Thumbs down New here, can I introduce myself?

Hi, my name is Debby. I've tried Atkins a few times in the past but never was able to stick with it. This time will be different though.

I'm 10 days into induction. I've lost 21 lbs so far but most of that was water. I don't know why but prior to starting my legs and feet were so bloated ... they looked like balloons. I have an awful lot of weight to lose ... an awful lot ... so I plan to stay on induction for a while.

So far ... so good.

BTW, I'm suprised by how many negative responses I get when I say I'm following Atkins. I'm too new into the program to be able to respond to them.

Welcome, ScooterDeb, and congratulations on your loss! . This is a fun and safe place where nobody disses anybody's eating plan or they suffer the wrath of Ruth and a pecking from the other Chicks. You'd think folks would have smartened up by now, wouldn't you. I just tell people I am watching my carb intake and they shut up.

Please join us on the daily but also feel free to start a new thread on any topic.

Welcome Deb!!! We LOVE new folks here. I live in a small rural town and believe me when I first started talking low carb I got lots of smirks. Now , half of my colleagues where I teach are doing low carb. Congrats on your weight loss so far. Hope we "see" you here on the board and get to know you better.

Angry WELCOME DEBBY!!

Sounds like you're doing great! Keep up the good work. I am still on induction (week 5) and enjoying it immensely.

I have yet to tell co-workers that I am on Atkins...I keep a full jelly bean dish on my desk and everyone stops by to visit for a sugar fix. I am proud to say that I have not had a single bean in the last 5 weeks (if I have only one I KNOW what will happen! ).

I get a few stares in the cafetaria line up when I ask for my burger without a bun, or my tuna salad sandwich without the bread,....just smile and say I'm low carbing if anyone asks, but most don't ask, and have been very accommodating.

My favorite is actually being able to go to restaurants and EAT without feeling guilty or deprived. Outback and Red Lobster are my current favorites.

Good luck with the plan!

Froufy

Welcome to the forum! There is a ton of support here and lots of information

I think all of us at one point in time have faced the stares and criticisms and I just say "doctor's orders"and that shushes peple up pretty fast. That is the truth for me--my medical condition actually calls for me to follow a low carb diet!

Welcome to the Coop!

I just tell nosy people that my body doesn't metabolize sugar. Which is the truth - because no one's body metabolizes sugar, it's not a "real" food. The sugar lobbyists want to hide that fact, I'm sure. I've also used the "I'm allergic to wheat products" excuse when confronted by nasty nay-sayers.

Welcome Debby!

I'm new here, too!! Just joined on Monday, and, so far, the support is amazing!!!

I'm 38, married and the mother of a wonderful 15 month old daughter. Between hitting 30 and childbirth, I have about 100 lbs to lose. I've already lost 40 since mid-September and feel good. I have my days where I miss the carbs (I am such a carb junkie), but it does get much easier!!!

From one Newbie to another... welcome!
