Default Today Is Father's Day! So...........

My Dad has been gone since 1998 but I still always think of him on this day.

He was a very good Dad who taught me many things, particularly about nature. We spent summers on The Island and my best memories are of walking the woods on the mainland with Dad. I was about 4 and he would make me notice landmarks so we could get back to the boat safely. I was being woods-proofed and have a great sense of direction still. He taught me how to find blackberries and tiny wild strawberries called "sow's tits" and to identify trees and birds. What a wonderful start in life!

I love you Dad and I miss you.

Shall we post some good memories of our fathers or other important father figures in our life?

Ruth what a good idea.

I wasn't very close to my Dad growing up, but my Dad's Dad, my Grandfather was the one who raised me, he and Grandma.

My Grandfather was a very uneducated man, but I learned so much from him. He was uneducated, but so very smart. What he lacked in formal training he made up for in social training.

He was a man of honor. Kind to all. Loved babies and little children. If you came to his very humble home and went out the door hungry, it was your fault! He fed everyone!! He was hungry as a child during the great depression and his goal in life was to make sure everyone who came in contact with him was fed

He passed away on March 17th, 1993. I still miss him and I am so, so glad my children had a chance to meet this wonderful person.

Now, my Dad and I have a wonderful relationship. It took him getting ill for me to finally get close to he and my Mom.

I look like my Dad and it was never more noticable than when I was in the hospital ill, my husband told me many, many times how much I look like my Father.

My Dad also is a very kind man, how could he not be, being raised by my Grandfather.

Dad and Mom are retired to Florida and leading a wonderful life.

Happy Fathers Day Dad! I love you!!

I, like many children, don't have a father. However, there was one special man that I always looked up to and to this day regret not acting more kindly toward him in his final days. This man is my ex step-father's father--my grandpa. Although he may not be related by blood, he might as well have been the world to me. He was kind and thoughtful, a man of true character. Honest and generous to a fault, loved by many and missed by everyone. he had a special place inhis heart for me and it shone through every day. He died when I was 14 of lung cancer. I regret not holding him and hugging him more as he was failing but I suppose most children react strangley when confronted by an illness.

Love you grandpa, I always will...
