Default Ummm, about Chinese food???

Today was my last day of 2 week Atkins Induction and I think I may have blown it at a Chinese smorg this evening. It's DH's 61st birthday (he says we got the numbers reversed but I don't think so. ) and we went out to dinner with my aunt and uncle to a China Kitchen smorg. I tried to be very careful and put green salad on my plate first. Then I picked out just meat and fish but you know what? Things like ginger beef taste really sweet. In fact, just about EVERYthing tasted sweet. I bet it has knocked me right out of ketosis even though I didn't have any extra sauces or rice or noodles. I have no idea what the carb count for the meal was but seeing as I hadn't had any carbs at all until dinner, I'm hoping the damage won't be too great.
I've been guzzling water ever since and hoping for the best. I was planning on continuing Induction for a few more weeks anyhow, so I guess it's back to square one tomorrow.
I don't really have a question here. I guess I just want some tea and sympathy.

Tea and sympathy here! I am addicted to Chinese food - just ate breakfast and I am salivating over your Ginger Beef.

Seems to me most Chinese sauces have carbs in them from sugar or cornstarch and they sure have salt from soy. Drinking water seems to be the way to go, LindaBC - flush out that stuff. It sounds just wonderful though!

Do not worry about knocking your self out of ketosis. just keep drinking and well you do need to enjoy your food that is why this is a woe not a diet. this was not a fialure it was not a bad thing to do just do not do it too often. when eatintg chinese try to leave as much sause off your plate as possible that is the only way to survive chinese food. do not sweat it just drink drink drink

Linda, as long as you're taking your Metformin, you should be OK--get back OP and don't look back. Metformin is very forgiving on us who take a side trip to the carb bar!

hi! all - poppin' back in!

Can I ask a newbie question?

What is Metformin??

A co-worker told me her sister takes something called Glycet to block any extra carbs she may take in when she eats out?

Can anybody fill me in on this? LOL

Also - are any of those low carb snack bars really worth it or do they just taste like chalk? LOL

THANKS!!!

Terri -

Terri, Metformin is a prescription drug which is used to help regulate blood sugar in diabetics. My blood glucose levels were getting quite high while I was on WW so the doc hopes this will help get them back into the safe zone. The nice side effect is that being on Metformin has helped me get into ketosis which seemed impossible the last time I tried Atkins two years ago.

BTW, I followed everyone's advice and ate lots of protein and fat and drank lots of water and this evening I am back into the pale shade of purple. Yippee.
But, you know what. All morning I was having carb cravings. Caused by the sweet sauces in the Chinese food, no doubt. Man, am I ever sensitive to carbs! Good thing I don't go out for Chinese food too often.
