Talking Baby Food Idea's

Hey Goils,

I need some idea's on what to feed Gracie. She is getting sick of her mushy baby food but with only 2 teeth there's not to much she can have. I gave her the chunky baby food and she almost hurls (can't blame her, she wants real stuff).

This is what she has eaten so far:

Graham Crackers
Cheerios (only started this yesterday)
Noodles
Potatoes
Eggs
Toast

My Mom watches her and she's even given her Icecream and Cheese doodles which I freak over cause I don't want her having that stuff at her age. There's plenty of time later on for that and besides its so unhealthy, nothing like making the kid fat huh.

Any other ideas without making her gag or choke
She did mention Mexican food but I said that would be when she hits 10 months old (just joshin).

Love Leens

Leens, my gd Rosie is 13 months and since her mommy started her on food (she was breastfed) she eats whatever the rest of the family eats...... she absolutely adores cheese, stringbeans and tomatoes! But, she also eats chicken and fish - she's not liking red meat too much tho - not that I see that as a problem, as long as she eats plenty of fish, chicken and other sources of protein........ Just make sure you cut up the pieces small enough for her to handle, but not so small that she could choke - oh yes, grapes (cut in half) are another fave of Rosie's --
hope this helped! Good luck!

She might like cottage cheese and it's a good source of protein.
I don't blame her for not wanting chunky baby food. Did you ever taste that crap? I used to mix scrambled aggs and applesauce to my DD and she loved it. Of course, the child adored ANY food.

Does she feed herself with her fingers? Just chop up cooked veggies and let her experiment. Kids love to squish peas. As for meats and poultry, don't worry if she doesn't care for them yet. She is probably slowing down a bit in growth and she gets plenty of nourishment from other foods.

And, tell your mother to stop with the junk food and to save the ice cream for you!

Talking Leens just keep it healthy

Leens like you have already been told....as long as you mash it or chop it, anything goes...and of course lots of healthy food and exposing to lots of different foods will make for a low maintenance healthy little eater.

I can't remember feeding my kids too many jars of baby food...they just ate what we ate....and I don't remember how old gracie is but there are no off limits foods....except for maybe nuts and popcorn as she might choke.

I would try: soups, soft sandwiches..ie tuna, all veggies cooked, apple sauce,rice,meats-cut and softened, arrowroots, any fruit soft, yougurt, etc.

The main thing is go slow and introduce only a few new things at a time in case of food allergies. I had no troulbe with peanut butter etc but some kids do.

Go with your gut feeling Leens you are the expert with your babe!

You are right to stay away from the cheezies etc once she gets a taste for stuff like that she will never eat the bagels and rice cakes!

Kids eat and do what we do...when my dd10 was a babe my hubby always had a glass of coke on the go so she was sucking that back from an early age...to this day she loves pop and would die of thirst before she would drink water, though she is slowly getting better.

My dd4 always saw us drinking water and there was no pop around...water is often her first choice as a drink, so Leens we have the POWER!

ditto ditto ditto

I seem to remember my kidlets at that age eating grilled cheese sandwiches cut up into little pieces, and I remember them liking the pizza that you can make out of bisquik....the crust sort of crumbles and it was not too hard to chew or gum! They were never very good at eating peas...but they did have great fun popping them between their fingers!

fish sticks were fun!
jello was hysterical....my kids pooped green after eating the blue jello! Don't say I didn't warn ya!

oh I gained alot of weight from eating the little scraps of their food...gosh darn it if I hated to waste all that they didn't eat!

give that cutie a hug and a smile from me!

Thanks for the help.

I gave her Spagetti O's yesterday and she just gaged and gaged, it was kinda funny, she wasn't choking but the look on her face was histerical, poor kid.

Oh she's 9 months old w/2 teeny teeth on the bottom.

Have a good one.

My DD,Zookeeper, was just here and I asked her for ideas. She mentioned skinless weiners chopped fine. NO PEACH PIECES, as they slide down the throat too easily.

While you or your Mom is fixing the meal, put some foods on the high chair tray and let her experiment while she's hungry. It's terribly messy, but it teaches the child to feed herself. I remember actually putting applesause on the try along with noodles and letting DD play. Some of it got into her mouth. I kept an old vinyl tablecloth to put the high chair on. After she was fed, I'd put the empty high chair into the shower and run hot water over it to drip dry.

If I think of any more, I'll post again. It's been a long time since I had a baby around.

I am with the rest of the chicks, feed her what you eat. Either get a food mill or a mini food processor. What I use to do is cook and mash, line mini muffin tins with plastic wrap and fill them with food then freeze it. i always has food the kids lliked. it traveled ok and i was not throwing away a ton of stuff. The other thing to keep in mind as you feed her your food is to season after you take out her portion or that some stuff will have to cook longer to be soft enough for her.

My kids btw loves sweet potato
sqash
gramcrackers softened with formuls/milk/breast milk.
banana
little pastas
carrot (cooked)
yogurt
turkey from the deli
mashed potato
low salt goldfish
low salt saltines

hope this helps

Angry

Leens, I can only ditto what has already been offered. My kiddos ate what we ate.

Veggies -green beans, carrots, peas, , etc.. I think they seemed to learn towards the sweeter tasting veggies at first.
Mashed potatoes, oatmeal, macc/cheese, vienna sausages, cheese slices. Grapes, bananas, melon.

Like Tip, I can recall setting them in the high chair and giving them foods and watching their reactions. Some were keepers, some weren't. But as already been suggested you may want to introduce new foods slowly and watch for any allergic reaction.

Just experiment hon, she'll survive it! lol
