    Pooky I hate the thought of the cost of my cable modum, but for me I need that fast service I would die if i did not have it. so maybe some of the phone line high speed stuff but they seem to be about 10$ more. The service i need for the kids, we had so much trouble with tryng to get on our ial up last time it was not funny we went 2 weeks with out eing able toget on.

    well tonight will be better and less busy so i wil see you girls tonight!!
  • Good morning, Sweeties.

    Sue, thanks for the coffee. Mine tastes fine so I must have got a clean cup. DH has the bad habit or rinsing out mugs and putting them back. Then I grab a "clean" mug and discover dregs or rings! Yick!

    I think I have a touch of the flu. Felt rotten yesterday morning but went out to lunch anyhow. Felt fine when I ate. Felt rotten in mid-afternoon but felt fine when I ate supper. Can I use this as an excuse to constantly snack? Lunch was wonderful! We sat on the terrace overlooking the river and had elegant food that was almost too pretty to eat. I wrote out a few more cheques at the Office and then came home for a nap.

    This morning Sally and Nancy, two cottagers from PA, are coming for coffee and muffins. We have been doing this for years. They are the ones who think I'm quaint! Maybe I should put on a long skirt and shawl this morning.

    After they leave I will tackle more of those darn weeds. I am making progress. You can actually see the pepper and tomato plants in their rows. My neighbour Liz has volunteered to weed whip some of the hopeless spots as I no longer let DH near my garden with any type of machinery! My darn shoulder is still giving me grief so the weed whip is out for me - it just doesn't work when I try to do it left handed. I did haul some grapevines out of the treeline last night. Martha would make wreathes, I suppose - might be a good thing for her to do when she ends up in jail.

    Well, have to walk up to the Church to get my coffee maker. I took it in on Sunday and forgot to bring it home.

    Catch you later.
  • Good Morning Everyone, the cold front finally made it to the deep south!!
    Sil, I love your quote about SHDH yesterday!!

    Sherrie, how I remember those first days of school when my kids were little, but we as Mom's do survive. Only our daughter is still in school, she will be a junior this year and school starts next Monday.

    Did anyone take pictures from the chick meet on Sunday? If you did we would love to see them.

    Pooky hope you get your problems with the cable company ironed out, after using a cable modem and than going back to dial up you will feel like you have stepped back 10 years.

    peachie you didn't get sunburned yesterday did you? Hope you had a great day at the beach.

    Anyone shop at Lane Bryant? If you do, go to their web site www.lanebryant.com and print out a coupon for $25.00 off a purchase of $75.00 or more. You may need to sign up on the site, but for a good coupon I think it is worth it.

    Need more coffee. Have a splendid day all!!

  • things were better
    for Alvin yesterday, he was not so heavily sedated, and his doctor said his renal function was back to normal and that his blood pressure had stabilized, so they were callin his conditioon stable. That's better than critical in my book!!!.

    I have to keep in mind that even though I'm stressed, junk food is not the answer!!! I gained all my weight because of "trauma eating" When I was 28 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a mastecomy (that's all they knew to do back then) and gaing about 50 pounds during my recovery. About 10 years later my DS#1 had a sever head injury from a car accident. He was in a coma for 8 days, intensive care a week longer, regular hospital about 3 weeks, and rehab hospital about another month. all in all he was in the hospital 3 months and I gained another 50 or 60 pounds. It's those 100 pounds I've been fighting for the last 20 years!!! It's so easy to grab a candy bar or something from the vending mahines when all you are doing is sitting and waiting, but I KNOW I have to stay away from them. I was really good yesterday, I brought my roast beef to eat from home, and plenty of ice and water, well my sister comes up to visit me an brings me a stuffed potatoe and peach cobbler. What do you think I ate? I had already eaten the roast beef, so I had two lunches!!! Then last night someone from the church brought me over supper, and what was it? Chicken and rice you get the picture. So this time I'm going in knowing the dangers, so maybe I won;t do too much damage.

    The good side is that the health club I belong to is on the campus of this hospital, so if the doctor takes my stitches out of my knee tomorrow, then I can stop by and exercise when the stress builds up like it has been, instead of eating. Sound like a plan?

    Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers.
  • Good Morning everyone!

    I am sooo sympathetic to parents leaving their kids to go to the first day of school--should have seen me when Miree went to daycare for the first time! I could barely function...oh my, what it takes to be a mother! I even have her first day of daycare picture framed and beside my desk!

    Barb, I am so glad that Alvin is improving and equally glad that you aren't stress eating! Can't help what others bring you hon, but you can eat you low carb munchies and "save" what others bring you and dispose of it later (or pawn it off on someone else!)

    Deb and Sue, if I had a choice of high speed or cable, I would go high speed right now. Pretty much we are at a stalemate between us and the cable company and we're the big losers in this. I agree that I don't want to lose the cable, but the demands they are making are outrageous. This has been going on now for 3 months and in intense negotiations to resolve the issue to no avail. So it looks like we're moving on...

    Lots of cleanup for me to do today since I was at my gran's yesterday. Tomorrow is shopping day so that means today is account reconciling--great, my favourite time of the month

    I'm also suffering a bit here too--Ithink I'm going to have to make an appointment with my doc and talk to him about the Metformin. I have been experiencing intense diarrhea and I've narrowed it down to the Metformin. I have to say that I haven't been like this at all on the meds before but now it seems my body is saying--enough! Wonder what my doc will say ? Jennifer, any advice?

    Have a good one everyone!
  • GOOD morning, glories! (gee, I just love saying that )

    Today looks to be a fabulous day....... the sun is shining and a delightful cool breeze is blowing...... a couple of pretty puffy comic-book type clouds in the sky...... get the drift???? ahhhhhh... summer "daze".....

    Well, yesterday was supposed to be my day "off", so I was going to handle IRS stuff? As I was on my way out the door to the IRS, phone range.... someone was sick, could I work? Well, I will NEVER say no, since I am per diem and only work when called, AND I WANT THEM TO CALL!!! .. so I said I would be there as soon as I could after my appointment. Fortunately for me, I was done at the IRS quickly (good news/bad news kinda thing) - and got to work by 11:45.... so I got in almost 6 hours of work. Today I'm scheduled to go in at 11.. unfortunately there are only 3 patients on the schedule...... if there are NO paperwork/chart holdups, I'll be lucky to get 2 hours of work! For THIS I have to get dressed and in the car????? Well, it's better than no work at all, I guess
    Sue, - the coffee was great. May I please have another cup?

    Ruth, - my shdh rinses the mug w/COLD water and leaves it in the drainboard as if it's washed, so I guess I'm in the same boat as you - when I see it, I pick it up and put it in the dishwasher! Oh yes, PLEASE wear the shawl and long skirt, and then take a picture!!!
    Debkay, - yes, I took a couple of pics, but forgot to bring them to the 1-hour photo place..... I'm gonna TRY to remember to drop them off on my way to work today.... then, if my scanner is working (a BIG if!!) I will post ... the one of Jif in front of the counter at Veniero's is a "MUST SEE" if it only comes out!

    Barbg, - ahhhh, you've been so much in my thoughts..... I'm glad to see that Alvin is doing ok -- you're right, stable is MUCH better than critical! Pooky had a really good idea about the food... and your plan for working off stress at the gym is a great one! You GO, GIRL!!!

    Pooky, - about that "1st day of school" picture - my daughters are 31 and 27 yrs old...... I have photos of the first day of school for each of them from EACH YEAR OF SCHOOL... up to and including their first day away at college!!!!!!! Of course, I am a really lousy mother - each first day of school I CELEBRATED!!

    Well, I better have breakfast, shower and get dressed...... have a great day, everyone!
  • Good Morning Ladies

    Barb~I'm so glad that Alvin is showing improvement. That's a very good sign. As far as the stress eating goes, I know you are a strong women because you have been through some very difficult times and made it through. Be strong and don't give in (too muc) to that comfort food. I'll keep you and Alvin in my prayers.

    Debkay~How is your Dad doing? You are right, it is glorious outside this morning. The breeze is wonderful! I had a cup of coffee outside on the deck this morning and it was wonderful listening to all the birds and watching them and the butterflys flying about. When the kids are back in school and it cools off, you must come over I need to drive into Snellville today to go to Sam's to stock up on some things

    Ruth~I'm so sorry but Martha will not have time to make wreaths out of your grapevines because she will be too busy making doillies out of bright orange fabric while in jail.
    Hope you feel better soon. I think your body is saying "I need a rest ! ! !".

    SamsG~~I'm glad that you were able to get some work in. I know what it's like to be on call, as I did agency work for a few years. I'm with you on the school thing

    To all the ladies who are sad at school starting: This too will pass!

    Sue~How is the sewing coming along?
    ~~~Sil
  • Afternoon Ladies! It is finally a LOVELY day here in IL thank the good Lord! Yesterday started out warm, but turned refreshing. Last night we grilled out and DH and DS and I played Bocci ball in the back yard and had a pretty nice evening. DH started his new stress meds this a.m. and it was a good thing--his bookkeeper is interviewing for a higher paying job on Friday and the company has STILL not replaced his 2nd man who left at the end of June!! He is about ready to throw in 20 some years, give them the keys and walk. I know how he feels, but this would NOT be a good thing for us. He was going to call his higher ups this afternoon and see what was up. As for me, I'm still fat and exercising and trying hard. DS and I went to the "Big City" today to get some groceries and he had a $30 Walmart card from my DH's mom for his birthday that has been burning a hole in his pocket since July. He usually saves his money, but since this was something that had to be spent...... Tonight we are grilling out again--turkey tenders and more Bocci ball on the agenda--I really do love my boring life, it puts me in a good place!
    Sil, I sent you a PM just a few minutes ago. Also, I think I mentioned this before, but that grape to wine quote is TRULY a classic!! Funny though, DH didn't find it nearly as amusing as I did!
    Samsgram, hope work went okay. Can't wait to see your pics.
    Pooky, hope you turn out alright with your tummy and your meds!
    Barb, I am SOOO glad that Alvin is improving. That is terrific news. Hang in there and watch out for those vending machines.....they are evil!!
    Deb, thanks for Lane Bryant tip, I have one of their catalogs here. How is DS holding up at camp.
    Ruth, feel better!! Maybe the heat and all of the work at the fair just caught up with you. Take care!
    Sue, hope you enjoy your less busy evening.
    Linda, wish we could have seen your longer post! What were you doing up!!!!
  • Quick hi to all- it's so great to read all that everyone is up to! As an aunt, I can join in just a little: when my neice got on the bus the first day of kindergarten, I wanted to drive the bus route following them until I saw her get off and walk into the school! It took all my self control to let her drive away-
    Glad Alvin is stabilizing, that is a relief. Barb, think of your protein as strengthening you and as something you NEED right now. Feed yourself well when you are under stress! Extra meat, extra frequent meals, whatever keeps you strong!
    Annie- it is nicer weather here, too and boy don't you appreciate it more when it's been so awful? Turkey tenders sound great for the grill- marinated, I'll bet.
    Sil, I join the others in loving the Men are Grapes joke. A classic.
    sam'sgamma- glad you're getting called to work, maybe it'll be more regular soon!
    Hi Deb, Ruth and Sue, and all to come.
    Jiff- guess what. After calling in sick yesterday, I got called back at 8:30 AM by my boss who needed a report done, that she couldn't do, for me to "help her with a few things." I ended up going in to work anyway, furious, and working like a demon for four hours straight to do something that SHE screwed up. I could have done this a week ago if she remembered instead of in a last minute panic! It was important, but I am ripping mad because I am saving her butt and most people won't know how it was. Although I will get credit and I did a good job
    So we will have to find another day to just hang out some time!
    Have a good day all!
    dottie
  • Dottie, that is just a shame that you didn't get to stay home and have some me time for a change. I know you were really looking forward to it. You know from here you are looking a little pale and feverish, you might be coming down with something and need to stay home for an EXTRA long weekend to get better. Take care of yourself!
  • Oh goash less busy?? NOT!!! I worked over time for an hour not bad but then i got the stuff to fix the last car, and now MIL called DS1 is sick running a fever and i have to be on the road 2 hours to go and get him (half way) and bring him home. so i wil not be to present tonight unless i am hyper when iget home!! My first pay day is tomorrow!! I am so excited!!!
    Love to all
  • Good night, Johnboy!
    I can't believe I haven't checked in before now! Oh, the last minute running around before school for the nap mat that wasn't on the supply list and every store in town was sold out of. And the dry-erase markers that every single store in town is sold out of. What else?? I forget.
    Ya'll have a good night, I'm going to bed early because I haven't woken up at 5:30 since I was in school over 10 years ago. Ugh!! I'll check in tomorrow!
  • Awww, Poopy Pooky! Have you asked for Gluc XR? Regular Gluc tore me INSIDE OUT but so far the XR is a dream. I am still only on 500mg a day, but no diarrhea yet. This dose on regular met had me on the toilet a lot. My endo told me that Met causes stomach upset in 30 percent of the patients, and the XR only does in 1 percent. Also, a normal dosage is all at once, so no worries about missing pills in the day. How long have you been on it? If you haven't been at it too long, try taking in the middle of a meal and also you might want to cut back a dose until you get used to it and then move back up to the dose you are on. Let me know if you are feeling better!
    Barb, I am glad to hear it about Alvin! I hope things continue to move upward for you both! About your stress eating talk...there is a lady on the mailing list that asked did the depression make her eat, or did the eating make her depressed? I can't get that question out of my mind. It is helping me make sense of my emotional eating. I'm not depressed, but the emotional response to food is still an ugly circle sometimes.
    Sue, enjoy that payday, you deserve it!
    Ruth, I want a picture of you with that shawl with your chicken purse sticking it's head out.
    All for now!
