LOL! Ohhhhhhh! The Hershey's Cocoa is what we are talking about! That is baking chocolate - it smells like the real thing but stick your finger, taste and you will quickly know that it is NOT sweetened! Mix up some of the whipping cream, add some cocoa and splenda and put a bit in fancy desert cups. Add some slivered almonds and there ya go! It's legal and it will get you over the hump.

The major cravings and voice in the head, etc. DO subside after eating clean for a while. BUT TOM is a red flag time where you have to watch it. Make some of the special LC treats for this time and it does help.

oh man I feel like such a dunce!! I'm going to allow myself a cup of cocoa before bedtime to maybe get rid of this stupid fixation on chocolate. Maybe then I won't feel like scarfing down everything in site!!

Ms Spotdog 01-25-2004 09:19 PM

It's ok, Brenda - you are new to this. It's a whole new world. Don't worry about asking questions. Remember, there are no dumb questions. We all had to learn this stuff when we first started. (and it is so hard to UNlearn all that low fat stuff!) And I think that is a good idea to have some so it will get out of your system.

lady_adnerb 01-25-2004 09:34 PM

:) I made it and only drank 1/4 of it :) Turns out I didn't NEED it--just the thought of not having it. Once I was able to drink it I really didn't want it. I know, I'm weird. lol

SonoGranny 01-25-2004 09:46 PM

Brenda.... you are NOT weird: you're normal, just like the rest of us!

However, all this talk of chocolate has me going nuts!! and poor me without a drop of chocolate in the house!! Oh well, I I guess I'd better go to bed, that way I won't eat any of dh's stuff! (he's not even here to stop me!)

I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to sound chastising. It was supposed to sound teasing. That's the trouble with the printed word. You can't see my expression.
I'm glad you found the right cocoa. Yes, there are still carbs in cocoa but if you only use 1 tbsp per serving, 3 gr doesn't seem a high price to pay for that chocolate fix.
Please don't be shy about asking questions or posting here just because I came across like an old battle-ax. Well, I AM an old battle-ax but I like to pretend otherwise.

I looked for a hug smiley but couldn't find one. *hugs* to you. I didn't take offense. I was joking also and figured you were also. And it's ok to chatise me--especially if it looks like I'm going to blow the best thing that could have happened to me (Atkins). I don't take offense at people unless they really start to insult me or swear at me. So it's all good :)

LindaBC 01-26-2004 03:51 PM

I'm glad to hear that, Brenda. I can't claim to be perfect so I try not to judge others. Heaven knows, I goof up a lot myself. I'm pretty sure that the last couple of times I've made the cocoa, I've been a bit too generous with the cocoa AND the cream.
:grouphug:

lady_adnerb 01-26-2004 05:51 PM

I think I overdid on the cocoa because that's all I could taste. Have to admit I wasn't crazy about the taste (which would explain why I didn't drink it all). So I'm going to have to figure something else out for the chocolate cravings. lol

3 Minute Chocolate Cake

I haven't tried this but everyone on another low carb forum is raving about it. Probably not the best thing for Induction but perhaps for a treat later on when you really want some chocolate.

1/4 cup almond flour (ground almonds) - 1 oz
1 tbsp plain cocoa
1/4 tsp baking powder
3 tbsp plus 1 tsp granular Splenda or 1/4 tsp liquid Splenda
2 tbsp butter, melted
1 tbsp water
1 egg

Mix the almond flour, cocoa, baking powder and granulated Splenda in a 2 cup glass measuring cup. If you're using liquid Splenda, stir it in with the butter, water and egg. Mix well with a spoon or fork. Scrape batter down evenly with a rubber spatula. Cover with a plastic wrap and vent by cutting a small slit in the center. Microwave on high 1 minute until set but still a little moist on top. It may take a bit longer. Cook slightly and serve warm topped with whipped cream. Makes 2 servings
If using granular Splenda each serving will have 4.5 net carbs
With liquid Splenda, - 2 net carbs each.
I don't believe in net carbs though, so I'd probably count it as 6 grams.

SonoGranny 01-26-2004 09:08 PM

Oh Linda, that sounds wonderful!!! I cannot wait to try it - one question, tho.... where can I find almond flour? I have the Atkins bake stuff, would that work? Or would it just make it taste yuk? I don't have liquid splenda, but I do have some liquid stevia and liquid Sweet'n'low........... does anyone think that the liquid stevia is sweet? I haven't thought so, and so I don't use it............
Answer quick.. I HAVE to have some of this recipe!!!!! :o

lady_adnerb 01-26-2004 09:29 PM

I whipped some cream. added a drop of vanilla, 2 packets of splenda and a drop of cocoa. YUMMY! I put the bowl away after not even eating a tsp of it :) but it made my chocolate craving go away.

anyone know how to count that??

lady_adnerb 01-26-2004 09:30 PM

oh...and i plan on keeping a copy of that cake recipe. i'll have time to search for the ingredients while still on induction (i know. the whipped topping dessert I made doesn't qualify....but it helped w/the cravings!)

SonoGranny 01-26-2004 09:33 PM

Brenda..... whatever helps! don't make yourself totally crazy (ok ok ok, let's not even go there!!! ) sometimes it takes a little "something" that might not be totally within your induction limits to help you stay OP - if it works for you, and helps you to be able to do your plan without creating a stall or a "slip", well then - it's ok imho!

lady_adnerb 01-27-2004 08:42 AM

I'm not craving anything but the chocolate---and that usually is at night. Anyone have a clue why that'd be? Is it just because the TOM is almost here?
