Question Dr. Atkins Foods

Hi, I just received Dr. Atkins' catalog with lots of wonderful looking low-carb items given, but am wondering before I buy any, if someone can tell me what they use and how they like it. Really hate to spend the money if I won't enjoy the product. Thanks. Caci

I have tried some of the products and they're pretty good (although really expensive!). The "crunchers" are good, most of the muffins are good (especially the chocolate chocolate chip ones) .

My latest extravaganze is the hot fudge, I melt a tablespoon or two and dip strawberries in it for dessert - yum, yum!!

Some of the others have been duds. They had some "all cheese" crunchy thing that I tried and it was inedible. I got the strawberry lemonade tin, thinking it would be good for summer. The lemonade is delicious but scale is everything. The picture makes it look like a big container, which would be worth the price, but in reality it was this tiny little box that will barely make a liter or two all told!!

GNC has some of them in stock so you can try them without having to pay the shipping charges, etc. I also buy some of them at www.vitacost.com which seems to have better prices but not all the products that the atkins website has.

Good luck,

I tried the Atkins Crunchers (the "chips") and I thought they were pretty gross, but a lot of the bars of good, the candy is good, the blueberry muffins are yummmmmy, and the shakes are really good too. And I agree with nasus that they're also very nice frozen.

Thanks for all your answers. Maybe I will try the muffins (I am really hungry for something besides eggs), and will also look at other website for the products. The shipping is what is so high in my opinion--no matter how little you buy, the shipping is still over $7.00, and I hat eo buy a bunch of things and then not like them.
Thanks again. Caci

I refuse to pay that much money for any product, no matter what it tastes like or how well it's supposed to help my diet. I just stick with the health aisle at WalMart:

Pure DeLite chocolates, $0.97/bar or $5.19 for 6 bars instead of the outrageous $2.50/bar and $40 to $50 for 24 bars like other online and local stores (CVS). Even the Atkins stuff is cheaper at WalMart than in the catalog. They occasionally have two for one sales on the Atkins peanut butter cups and shakes.

Hi Sean, I'll have to look at Wal-Mart for the Pure Delight Chocolates. Do you know who they are made by. I know our little Wal-Mart here doesn't have anything like that, but I hope next week to take a trip to the new Super Wal-Mart which is about 30 miles from here and I didn't even know they carried Atkins, although last time I was there, I was struggling along on low-fat and getting nowhere. Hope you are doing well on Atkins and thanks for the information. Caci

The URL for Pure De-Lite Products:

http://www.puredeliteproducts.com/

You can order direct from them but I have no idea about pricing. Be careful about ordering over the Net because most places tack on a "perishable goods" charge of $15 or $20 to ship chocolate products in dry ice.

But yeah, the Pure De-Lite dark chocolate is 0 net carbs and tastes better than Hershey's Special Dark. Most of the other flavors (mint chocolate, chocolate almond, etc.) are 3 net carbs. I experiment with foods every once in a while and did an unscientific test with the dark chocolate...I ate four bars before going to bed, my weight loss chart never wavered and I was still in ketosis/lipolysis the next morning (ultra bright pink stick). Since that test, I don't feel guilty at all having one of the dark chocolate bars for dessert each night.

Check in the health and supplements aisle and then dig around for the foods. While looking for Atkins and Pure De-Lite, also check out EAS low carb bars. Some are really good, some are an acquired taste, some are nasty. The Chocolate Brownie and the Cookies and Cream are awesome. Chocolate Peanut Butter is alright...very tasty but kind of chalky. Any fruity stuff like Lemon Cheesecake is downright nasty and leaves a chemical aftertaste.
