Default Back On Induction

Im back on induction. Unfortunately the last three weeks have not been good for me eating wise. I graduated my CNA class, with the highest grade in the class, and have started all my LVN prerequisites and have started my General Ed classes for my BSN. The last few weeks I have fallen into my old eating habits of grabbing whatever is on campus, and not paying attention to carbs, and Ill tell you Im paying for it. Not only are my pants not loose, but are getting tighter, my anxiety has gone up, and I am irritable, and tired and have no energy at all. Before, it was great, Id go to bed at about 10 and wake up at 6 and be rearing to go..now I have such a hard time waking up in the morning. Im bloated, and my skin that was clear is now broken out.

I feel so much better when Im on plan and doing well. Not only does my body feel better, but my mind works better. So, today Im back on induction. Ive done well so far, 44 oz of water, and 2 eggs for breakfast, bacon, and a piece of cheese. I also need to get back on the water kick. I have had so many diet sodas in the past few weeks that I probably pee Diet Pepsi!

Hopefully now Ill have more time to get back and post more. I no longer have my 14 hour days, every day, they are only about 8 hour days now, which is much more manageable. I just dont know what to do with myself..haha

Hope you all have a great OP Week!

Glad to see you back. I'm back on Induction again too after a long hiatus trying other things (not to successfully I might add), so we are all in this together.

Default New to Atkins

HI! I just started on the Atkins diet Monday. I have never tried it before, but my cousin started doing the Atkins diet on March 4, and as of last Sunday he had lost 20 pounds. He looked great, so I asked him about it, and then decided to give it a try. My husband is trying it also. I bought the Atkins for Life book, and then realized it was more for just maintenance. So I have some questions about the Induction Phase. Could anyone help me? First of all, is diet Soda allowed during the induction phase? My cousin says he limits himself to just one a day. Is this necessary? I have a very hard time drinking enough water, and I would like to be able to break it up a little with Diet Soda if possible. Also, I bought some "low carb" bars and then after eating one, I noticed it said total carbohydrates 19grams! ON the front of the package it said 3grams impact carbs. I was a little confused. My cousin said he limits his carb intake to just 5 grams a day, but he said he eats one of those bars every morning for breakfast.
If anyone could help me, or offer support, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!
Teri

Diet soda causes insulin spikes, so it's probably a no-no. You should stick to decaf, unsweetened tea or coffee, and water. Your induction is to clean out your body of all the stuff it's been storing, so you should stick mainly to meats, eggs, veggies, cheese. Try to keep your carbs around 20, I think 5 may be too low. As far as the bars, the 19 grams of carb are the total carb. They subtract the fiber and glycerol alcohol grams, that's how they come up with 3. Good luck to you!

Atkins or other low carb bars are not usually recommended on Induction as they can inhibit weight loss. Better stick to the foods listed OK for induction in the book. You do have the Atkins book?

Basic Atkins diet .......meat, veggies, eggs and cheese. Stick close to this on induction. The soda's and bars will stall your weight loss. Many of us here have learned this the hard way

Ive moved into "ongoing weight loss" in atkins and have added some fruit to my diet, but I still stay away from the bars and diet sodas......they just taste too good, and make me want more.

Good Luck to you tette, and welcome!!

Diet sodas are the reason Robin is going to be a size 6 soon and I'm not. I know I must give up the diet Mt. Dew, but I can't. This must be how a drug addict feels. I know something is bad for me but I'm powerless to stop. I did go 22 hours yesterday before giving in. Withdrawal was horrible. Migraine all day. Someone needs to invent a caffine patch.

lol Dyan, size 6?? Last time I was there I think I was 11 Do you drink coffee normally? [before atkins] I didnt give up my coffee, and luckily for me diet sodas give me chest pains when I drink too much. So that certainly helps!! I do enjoy a diet vanilla coke once in a while

Nope, Mt. Dew is my only vice. I know that if I gave it up I'd lose more weight. I'm going to have to make that choice soon, to be smaller or be caffinated, but I'm holding out for now. Mule-headed? Stubborn? If you look up those words in the dictionary you'll see my picture.

Default Thanks for the info!

I had no idea the diet sodas were so bad. I bought the Atkins for life book, and it is geared more for maintenance. It does not go into detail about the induction period which is why I was not sure. So far I am very happy about this diet. There is so much controversy though! I figure if I get regular check-ups then it should be fine. I am having surgery on Monday, and I'm not sure what restrictions they will want to place on my diet. IF they happen to place me on a liquid diet, would broth be alright? OR will I just have to start back all over again? I currently weigh 226. I started this diet on Monday weighing in at 230. I am very pleased to see a drop in the scale so quickly!
Thanks again for the information!

When I'm not sure if something will stall my weight loss, I bust out the ketosis strips. (I am *so* not an expert at this, obviously) I love them anyway, because they keep me motivated. Purple's my new favorite color.

I love induction, even tho I don't really like meat and cheese very much. It's so nice to see results.

1 day of induction down, a zillion more to go. I stayed OP yesterday. And today I am only going to have 1 Diet Code Red Mt. Dew. It's 99% gone already and then it's water for me. To make sure of this, I didn't bring any money with me to work. No debit card, no cash, not even any change. (I don't see myself writing a check for a diet Dew, so I did keep the checkbook).
