  • Gee whiz! You chicks really reacted to yesterday's poem! The trampoline idea sounds great. Keep them coming!

Here's a poem that suits the weather for today!
    "Cold, dark, miserable and glum!
Cold as the fur on a polar bear's bum!"

My Dad used to say that all the time and we kids thought it really daring - remember when "bum" was a bad word? Fanny was borderline and then there were "fronts" for boobs. See, I'm getting really old and dwelling on the past.

The fence is finally up and the gate is hung. HOWEVER (and life is full of howevers!) the gate is just the frame with no wire yet. I blocked off the opening with a door and the Girls had their first major romp in the Dog Garden last night. Kevin and his merry men come back this morning to finish - rain or shine he said!

Yesterday was Lucy's Evaluation Day with the Breeder, the Handler and a new Trainer. She got 10-10-10, dammit! She also got her first show cut amd my darling puppy is gone. Now we have to get serious about training to get her ready for her first show. Lucy looks fabulous but I certainly miss my shaggy ball of fluff. Remind me to get a mutt from the Dump next time!

We are taking the car in for its maintenance this morning at 8 and may take a look at an additional vehicle. My Focus is great but the trunk will not handle dog carrier cases. I am sort of leaning towards a truck again as I miss our old black wreck. However, it would be hard for DH to climb into so will probably get a wagon or a hatchback. Most vans I've checked out have the same climbing problem. The Dealer and his dad before him has sold cars to my family for three generations so I won't be pressured by him.

Back on track with food today after a horrible two days. That damned scale really can affect my attitude. I go up because of Chinese one night and cannot get back on track for two more days despite good intentions. Grrrrr! Started the day with a good breakfast today - yesterday I had red licorice for breakfast and it was downhill after that!

Gotta clean the teeth and put on enough makeup to look human. Then we are off to the dealer. I'll be at Lisa's this afternoon getting stuff organized for her homecoming - like groceries in the fridge and stuff cooked ahead. Her DH (a great guy) loves to BBQ so that will work out well.

    Have a great Thursday!
  • My DH was diagnosed as non-insulin dependent diabetes. I think I got that right. Anyway, the ol' boy is not a happy camper. He'll have to lose weight and exercise. I told him it is PORTION CONTROL---he can eat pizza but not the whole thing.

Okay-got a question. What is a serving of fresh veggies? Cooked veggies? Is it a cup or a half of a cup? The same question for fruits? It would help he understand portions.

Gotta go and make dinner in the crockpot.......!
  • Good morning all! Feeling slightly better than last night...haven't kept much of anything down and ache all over but at least it is over with...I was in rough shape yesterday they must have really snowed me in the OR...don't think it added up to much...said my gallbladder was like a deflated balloon full of pea shaped stones...haven't been able to get my hands on any yet. Have a good day, have to lie down again...Liz
  • I understand that a serving of veggis is 1 cup uncooked or 1/2 cup cooked. Please someone correct me if I am wrong!

    Morning All!

Not much around here -- thanks goodness. Feeling a little dizzy today, for no reason. Might be dehydrated since I haven't been drinking my water the past couple days But, will down it now and hope this yucky feeling goes away.

I hope you all have a great day!
  • Morning Ninnies ROFL,

Tip sorry to hear about R....that sucks. I think its one cup raw and 1/2 cup cooked. Fruit I think its like a apple whole or 1/2 cup.

Nothing much doin here sosdd. Ruthie I have a poem my dad use to sing to but you would definitly censor it, its about a monkey and his tail Enuf said !

Liz glad your home and on your way to recovering. Hope it goes quick for you.

Have a great day everyone !

    Love, Leens
  • Ninny chicking in!

I am a single mom until Sunday when dh will come home from Wisconsin. His mom is holding her own, still not expected to make it and he and his 4 brothers and 2 sisters are taking turns sitting by her bedside. My boys are holding up pretty darn well, they adore their dad and so do I. I now realize I how much I take him for granted. ok, enough mush!

Lindabc! Great to see you here!!!! Congrats on the weight loss and more energy!!!!

Went to weigh in today, I was down a happy 3 pounds and since I gained last week the total is now 25.4... I am a happy ninny EXCEPT for the fact that I have a tiny glass sliver in the ball of my foot that I can not get out! Why you ask? The other day the little guy got hold of the 6 pound shot put, rolled it across the wood floor right into the storm window I was going to clean (oh about 3 weeks ago)!!! He loves shattering glass (long story that involves godzilla!) So, I thought I had gotten every little bit of it up but OBVIOUSLY I missed some!
My doc is out today so, being the smart chick that I am I called Debkay for advice!!! So after I post this I am going to put a bit of ambesol on the spot to numb it and see if I can get it out. If not, I guess I'll be going to the doc tomorrow!

    always something!

Liz, great to see you up and posting so soon!

    Jo? how are you doing?

Tippy, pg 12 of my ww book says, "As a general guide 1/2c of vegetables counts as a serving. For raw vegetables, like lettuce and spinach, a serving is 1C"

    hey to everyone!

    peach

    OUCH
  • Good Afternoon Chicklets
Well, I was gone for awhile .. and I have attempted to catch up on some of the goings on around here .. busy place this is!!

My MIL passed away last Thursday morning at about 3 am .. the children were all by her side. It was a peaceful passing ... thank god. The wake and funeral were lovely. It was sad to see my neices and nephews crying .. for some it was their first funeral. We did try to prepare them for it.

DH apologized for his previous behaviour .. and has been doing alot of butt kissing

I started taking Celexia .. its an antidepressant ... and without even trying to lose weight .. I have lost 10 lbs!! I think alot of that could be just stress but time will tell. With the funeral and what not, I havent been OP in so long that it will take me a bit to get it together again.

I went to the Royal Botanical Garden plant sale today with my friend who will be doing all of my planing and planting .. I dont have a clue what she bought but I know it will look wonderful. Im such a trusting soul

Ruth - Glad to here the Dog Garden is coming along well .. it wont be long before they are fertilizing it for you Wonderful to hear that Lucy did so well .. you must be a proud mommy!

Tippy - Sorry to hear about your DH. My father is also type II .. but he does not watch what he eats .. put him on the low carb diet .. it should do wonders for him.

Liz - Glad to hear that you are recovering .. it will take a few days before your back to yourself again .. until then take it easy.
  • Good afternoon Chickies!

Question: Does a iced cappuccino and a bag of pork rinds count as a balanced breakfast on CALP? That's what I had on the way back from my biweekly shop in Orillia this morning. The good news is that I'm down 3 more ponds and it seems the lower dosage of Metformin is working for me. Not nearly as nauseous as I was.

Got called into work tomorrow to work in the toddler room (I love babies!). Should be a lot of fun!

Goomba, sorry to hear about your MIL, and I'm glad to hear that dh is kissing your butt!

Peachie, hope everything goes speedily for your MIL, nothing worse than a lingering passing.

Jenniwookie, the only time I felt like that was when I was pregnant--do you have aything to tell us?? Hmmm????

Liz, glad to hear the surgery went well! Now just rest comfortably, OK?

Tippy, sorry to hear about your dh, maybe you can convince him to try CALP? Following a low carb plan would definitely help him and yeah, my dh has a HUGE problem with portion control too, sounds like my dh and your dh could have a merry ole time left to their own devises!

Ruthie, I always knew that Lucy was a star--or was that diamonds?

    Have a good one everyone!
  • help me!!! help me!!! help me!!!!
these people at this job are making me nuts!!!! they're making me so nuts that my salary requirement went up $5,000 today!!! and i DEMANDED a private office!!!! and they're ALMOST ready to hire me!!!!

but they're still making me crazy!!!!

thank you for letting me vent!!!!
  • My Darling Pooky! You are NOT funny!

OH MY! Wouldn't that be something -- dh is gone too much. I think it would have to be called "immaculate conception" or some other horrific title! LOL!!!
  • Hi all,
Finally I can check in. I had a printing job erlier this week and thought I was home free once ot was done. NOPE! I got 2 more jobs this week. One for today! and another birth anoucement. also i have a mock up to a martini party1 I have a great idea to make an invitation out of a martini glass and use the olives for the information. I will not give away too many secrets because at $5 per it is a great deal but some work. I always think it is fun to do something new and creative. save it and recycle it for another event... shhhh don't tell anyone!

I am off to Old Deerfield for and auction and some golf this weekend. I leave kids in DH's hand. I have no clue what I wil come home to, but I really don't care because I get 2 whole days NO KIDS to wipe, make anything or pick up after! WOO HOO. I love when this happens.

Ok the printer is done. I have to go chop and deliver the invitations. Have a great night all.

Glad to gee you feeling better liz,

  • Hi All..
    I[m surviving!
Took the inlaws to see 7 houses today. Don't think any will work! Wheelchair can't get in to a normal bathroom...they want to build! And of course stay with us in the mean time!
Going to get my nails done tonight when DH gets home. No children, no old people!!
OHHHH I don't want to be old!
  • Sorry for not being around, Ladies. Actually had to work the last few days (life is so tough sometimes ).

L144S - I finally finished catching up on all of the posts from this week and saw the photo you posted on Monday. Do I know you (aside from this forum of course). You're from Massachusetts? I grew up there (in Billerica). I still have lots of family in that area (Keller - Anderson - McCarthy). I now live in Rochester, NH with DH (O'Neil). Any chance we've met? You're face just looks awfully familar to me. Let me know, please. It's starting to bug me.

Tippy - Type II? Too bad. No adult over 50 has escaped that in my family. I'm hoping that by getting my weight under control that I can be the first to avoid it. Portion sizes are not the same for Diabetics. Please consult with your doctor or a nutritionist. You can also get some great cookbooks at your local library and bookstore. I know he's having a hard time now but the sooner he comes to grips with this turn of events and takes control the better off he will be later. My grandfather has lost both legs to this disease and my dad has lost his night vision. I'm not trying to scare you -- just being upfront. It can be managed. He can live a long, productive life. Stay strong and keep us up to date. We are always here for you!

Gotta go, Folks. Almost my bed time.
