norton antivirus all the time. All the new worms and viruses, you can't be to careful.

Guess I'll go jump on my gazelle and work off some calories, have a good evening everyone. Nikki

alynn 01-31-2004 08:17 AM

Goodmorning Ladies: I can understand why you would want to cancel your surgery Nikki, after all with the surgeries you have had you know what to expect. One thing about winter we have to really respect mother nature and plan around her. I down load from Windows when I think of it. Were do I go to set it to it do automatically? I have norton and it does a scan once a week. I assume that they do upgrades then right? If you think of anything else you do please share. Or if you hear of "stuff" from other places. We were to meet my step-father in Barrie to pass over the dog today but we woke up tp 6 inches of snow and the weather channel says another 5-6 to come. I doubt we will go. There is no wind so at least that won't factor in. You are definately set up in the grocery department. Well I'll go do my hair just in case he decides to go. Talk to you later

aleka 01-31-2004 08:18 AM

A good Saturday morning to you all...

Just a quick post before we head for Massachusetts.

lynn, that's wonderful that you're able to do all those things with the computer. You've done a lot more than I have. I wouldn't know where to start. I rely on DH to defrag and all the other stuff. I've told him on a number of occasions that if he wasn't around I would not have a computer.

nikki, sorry about you having to cancel your surgery. I would do the same. I think that storm you're supposed to be getting Sun., is going to hit us Tues. afternoon into Wed., and they said it could be a substantial snow storm. At least if you get snowed in you'll have enough groceries. ;) This latest e mail worm is a nusance. Supposedly our firewall is supposed to weed them out.

Hi ANNE and Sha hope you're both doing well.

Well, gotta go take my shower so we can leave around 10:00 am. Take care and have a great day.
Aleka

nikkic 01-31-2004 08:34 AM

Lynn,
I have a Gateway with XP, so my instructions to do something may be different than for you, but here is what I found

Scheduling automatic updates
You can set up Windows to automatically download updates and install them on a schedule you specify. This enables you to keep your computer up-to-date without any interruptions. You don't even have to be at your computer.

To schedule automatic updates

Open in Control Panel.
On the Automatic Updates tab, click Automatically download the updates and install them on the schedule that I specify.
Set the days and time when you want Windows to install updates.
After you set this option, Windows finds updates on the Windows Update Web site that apply to your computer and downloads them automatically in the background (you are not notified or interrupted during this process). When downloading is complete, a message appears in the status area so you can review the updates that are scheduled for installation. If you choose not to install at that time, Windows starts the installation on your set schedule.

Notes

To modify Automatic Updates settings, you must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings might also prevent you from completing this procedure.
If you choose to install updates when notified, you must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group. However, installation will take place during the scheduled install time regardless of who is logged on to the computer at that time.
Some updates might require that your computer be restarted to complete the installation. If you are logged on to your computer, Windows notifies you and gives you the option to delay the restart. Be sure to save any work prior to the scheduled installation time.

As far as Norton, you have to update this yourself. It does scan automatically, but you need to update it regularly. At least I do, if you know of how to set this to automatic downloading, let me know. Click on each of these- start, all programs, norton antivirus and then updates. Then follow the prompts. It is important to update your computer regularly to prevent infection of viruses and identity theft.
