Question Atkins Questions

Hello! I am new to Atkins, I started on Monday, but I have a few questions. I have been kinda reading what everyone has said about Atkins to make sure alll my bases were covered and this is a great website. Okay, first, how do you know when you go into Ketosis? Are there any signs? And about how long before anyone lost any weight? I realize that I wont lose weight right away, but i am just trying to get a general idea. And last of all. I havent started to excercise yet. I figured Id do a week on Atkins first and then Id start to excercise too. But my muscles are sore! I take a multi-vitamin daily and a calcium as well as vitamin e, but I am wondering if maybe I am still lacking in a vitamin. id appreciate any help yall offer me!!

thanks,
Chelle

Achy muscles? Take a potassium/magnesium supplement and you'll feel much better. You should show a loss your first week (if not your first few days). As for true ketosis, they can be detected with ketostix (pee strips that can be bought at your local pharmacy) Mostly, I rely on my stinky dragon breath and smelly skin. let's just say I put the mouth wash and body wash people out of business!

Hi Chelle and Welcome!

I agree with pooky, add your mag/pot supplement, and make sure you drink all your water. I used to get sore muscles too, and would be very tired after climbing the stairs. Also make sure you eat your quota of veggies...this is very important. Skip a salad, and have a bowl of broccoli instead or brussel sprouts.

Weight loss happens pretty fast (usually) on the first 2 weeks. Good luck to you!!

There is a very clever chicky named Sue who I hope will pop in and explain the sore muscle thing to you better than I did.

Robin

Chelle, have you read the book? It's very helpful and also has some good starter recipes in it. There are also some excellent low carb recipes right here and also at other low carb websites.
