  • I've been on Atkins induction for a week now (7 days exactly) and am not showing a weight loss. I started at 202.5, went up to 205 for a couple days, and this morning at 202.5. No TOM for me due to hysterectomy. I've been following it vigilently. Any help?
  • Lisa, this happens and it's easy to get discouraged. Try to stick it out for another week. If you don't drop, then maybe Atkins is not for you. I know that is heresy but also is realistic.

In the meantime, take a really close look at what you are eating - post menues if you want comments. Are you eating "low carb" bars? Processed meats? A lot of cheese? Remember that 0 carbs on a label does not mean no carbs - in Canada, they can say 0 carbs if the carb count is less than 1. How much water are you drinking? Have you tested for ketosis?

I'm sure the other chicks will have comments later WHEN THEY GET THEIR LAZY CHICKEN BUTTS OUT OF THE NESTS! We need a rooster in here to wake us up.

    Hang in there, Sweetie.
  • Quick menu
Yes, I"m using Atkins Advantage bars for quick meals - on the run type. One per day, I guess.

    Water: 64 - 100 ounces...depending on the day.

Cheese, mozzarella and cheddar (very sharp) ... about 2 ounces total per day

Yes, I'm showing Ketosis from "trace" to "moderate" with the majority of the time in between that. Have been from day 4.

Gotta run for now. Maybe this stuff will help. I"ll post better menus later.

    Lisa
  • Seems to me the Atkins bars may be screwing up your loss. I am sure other chicks will respond but there seem to be hidden carbs in some low carb bars and shakes. Sugar alcohol? Any ingredient that ends in "ose"?
I could be wrong. I've been wrong before - been married twice.
  • I agree with Ruth, lay off those low carb bars for a week and find some other things to eat on the fly--look in our recipe section for some great resipes that can be made ahead of time and stored when you're running out the door. Also, with the amount of water you're taking in--watch your salt intake--you might be retaining all your water! Try spicing your food with herbs and other seasonings--nothing with salt in it and see if that helps. Hope this helps!
  • Don't give up!
    Lisa,

I read your post under Atkins first, so I responded with some ideas that may help there. I won't repeat them, but I was wondering if you still have your ovaries? I too had a hysterectomy, but they left the ovaries, so I have hormone related cravings, mild depression, mild fatigue and to put it in the words of my husband, "a non-period period". It does change the way we eat. The way our bodies use nutrients and fat stores, retain water etc..If you hit ketosis on day 4, you only had 3 days to really start to melt the fat. I'll bet you see a drop this week.

As far as using the protein bars every day. I would try to avoid it if you can. I noticed my weight loss slowed significantly between my second and third week. The only thing I had changed was I had added protein bars to my menu. When I realized that, I started to cut the bars up into 12 pieces. If I want chocolate or something sweet, I take a piece out of the frig (I store the cut up bars in the frig in a plastic bowl). Since I have started doing this, I have started to lose again..approx. 2-3 lbs a week. I have stayed on induction because I want to continue to lose at this rate for a while.

I hope this info along with what I posted in 'atkins' helps. I wish you all the best. I know you will be successful. Congrats on quiting smoking!!!!!
    Hugs and prayers,

  • I forgot to say something...
    If you can imagine!

I just wanted to ask you to read the story I wrote in Mirror, Mirror on the Frig that I wrote. It's totally from the heart and all about me trying to find my way...I hope that it inspires..

    Thanks,

  • My hysterectomy...and no cigs for 4 whole days
Yes, they took out everything, including ovaries. I was on premarin for the last 5 years or so...they just changed me over to the very lowest dose of estrace .5mg.

It's been 4 whole days without smoking! I CAN do this!!!!!!
  • YES YOU CAN !!!!
You hang in here! And measure! I can only echo what others have already said. Please do not get discouraged and do measure yourself! Watch your portion sizes, sodium intake and definately your water!

Quitting smoking? You're a stronger person than me. I am not that strong yet....You CAN DO THIS! You have many friends offering support behind you!

    Janice
  • Yes you can do this!!
It's me who can't do it!!

Just kidding! I quit smoking 10 days ago, and believe me, OP has not been in my vocabulary! However, I am back on track next week!

Congrats on the quit, and the weight loss, good luck!
  • grrrr
Still no loss, and my waste is 1 inch bigger? (I sure hope it's just in the measuring!)

I'm getting frustrated. With the lack of carbs, I was sure I'd see something in 11 days!

Still showing colors from pink up on the stix... I just don't understand

    My menu today was:

3 ounces of cream cheese brkfast

1 cup pork roast and 1 cup iceberg lettuc with 2 tables spoons Paul Newmans 1 carb Caesar dressing lunch

1 cup pork roast for dinner

    70 ounces of water
coffee (2 cups - 1/2 decaf 1/2 caf) with splenda (tsp) and 1 tablesspoon heavy cream in each.
  • Lisa,
It seems to me that you aren't eating enough-I know that sounds weird but maybe you need a little more nutrition-some fiber via veggies or something. Stick with it, it'll all work out I swear. TRUST ME. I went from 210-193 in about 4 weeks. My first two weeks were bad; no change in weight, i had headaches and i was kind of blue. Then one day (i swear) BAM-the lbs were gone.

    Amy
  • Hi Lisa !
I keep reading this thread and given it much thought. Part of me is stumped (where's Sue and Jif when you need them? lol)

A few things come to mind ~

I agree with DCH-maybe you're not eating enough of the right LC foods. Of course, I don't know what you're prior eating patterns were like. I, for example, have never been a big eater, so, strict LC for me isn't a huge reduction in portions but the carbs. I've discovered that I must be aware of the type of calories I'm intaking. And not be afraid to consume the good carbs.

Also, the starvation mode DCH mentioned. For myself, eating 3 meals a day seemed to not fit right. I find that I am better off eating "mini" meals. Altho I post on the food journal as breakfast/lunch/dinner it is usually B-hb egg, 2 hours later perhaps some cheese or sge, another 2 hours salad, etc.. I do this in an effort to consume the protein for my metabolism to kick in and intake additional over short periods. Not being a large eater seems to work well for me.

If your mid section seems a bit larger....are you feeling bloated? I think it was Peach that had a tuff time with the cheese. Are you using any low fat products?

I probably don't know what I'm talking about (as these wiser chicks will soon show ! ) But maybe just food for thought?

  • gassy/constipated
Last evening I was extremely gassy and consitpated. Maybe that's where the extra measurement ended up? I think I'm gonna ease up on the cheese (shucks...it was such a nice quick fix when time was short).

The carbs I"m eating....lettuce and lettuce...and more lettuce. Unfortunately, I've not reached the "variety" place here. I had to start simple.

My ketosis sticks still show light to moderate pink....but this afternoon (I test severa times a day to see what's going on) it was MAROON!

    I'll keep letting you know...

    Today,

Steak and eggs with butter - B

Salad with mozza cheese (4oz) and a handful of mushrooms with Paul Newmans Caesar dressing (2tblsp = 1 carb) = L

    Dinner ?

I too like to split my meals up...3 isn't my way either. Does anyone know how "fibercon" tables fit into (or don't) LCing? I need to do something?

Oh, and I have had 60 oz. of water so far....and did have my normal 2 cups of "lite" coffee with about 2 tblsp cream and splenda (tsp) per cup.

Gotta run...I have to sit thru a spagetti dinner with my daughter for Mom's appreciation day with her brownie troop. I am feeling better today, though.....I'm rereading ATkins New book again....oh, and my meds......

Estrace (estrogen) Inderal (beta blocker, aka high blood presure meds...not because I have high pressure...but as a preventative for headaches) prozac and zyban (8 days no cigarrettes!) and Nicoderm patches

Supplements...daily..multivitamin, chomium (not picolinate), L-carni9tine, E, Flaxseed oil, that natural yeast stuff (acidophlus..sp?), b6 and b12 and c, magnesium......(I've been reading ATkins and Protein Power for help in these areas...and when I can afford it, I add...next to add..Q10)

Now I really have to run

  • I forgot!
oh i forgot my synthroid for hypothyroid
