The Great Pumpkin Challenge - Week 7

Ok, Chickies, we are almost there and it looks like some of you are actually going to make your goal. I still have some work to do to achieve mine but I believe it's still reachable. More water, more exercise and more variety in food choices are on my agenda for the coming week. What changes are you going to make to ensure you get to your challenge goal?

barbmarie 10-14-2003 03:25 AM

Actually I changed my goal. Wasn't going to make it to 154 with the 2lb gain last week. I lost the 2lb gain I had last week, plus 1/2 pound more. Hopefully I am finally back on track!

no_way_but_up 10-14-2003 05:09 AM

yesterday went good for me, followed plan and drank lots of water. even got some exercise in before bed.

fullfig 10-14-2003 09:08 AM

i've got 4 more lbs to hit my goal of 25 lbs. so, i've started exercising. supersized and i compared measurements last night. in the six weeks that i've been on atkins, i've lost 2.5 in in each thigh, 2 in in bust, 2 in in waist, and 2.5 in in hips for a total of 11.5 in. the purpose in comparing, however, was to estimate how this gown of hers might fit me for the ball on nov 8. the dress would not zip on her right now. my problem is that my bust and waist are both 2 in larger than hers. so, i've really got to step on it if i am going to be able to wear that gown without letting out the amount that she had originally had taken in. letting it out makes it an 18. i was hoping to not have to do that. when going through my closet this weekend, i discovered that two 14 dresses and one 16 dress fit perfectly. so, let's cross every toe and finger that this dress will fit. i've only got about 3 weeks left.

Froufy 10-14-2003 09:57 AM

I don't know if I'll make my goal of 185...but I should be close (currently 188.4). I know if I started exercising I would be much better off.

Fullfig I am truly impressed and inspired with your hard work and planning..you go girl...and I KNOW you will fit into that dress for the Ball (Is Prince Charming going to be there?)

I should also be planning ahead as I realize my daugther's bat-mitzvah is only 2 months away (Dec 13th)....I have a dress I plan to wear (it was a bit tight across the tummy last time I tried it on, but was fitting), so I hope it will work out. If I look fabulous I may splurge on something new...but then it won't fit once I hit goal, so I'll try and resist. Have a girlfriend's son's bar-mitzvah to go to on Nov. 15 and no idea what I'll be wearing??? If you're done with that ballgown fulfig...maybe....???? lol

FulFig - You can do it! It will come off faster than you think! In 8 weeks I lost 4 inches in my bust! you are getting close. IF you have any 16 oz cans of veggies, use them as weights and lay on the floor with your shoulders on a pillow, and do some chest presses and flys. That will help with the loss in the bust by giving you some muscles... it really works! I used to do that when I was doing WW a few years ago. The muscle definition you gain will re-adjust your bustline and along with the weight loss, you will see a loss in inches! :) Hope that helps!

I am still sick ladies. But slowly starting to feel better. I was planning to go back to the gym today, but I think I better take one more day. I still have that yucky crude when I cough and it gets hard to breathe at some points. But I am still right on plan with eating! 71 days and counting!

Tippurr 10-14-2003 10:08 AM

I have 5 pounds to go to get under 300. I don't know if I'll make it by Halloween, but just the experience of the challenge has been worth it. It provides the incentive I need to stay on track. I finished my first food journal and have started a new one.

fullfig- I'm sure you'll meet your goal. What does the gown look like? Write a description for us.

Everyone have a great week.

Karla

fullfig 10-14-2003 10:34 AM

thanks ladies!

thanks so much. i hope i can do it.

froufy--my prince charming of ten years bought our tickets today. he has been on atkins twice--back in the spring and again these last few weeks. he has lost almost 30 lbs between the two times. he is currently at 158 and trying to get to the 140's. when we got married, i was at 135 and he was between 150 and 155. together, we are trying to get in better shape and live longer, healthier lives. we started our family late, having our dd just a couple of weeks before our 6th anniversary. i was 29 and he was almost 35. he also has a 19 year old from his first marriage. anyway, i know my prince charming will be there and will he be stunning!!!

karen, thanks for the tips. i think i know what you mean by crunches and thighs, but not fully sure. can you give me a few more details. i would love to lose more of these "mook-mooks". this is what my dd calls my breasts. she nursed for a full 38 months. i have heard many women say that breastfeeding does not cause saggy boobs. my take is that having them stretched and full of milk for four years (counting the pregnancy fullness), how can they not look deflated when they are emptied.;) anyway, i need all the help i can get. i've just started exercising again. i'm doing the 8 minutes in the morning exercises for real shapes and sizes. this is strenghtraining. i've also restarted my watp vidoeos. i did the 2 mile and 1 mile tapes this morning. thanks again. i hope you get to feeling better soon.

tippur, i have no idea what this gown looks like. supersized and i are identical twins, who have very similar tastes, except for men;) . we never would have considered going out with each other's dates. well, we wouldn't have out of respect even if we had been interested. don't know how i got on that sideroad. anyway, i think she said the bottom is black and has a layer of chiffon, full-length. i want to think she said the top is long-sleeved, amber, and sequined. she said that it is not low-cut, so for me not to worry about the mook-mooks. haha. she was in the delivery room with my dh, mom, and me when dd was born. she does not have children. anyway, she is 2 in shorter and 9 lbs lighter than me right now. maybe she can give a better description.

sorry i am so chatty today. can you tell i've not been on much in the last week. thanks again, ladies. i really do appreciate it! you are true gems.

Hi Fulfig!

For the bust you want to do:

Chest Press: Lying on your back with a pillow under your shoulders to raise them up off the floor, put a can in each hand. Starting with elbows bent at your sides and hands infront of your chest, take 4 counts to press the cans straight above your chest. Hold for 2 counts and then take 2 counts to bring back to the starting position. do 2 sets of 12-15. Start with one set and build to 2.

Flys: Lying on your back with a pillow under your shoulders to raise them up off the floor, put a can in each hand. Raise arms above chest with palms facing each other. Take 2 counts to bring elbows down to just above the floor, straight out from shoulders, bent with cans ending at the shoulders, hold for 2 counts then take 2 counts to bring back to starting position. Do 2 sets of 12- 15. Start with one set and build to 2.

Clear as mud, right? I will try to find some pictures if I can!

fullfig 10-15-2003 05:52 AM

thanks, karen. i'm not sure i fully understand though about how and where to position my arms. thanks again!

fullfig 10-15-2003 05:54 AM

karen--uh oh. i just realized that yesterday i typed "crunches and thighs", instead of "presses and flys". my thoughts were scattered as this week has been very busy. sorry for the typo.

supersized 10-15-2003 12:45 PM

The dress is sleeveless. It cuts inward toward neck which has a band to hold it up. Both shoulders are completely exposed. The top of dress is beaded with golden and black beads and amber and golden sequins. The bead work comes down to a slight point in the front. It is a beautiful dress if I do say so myself. Fullfig, you'll be the belle of the ball. Good luck!

I lost a total of 3 pounds last week but will not make my goal of 20 pounds. I've only lost 8 so far. When I set the goal I knew that 20 pounds was pretty unrealistic and that 10 would be more achievable given my low metabolism but decided to go for it anyway.

All of you are doing awesome!

Tippurr 10-15-2003 01:57 PM

It sounds beautiful!

Karla

fullfig 10-15-2003 03:14 PM

hey supersized--i did not realize the dress was sleeveless. you know how i am about showing my arms. rick is excited. he told me that i need to be confident. i'm glad i just found my self-tanner. i guess i'll not only have to get rolling with the bust exercises, but now upper arms too. i'd better get off and get back to the boxes.

y'all are all doing so well. thanks for all of your support.

LindaBC 10-17-2003 01:54 AM

That gown sounds lovely. Don't worry about showing your arms. With all the sparkles, nobody will even look at them or notice that they might be a bit plump. Besides, I think plump upper arms look much nicer than scrawny chicken wing arms.

LindaBC 10-17-2003 02:45 PM

Bringing this back to the top because I noticed Determined Girl posted to Week 6 instead of Week 7.
BTW, good info, Determined.

Jennifer 3FC 10-18-2003 01:54 AM

Sorry I didn't update last week! I've not given up! I had a BAD 9 days while Rob was in Holland. As soon as he got back I asked him if he would please do South Beach with me and he said yes. He knew I was bad while he was gone, and although he only has about 10 pounds to lose, he is eating every meal with me with no cheating. That is one thing I love/hate about him! He is too stubborn to give in, so that really helped me get back on the wagon.

I've lost 4 pounds of my 5 pound goal. I know 5 was small, but I have the metabolism of a sloth! I don't think I'd be doing it if I wasn't walking an hour a day. I manage 4-5 times a week. I am hoping I will pass up my goal, which would be really nice since I made such a wimpy goal!

supersized 10-18-2003 12:18 PM

Fullfig, I think you will look great and you should feel confident because you've down so well so far. You'll look great!

Jennifer, good job for getting back on plan. We all go through rough patches. I should have set my goal more realisticallly. I think our metabolisms are very similar. I've only lost 10 pounds of my 20 pound goal. I'm sure you'll pass your goal as you're back on plan. It's great that you have a husband to keep you on track.

Do you like the South Beach diet better than Atkins? I'm thinking of switching over to it once I reach my goal weight. It seems more doable as a life plan.

I know we don't officially weigh in until next week but I'm excited that I've lost 2 more pounds. This 2 pounds contributed to 10 pound total I mentioned earlier.

Have a great weekend!

Tippurr 10-20-2003 08:08 AM

Good Monday Morning!

Jennifer- Great job, getting back on track! A four pound loss is great. You're lucky that your hubby will do this with you. Mine has diabetes and still fights a low carb regimine.

I bought a book this weekend called the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet. Has anyone heard of it? I don't plan on switching, as Atkins really is working for me, but it is interesting. It might be something someone here would want to look into. You eat two "legal" meals, much like Atkins, but the third meal is a reward meal. You can eat anything you want, but you have to follow the guide lines of two cups of salad, 1/3 protein, 1/3 non-starchy low carb veggies, and 1/3 whatever you want. You can eat as much as you want as long as you hold to this ratio ( if you want seconds on ice cream, you can have it as long as you also have seconds on the veggies and the protein) and you have to finish in one hour. Absolutely no between meal snacks. That's the one that would ruin me. I am a creature of habit and I have to have my 9:00 a.m. snack and my evening snack. There are several different plans, one of which includes one snack a day.

I lost 2 pounds this week, Bringing my total loss to 28 pounds. I have 3 more pounds to go to meet my GPC goal.

fullfig 10-20-2003 10:25 AM

well, i've only dropped .4 this week. i'm disappointed to say the least. i hope to be feeling better tomorrow so i can start exercising again. have been sick since thursday. congrats to those who are losing. we are all doing well as we try to live healthier lives.

Froufy 10-20-2003 10:30 AM

Okay I don't remember what i weighed last week - I just checked - I was 188.4 and today I am at 187...so 1.4 down since last week. Two more pounds to go for the GPC (185) and I think it will be close!

Froufy:D

jen519 10-20-2003 12:13 PM

Hi there.

Aren't we all amazing working so hard???

Fullfig, I know what you mean about showing off the arms. I'm the same way, but I'm with Linda. Scrawny chicken arms and legs don't look good at all. I was checking out your stats and I envision a woman who is "statuesque",not fat. No wonder hubby's getting excited. You really will be the "belle of the ball"!

I'm down 2 pounds this week. I notice that I'm a little disappointed that it's not more. What a pain I am sometimes. I remember back last summer when I was on a low-fat, low-cal plan and 1)Couldn't stay on it , 2)was LUCKY to lose 2 pounds a week when I didi stay on it. What am I worried about? Besides I've made my weight goal for this challenge. It's the excercise goal I need to focus on.

After hearing what people had to say and watching the online informercial, I decided to buy the Body Flex system. My updated goal is to do 15 minutes a day, every day from the time the thing arrives (tomorrow) until the end of the challenge. That's just enough time to form a habit, right? Wish me luck

Jen

fullfig 10-20-2003 01:07 PM

thanks, jen. supersized let the dress out to its original size 18 last night. when she bought it, she was wearing a c cup. she is currently a dd. we decided to let it out to find out if i (ddd) would be able to fit. she said that it fits her perfectly right now. she is 10 lbs less than me right now. she said i might have to take out the padding in the bust though. so, now i'm really excited knowing that it will fit. i started the fat fast today to jumpstart me again. i think if i can be down ten more lbs by the ball on the 8th, i should be in good shape.

i agree, we are all doing well.

KarenW 10-20-2003 02:25 PM

WOO HOO!! I am down another pound this week! For a total ofd 11.5 for the challenge! only 4 more to go!! :):)

supersized 10-20-2003 03:36 PM

Good job girls! I started fatfast with fullfig today. I've got 10 mmore pounds to go to meet my gpc goal. I've order teh bodyflex with the bar but it hasn't arrived yet.

LindaBC 10-20-2003 09:21 PM

No changes on the scale or the tape measure for me this week. Still, my clothes are feeling looser and I feel more toned so something is working.
Congratulations on all of you for hanging in.
Tippur, I think most of us who have been at 3FC for a long time, myself included, have given the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet a fair trial. It worked well for some but it sure didn't work for me.

davebecca 10-20-2003 10:49 PM

Here I go again, Down the one I found last week, Back to 204. Two weeks left and 4 pounds to go. Was down to 202 a couple days ago, Need more exercise and more water. I've rechecked what I'm eating and that should be ok.

Here's to next week.

SW 219
CW 204
GPC under 200

barbmarie 10-21-2003 02:19 AM

Same for me Linda. No change on the scale, but I can take off my jeans without unbuttoning them. Darn scale.........

fullfig 10-21-2003 05:09 AM

i'm changing my loss for the week from .4 to 2.6, as i saw another 2.2 lb loss this morning. woohoo.

have a great day all!

Froufy 10-21-2003 11:39 AM

For those doing the fat fast - it seems more than once? Be VERY CAREFUL - this is not to be taken lightly and can really mess up your metabolism if used too often. Please read:

http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthrea...light=fat+fast

and also:

http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthrea...light=fat+fast

Please be careful!

Froufy

LindaBC 10-21-2003 04:58 PM

Froufy, that was a very interesting and informative link. Thanks for posting it.

My scale showed a loss this morning but I'm not going to record it. I'll wait until next Monday's WI before I weigh again. Meanwhile, I'm going to be extra careful this week. We are getting close to the end of this challenge. Which reminds me, time to start a new weekly thread. See you on the Great Pumpkin Challenge Week 8 thread.
