Default new lo-carber and a vegetarian!!

Help!!
I have lost 50 pounds in the past 18 months just counting calories. I lose some, maintain it, then try to lose some more, maintain it, etc... I still have another 100 to go to get to an ideal weight for my height. I am a vegetarian and on day one of the induction plan today. I do eat cheese, but I dont want to just eat cheese for two weeks! I did eat some "veggie sausage" this morning which has three carbs and had two of them with some cheese melted on top. (trying to be creative here). I figure if I keep the carbs under 20 this should still work even though technically I am not eating exactly like Atkins says. The 20 carbs are 20 carbs right?? Or should I just give up and go back to counting calories again? What do you guys think? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Protein, protein, protein! Do you like tofu? Soybeans? Protein shakes? I think it's harder, but doable. Good luck!!

thanks for responding to my post! I didnt think anyone would. The problem with Atkins is the first two weeks only 20 carbs a day. I dont eat eggs, but I do eat cheese. I am not sure if tofu has carbs, but I am sure it does since it comes from soy which isn't 100 protein (I think). My mom says I should eat the egg beaters. Maybe I will try that. I will definately look into the protein shake idea-that's a good one.

so far so good!

the Protein Power which has success like atkins does give a little more room for carbs the first few weeks so do not worry if you go a bit more carbs than the 20.

things to try eggs any way you like, tofu most any way there are many creative ways ofeating them vegie burgers, light on the beans but stil can do some. and like sherri said p-shakes. they should do fine.

WELCOME LAURA

I also use Eggbeaters but i believe that it is made with egg whites, so be careful if you are a vegan who does not want to eat animal products.
The ladies here are very helpful and lots of fun, too. I think you'll enjoy coming here often. Good luck ! And congratulations on your great weight loss

Hey Laura!!

Fellow Virginian here!

I follow Protein Power and like to substitute with soy products - some are at zero carbs - you have to look at the labels.

Look for firm tofu in the produce section ( often less than one carb per serving)

Also look for unsweetened soy milk - I add this to some All Bran cereal with a few berries and a little bit of Splenda - call this my Euell Gibbons (sp?) breakfast.

The next time I go to the store, I'll go to the frozen section and check out the labels on the Morningstar and Boca packages too.

Welcome! Look forward to hearing from you again!

I love Boca Burgers. Just be careful because some of them are hig in carbs, like the Spicey Black Bean ones. But those are my favorite ones .

Thanks for all the suggestions. When I started considering trying low carb I was thinking maybe I should try eating some meat again, but it's gonna take some time I guess. I have been eating cheese all along and things with egg in it, but not eating a plate of eggs if you know what I mean. I think once I get through the first two weeks it will be easier. So far so good, and I am on day two. I may wait a few days to weigh in-hoping for a good response from the scale!!

thanks again!
