Goodmorning Ladies: Anne I have been watching the weather channel and are you ever going to get it down there. What you got so far is just lake effect. Later on this morning a real storm with 15-30 cm. is on its way. I sure that will stop the city and mayor Mel isn't around to call in the national guard. On a positive note maybe you will get a snow day tomorrow! I am going into Barrie this week and will check out GNC. I have never been in there before. I am going on a search for other products also. Will let you know if I am successful. I am on the computer a lot right now to Nikki. It keeps me out of thwe kitchen. I plan my day of what I have to do than reward myself with computer time as I complete tasks. Ther wise I would get nothing done. I don't watch T.V. until later in the day and some times I just can't concentratenon reading, so this is my therapy. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Are you house bound today Aleka? Oh before I forget, I was on an interesting site www.recipegoldmine.com Check it out Be back later

Just read my post sorry for the typo's. When I realized I hit reply with quote and my message came up how do you change the sreen to type my message? Thanks

nikkic 01-26-2004 10:07 AM

Lynn, I'm not sure what your asking, but you can always go back and edit it if you want. After the post comes up on the thread, look at the bottom of your post and there is an edit button, just hit that. Don't worry about typos though, we all make them and they aren't important. I've seen some people make big deals out of them on other BB's and I think that's just silly. Ok, I just edited that last word right now.

nikkic 01-26-2004 10:59 AM

Hi everyone,
Lynn, if your going to do Atkins, read, read, read. There's a thread here on Chocolate cravings that is pretty good. There are so many places to look for information and it's well worth checking them out. I've been drinking diet rite pop this week, it's made with splenda and that's suppose to be ok. But, even though I've stayed on plan, I have not lost any weight this week, (I weigh again on Wed so maybe I can lose a lb by then). I'm wondering if it is the diet rite pop. I think I'll cut it down to just one can every couple of days and see if that makes a difference. I see some other people say that it stalls them too. I wrote to the Diet Rite people and asked if they used liquid or powdered splenda in their pop. If it's powdered, that would answer the question. Looking back on my food journal for the week, the only thing I've had that I did was have 2 pieces of cheesecake on DD birthday. If I don't lose, but didn't gain, I guess that's still ok, considering the birthday and all.
Hormones play a big part in it too and I just got done with TOM, so guess I should be happy I didn't run out and buy a ton of chocolate.

Hey, Anne and anyone, Dr. Weil had this about Passion Flower today on his daily tip, did you catch it?

Today's Tip: Herbal Medicine Chest - Passion Flower
If you are experiencing stress, anxiety or insomnia, consider trying Passion Flower. Passiflora incarnate is the dried aerial parts (leaves, stems and flowers) of the plant. It is available as tincture and extracts; take one dropperful of the tincture in a little warm water, or two capsules of extract, up to four times a day as needed - children should take half the adult dose. Passion Flower should not be used by women who are pregnant - active compounds may be uterine stimulants. When purchasing, look for standardized whole plant extracts or capsules containing no less than 0.8 percent flavonoids or isovitexin. If you are taking MAO-inhibiting anti-depressant drugs, consult your physician before taking Passion Flower

Wonder if it helps? Think I'll look it up at the health food store and see if they have any.

I cleaned the house today, rather than exercise. I like to take one day off a week from exercise and clean instead.

It's snowing here. If it keeps up, we might not go to my surgical consult, it's a couple hours drive. Already there have been a number of accidents and one death this morning. I guess we'll see what it's like tomorrow. The wind chill tomorrow is suppose to be below -25. That's a long way to drive in a convertible, even with the top up, it's damn cold in that car.

Later, Nikki

Good morning everyone,

Took Lacee to the Vets this morning for her yearly shots. She didn't disappoint me in the waiting room, she growled at anyone and everyone who walked through the front door.

ANNE, please be careful on your commute to work and on your way home. No, we're not getting the storm you're getting. It is snowing in New York City and points south of us. We might get a storm tomorrow night into Wed. morning, but the bulk of it is supposed to stay south of us. At least there is something good to say about the cold weather. ;)

lynn, I am sort of house bound this morning, except for the highlight of the day, taking the dog to the vet. It's so cold that I don't want to go out at all. What type of books do you like to read? I love mysteries and anything that can keep me on the edge of my seat. Right now I'm trying to get through Cold Mountain. Some parts of it are sooo boring  that I skip over a lot of it. It's going a lot faster now!

nikki, you'll feel better when you get those screws & plates out of your ankle. Are they bothering you or is it just time to take them out and how long will you have to wear the boot?

Have a great day.
Aleka

nikki, I think we were posting at the same time again. :)

Good Evening Ladies: I have been thinking of you Anne since my some how lives in Mississauga (a city of 250,000 on the border of Toronto) and works in Mississauga took 2 hours to get home. I was joking about a "snow day" but it is looking like a very real possibilty. Aleka I love mysteries and of coarse cook books. I particularly love English mysteries. I also love English shows on the TV. I am addicted to their "soap's" Coronation Street and Emmerdale. At the trailer we have a dish and I pick up bbc canada which carries many British shows and I am in seventh heaven. Today I got my housework caught up and tomorrow if I am house bound I can play on the computer all I want. My dog hates the vet. We walk in and she starts to shake. I hate taking her and usually wimp out and make my DH go. If God forbid she has to be put to sleep the vet will have to make a house call. She will not leave this world in fear. Well ladies have a great night. Talk to you tomorrow.

alynn 01-26-2004 07:32 PM

Sorry spelling again. That is my son who lives in Missauga. Wish I would remember to spell check before I post.

aleka 01-27-2004 10:54 AM

Good morning everyone,

Didn't go to my WW meeting this morning. I woke up around 1:30 this morning and could not get back to sleep. I finally fell asleep around 5:00 and when I woke up it was after 8:00 and that's the time I have to leave for WW to get there on time. I still had to shower and have breakfast. But, I did get on the scale at home and according to our scale, which doesn't read the same as WW, I'm down 4 lbs., but I don't really think that's possible. Maybe I should just go by my scales.

lynn, don't worry about your spelling, we all misspell (don't even know if that is the right spelling) :D words. One of my favorite authors is PD James. There is another British author I like, I think her name is Elizabeth George. I also enjoy British comedy. My favorite is Keeping Up Appearances. That Hyacinth is a hoot. Hyacinth reminds me somewhat of a late aunt of mine. She was built a lot like Hyacinth and had some of her traits. Another favorite British comedy is Are You Being Served. One of our PBS stations used to have British comedies every Sat. night from 6:30 to around 10:00. They don't do that anymore and I really miss it. Lacee is out of sorts today, we think the shots are finally catching up to her. We'll watch her a little closely because yesterday she had a short period where she wasn't feeling well but seemed to recover quickly. The dog we had before Lacee, we had to put to sleep. DH & I were there with her because we didn't want her to be alone. She was out of it so bad she did not know what was happening to her. It was a tough decision, but the vet reassured us it was the right one because he said that if we had waited she woul've gone into convulsions and died.

ANNE, how much snow did you get and did you have a snow day? Hope your commute home wasn't too scary.

nikki, were you able to get to your surgical consult and how much snow did you get? We're only going to get about 1"-3" out of that storm, as it's staying well to the south of us. Where my cousin, the one I went to NY with, lives in MA, is supposed to get the brunt of the storm. Hope you made out ok with that storm.

The voting polls open in our town around noon, so we'll be heading out to vote around that time.

Have a wonderful day!
Aleka

nikkic 01-27-2004 11:15 AM

Good morning,
We're leaving to go to the consult in about an hour. We got a few inches of snow, but the wind and temp is so darned cold. It's -2 and the wind chill is -25. This will be an all day affair. They say the first appoinment is at 140 and the last one is at 330pm, but I bet we'll be there til early evening. It happens every time.
I'm looking forward to getting all the metal possible out of my leg. There is quite a bit and when the weather gets really cold, the metal gets cold and I'm miserable. DH is afraid my bones will break down again without the metal in there. I am too, but the Dr seems to think it will be ok.

Aleka, good for you, losing 4 lbs. :cb: :dancer: :high: Even if it's only 1/2 right, it's pretty good :D
Bet you'll be glad when the canditates move on to the next state. It is much quieter here now that they are gone. At least I don't have to see them on the tv every few seconds, now it's every few minutes

Lynn, I like the same British shows Aleka mentioned. We still get them here. We are a mile out in the country, so we have Directv and get BBC America. DD use to say that DH and I remind her of Daisy and Onslow (don't know how to spell it, her husband) on Keeping up Appearances. Now she says she only said that to get me going, but I can sometimes see the simularities.

Guess I better finish my emails for the day and get going, Nikki

aleka 01-27-2004 12:43 PM

nikki, good luck today at the Dr. You have lost a substantial amount of weight, and that has taken a lot of the pressure off your bones, so I would say they will be ok. I'll be glad when this is all over. We've had TV ads for months. This past week it's been nothing but telephone calls! :bomb: :censored: It has gotten to the point where we just let our answering machine get the phone. The answering machine is downstairs and whenever the phone rings one of us will run downstairs just in case it's someone we want to talk to. Gotta run and go vote.

Hi Everyone: Have had some problems with my computer the same thing as the last 2 sundays.I called my daughter at work and she went to one of the computer nerds and surprise surprise it is my fault! Here in the boonies I have dial up and I am so impatient I am always hitting something befoe the machine has a chance to follow orders. So now for the 3x here I am. Aleka I hope Lacee is feeling better. It is so awful when a pet gets sick, they can't tell you why. My coco is doing well today. Sunday morning she fell on the kitchen floor and couldn't get up without my help. I thought it was the beginning of the end. At 16 I'm sure we are on borrowed time with her but, I'm not ready. Anne did you get a 1/2 day today because of the power outage? My daughter was able to catch the 12:43 train to Burlington. and spent the next hour or so doing the drive. Nikki, hope you have a safe trip for your Dr. app't. Did you get lunch and/or dinner out? I will catch you all later but it is now dinner time and must go. Talk to you later

aleka 01-27-2004 06:27 PM

lynn, I had a good chuckle out of you being impatient with your computer. Were we separated at birth? :?:  OMG I am the most impatient person when it comes to things like that. We get our internet service from our cable company, and sometimes things are still too slow for me. I guess when I click onto something I want it to POOF and be there. I'm sorry about your dog falling on the floor that must have been scary for you. I know what it's like living on borrowed time with an elderly pet. You are lucky to have your dog reach 16 years. Our's was 12 when we had to have her put to sleep. Lacee seems to be a bit more lively tonight. If she's still like this tomorrow I will call the Vet to see if he can figure out what is wrong with her.

Good Evening All:

The weather has been terrible. We have had 8 inches so far. There is
a fair bit of wind so it is tough going to get around. There was a blackout
at work today as well. It lasted 2 hours!!! They kept annoucing it was
a code orange. I asked a co-worker what the **** does that mean. It means
external disaster. Wonderful eh??? Our hospital was put in lockdown which
means you were not allowed to leave. Thank God everything turned out ok.

Lynn, I live very close indeed to Mississauga. I live at Rathburn and East
Mall so your son and I are getting the identical weather. My sister stayed
home today because of the weather :) I live in Etobicoke.

Aleka, :bravo: :cp: :cb: :hat: 4 pounds down!!! Excellent :)

Nikki, I hope all went well with your doctors visit.

Talk to everyone later.
Anne.

Goodmorning Ladies: This for the second time. I guess it is going to take me a while to slow down. If I had a dollar for every stupid mistake I made though impatience or speed I would be rich. Glad to hear Lacee is feeling better. It's to early to hear the weather but I hope you day is better than the last couple of days have been Anne. How was your trip to the Dr. Nikki. I have a story to tell you. On Canada AM yesterday morning I heard that a Canadian soldier was killed and several were injured in Afaganistan by a suicide bomber. After the news the next guest (obviously pre-arranged) was a young Afaganistan boy (19-20) now as his whole family now Canadian citizans. He had just been released from Guantanamo Bay after been detained after 9/11. Released after the Canadian gov't interfered because of pressure bought on by the Canadian-Afganastans. He has a brother still in the camp. Oh I forgot to add it has been proven that he, his father and 2 brothers have been all trained by al-Qaeda! Anyway he is on the show because his father has been killed in a shoot out and his brother aged 14 is paralized from the waist down. He wants your gov't to bring back his father's body, bring back his brother (cost of flight $10,000) and oh yes made the Ontario gov't wave the 3 month waiting period before OHIP kicks in (our health care system). He said they family couldn't afford to pay for his brothers care for the 3 months (50,000-100,000). When asked how he could justify the expense to Canadians especally with resent events he replied " He is a minor and a Canaian and he has rights". He has rights! I am so pissed off!!!!!!!!. I actally sent a email to Canada Am as I am sure many people did. What is wrong with this picture? Am I being small minded? Any way that is my ***** and enough said. Must go clean the fridge as it is garbage day and I have to go shopping later as the cupboard's are bare. Talk to you later
