Ruth what a good idea.
I wasn't very close to my Dad growing up, but my Dad's Dad, my Grandfather was the one who raised me, he and Grandma.
My Grandfather was a very uneducated man, but I learned so much from him. He was uneducated, but so very smart. What he lacked in formal training he made up for in social training.
He was a man of honor. Kind to all. Loved babies and little children. If you came to his very humble home and went out the door hungry, it was your fault! He fed everyone!! He was hungry as a child during the great depression and his goal in life was to make sure everyone who came in contact with him was fed
He passed away on March 17th, 1993. I still miss him and I am so, so glad my children had a chance to meet this wonderful person.
Now, my Dad and I have a wonderful relationship. It took him getting ill for me to finally get close to he and my Mom.
I look like my Dad and it was never more noticable than when I was in the hospital ill, my husband told me many, many times how much I look like my Father.
My Dad also is a very kind man, how could he not be, being raised by my Grandfather.
Dad and Mom are retired to Florida and leading a wonderful life.
Happy Fathers Day Dad! I love you!!
