Thanks for sharing the article Jennifer! I am very excited that more on low carb diets is being published. I still find so very many people with a highly skewed view of what it is like to be on a low carb diet. One nurse I was speaking with just this week went off on a tirade. It was interesting to knock him down point by point, but I think the medical community as a whole is still very anti- low- carb.

I'd like to see some long term studies, and with diets that embrace some of the modified low-carb standards. After all, what most of us are saying is that the insulin jolt from starchy or sugary foods is what is hurting the dieters on low- fat diets.

Thanks, Jennifer. I think I'll copy the article into out FAQ section.
My doctor, by the way, is finally becoming pro-LC. Now I need to work on the silly dietician!

My doctor started Atkins a week ago and has lost 5 lbs. She decided to do it after seeing my success. She is very happy with it!

One thing she told me is that when we eat low carb, high protien, the body becomes more acidic. This can (in some people) lead to the formation of kidney stones (which I don't think I ever want to have, EVER). Anyway she said a simple way to combat this is to drink hot water with lemon juice 2x per day. It will help to alkalize the body, and also is great for the liver.

Tilly, do you think the hot water with lemon would be ok with hot tea? I think I could do that much easier than straight hot water!

I didn't think that that article was particularly pro-low carb. It seems to me that even though they have seen the results, they still don't believe it. They still think the low carb plan can't be stuck to long term. They still doubt its long term healthfulness. They don't seem to be willing to admit that it really works and they seem to be very reluctant to test it properly on more people over a long term. Stubborn, stubborn, stubborn.

True, they weren't exactly over-joyed, but it was nice to see it published that the low carbers lost double the weight as the low fatters, and that they didn't have more water loss than the low fatters. That was the part that excited me, I have seen it written so often 'you'll gain it back quicker because it is mostly water.'

But yeah, you are right...stubborn!

I am glad to see that low carbing is getting the credit this time. And you're right, seems they don't believe what they see. I think I know why we all have such a hard time sticking OP--there are few products on the market that support our lifestyle so that we are forced to concoct our own recipes. Just think if the diet food industry suddenly went low carb? Wouldn't life be easier?
