  • Happy Labor Day !!
Gee Sue, you can I could've had early morning coffee! I've been up since 3:30 again! I'm so glad you enjoy your job!

Toryah~I think it's a man thing! I always enjoy cleaning my house while dh and ds's are gone. I get to enjoy it that way up until the minute they walk back thru the door!

LindaBC~Way to go resisting all those goodies at the open house! I laughed when I read about your embarrassing moment! Happened to me with about $200 worth of groceries. The thought of having to spend another hour shopping was worse than the embarrassment tho!

Not alot on the agenda today. It may be a holiday but DH informed me he has quite a bit of typing for me today. sigh No regular hours with home based businesses.

Need more coffee ~ I'll be back!
  • Good morning! It's Labour Day in Canada too but this is getting ridiculous! I was finally on top of the peaches and tomatoes and a friend arrived at my door with a bushel of pears! They are those small greenish hard ones that you can't eat so I'll either be making loads of chutney or they will go to the compost pile!

My friend from Wisconsin, LindaW, is coming for a visit on the 21st so I need to sort of get my house in order. It usually looks fine but just don't open a drawer, closet or the freezer! Fly Lady is going to be busy! (Toryah, can you fly over when you get your cleaning done? ) I found the list I made to get done over the summer and .....well, nothing got crossed off! Oh well - a good friend doesn't care about your housekeeping abilities.

We checked out the fall raspberries on the meadow walk this morning - they are ready and are just gorgeous. Raspberries are low GI and will probably be part of the next weeks menues - if Hershey doesn't eat them off the bushes first!

I'm off to the basement to sort out more canning jars. My cousin is bringing me a boatload from The Island after lunch today. They are the old-fashioned kind which I probably can't use but my 90 year old Aunt wants me to have them. She used to preserve everything! I guess I'll do a few jars in the old bottles for her as a thank you. I hope to heck she likes pear chutney!

    Stay on track, Chicklettes!
  • Happy Labor and Labour Day To All!!!!
Morning Everyone! The DH and DS are still sleeping so I get a chance for a quiet moment at the computer. Once school starts those moments are TOO infrequent! We have had a busy weekend. Friday night was DS's home opener for the varsity football season. They won a close one by a score of 14-6!! Even better--no injuries on the homefront. That is always my main goal. We had 8 couples and their football sons and younger siblings over for drinks and food after the game. It was a lot of fun--cant' remember when I have been up til 12:30 in recent years. (how boring am I???)Seems the idea has caught on as others are now planning gatherings for future Friday nights.: Saturday was filled with errand running and then yesterday DS and DH went out for what is probably the last golf outing of the year and then we went to a friends house for a huge "tropical" themed party. It was for kids and adults and was a lot of fun. We came home much earlier much to the chagrin of my DS. Today reality sets in with homework and DS is back to football practice later this afternoon. Tomorrow he has a Fresh/Soph football game too. I hate that he has to do double duty, but that is life in a small town. As for me I have eaten a bit better over the weekend and have gotten in my 3 mile Walk Aways the last 2 days. Have plans to get it done again today. It is amazing what you can do when you have time huh?? I just flat out need to start making the time during the school week.

Okay, that is it for me--hope to be able to pop in more this week. You all take care!
  • Ahh,
Monday morning again! We slept in, it is raining and cold! I want summer back…lol the heat and all.

Kids start school in 2 days. We are going out to breakfast sometime later and I want to go to the bookstore. I have read 4 books in the last week and am on the last one. I need a back-up! DH is NOT playing golf today. I think the only day this summer he isn’t either going to work or playing.
Jiff ? did you sleep well in your new jammies? Our Ames is going out too. I think I will make a stop on Wed. little man has 2 hours of school and older boy has a full day. I will have to fill the day somehow, and little man needs a little pillow for school rest time. And I am sure there is some kind of bargain I can’t live without!

    Have a good day ladies,
    -L
  • hey there
I posted about an hour ago and our power went out in the middle! no thunder, it's just been raining all night- but the electric is back on now. Shucks, I was just getting ready to light candles and think about what I could cook on the grill for breakfast!

a few flylady items this morning, then free for the day. we'll probably grill at DS tonight, so I can focus on prep for the week to come. Ugh, when school starts, it changes my commute in the morning and evening from 45 minutes, to 1 1/4 hours. I love it when the teachers are off! The summer is a gift, and the rest of the year is terrible driving here-NYC commuting is awful anyhow, but when school is out there's a reprive of sorts.

So planning is the name of the game for the weekends to come. Clothes and food. Clothes and food.

But today is for relaxing. So enjoy, chickies!

    have some fun today!
    dottie
  • Just got my first cup of coffee, and getting ready to ride my bike. Sue: myclub is open today, but no classes scheduled, so I PLAN to go swim and do water aerobics on my own, but that is harder for me. I do better if there is a class.
  • good morning everyone!!!
    and those to come...

i'm with you, dottie, i'm dreading the commute when everyone comes back tomorrow and wednesday. right now, i have a leisurely half hour drive, with a stop for coffee, but starting tomorrow, i'll be lucky to get there in 45 minutes!!! without a stop for coffee... although i travel at the tail end of the rush hour [thank goodness!!!] that's never a guarantee of success..

and ruth, mom used to make a fabulous pear chutney with crystallized ginger... and i think some almonds. it was just divine. good luck!!!

and linda gets the award for resisting all that yummy stuff. not sure i could. and linda in MA... have fun at ames!! such a zoo. the one down here had lots of small pillows yesterday, but who knows how long they'll be around!!

and annie, so it's off to the regular school-sports-party routine for you!!! what a nice thing!

sue, i think about you every morning on my walk. you are such an inspiration to me. you have a family, a job, a business, and you still make the time to take care of yourself.

toryah, make a strengthening pot of tea. you're wearing me out already!!!

[[[[[[[[janice]]]]]]]]]] please come to joisy... and give dawn a hug from me...

today, it's off to the mall for more jammies, and a secret pal gift for mom to give her 'victim,' a blind 14-year old girl with an incredible gift for music. this girl lives very much in the seeing world, is an excellent student, and always perfectly dressed. i think we'll go to Claires, that teenybopper haven, and get some hair doo-dads for the start of school. or a piece of jewelry or something.

maybe peachie can join us. she's probably being BOY-ed to death, but at least i can ask...

hope ya'll have a great day... and a restful one..
  • Good Morning!
To celebrate Labor day, I got up and cleaned my house. OP so far with some egg salad for B. It's sunny here, so I think I'll go crash on the patio with some ice water.
  • Just a quick in and out--Miree is bugging me now and I have to run--have a great holiday everyone!
  • I can't believe I haven't been able to really get here all weekend -- we have the grandbabies WITHOUT THE PARENTS! - and I am totally exhausted.... they're going home tonight (if I survive!) - i'll try to get back here tonight to visit w/you all - if not, (like if I fall asleep by 7 pm!!) I'll catch you tomorrow..... doing good on food, notsogood on water - excercise: does chasing after a 16 month old who learned how to climb UP stairs count????????
  • Pouring rain here today but I went to the pool anyway and put in an hour. I basically water jog in the deep end but also swim a couple of lengths as well. I figure that's using a different set of muscles than the upright water jogging.
Hubby doesn't believe in Labour Day so he's off working. I DO believe in Labour Day, so all I've really done is a couple of loads of laundry and made a pot of op soup for myself. Nice that's it's cool enough to do so. I'm looking around my house and thinking I need a steam cleaner for the high traffic areas of carpet but using the darned things is so hard on my back so I will probably call Sears to send a guy out do do it. They even move furniture which is nice.
Ruth, I'm so jealous that you will have LindaWI visiting you. I wish I could be there too. Have you decided not to come out my way after all this fall? If you are, try to make it either before Oct 7 or after Oct 15 because that's when #2 daughter from Scotland will be here. Otherwise, I have a room with your name on it.
When is your hand surgery, btw?
