Hey Peach,

The walking tapes are basically you completing one, two or three miles in front of your TV....it simulates walking.

The one that I have is Walk Away The Pounds with Leslie Sansone. The one mile isn't to bad, you can do it in 18 minutes. I can not do aerobics because of my spine and joints. This isn't a bouncy tape, its pretty good. I brought it to work with me because I have no time to do it at home. Wish me luck doing it here to haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Hope that helps.

Thumbs down A Reply, and another question....

For a long time before i started jogging, i used teh Jane Fonda Walk OUt, it htink that is what it she called it. It was actually a blast, and while you are walking there is this silly marching music and all. It is really funny if you use it outside, 'cause there you are cruising along listening to this really upbeat marching music, as if you were in a parade, and you look at teh other peopl on the street and and you wonder what they would say if they heard what was in you headphones., THat always made my walk pleasureable. It was a two tape set i think, and had several legnths.

Nowadays I jog, and I listen to a range of tapes. Personally, I like UB40's Labor of Love, the first one, cause my stride is perfect with the beat. But, that is just my experience. I used to think i wanted to buy the Shape Magazine sponsored aerobic and walking tapes....has anyone bought them? if so, what are the included songs....

=^..^=

hey peach!

I also have the Leslie Sansonne Walking Videos and they are excellent but they aren't really for use with a treadmill. This is just simply walking right in front of your tv in about a 4x4 space - and I love em.

But if you are looking for music to go along with your walking on the treadmill - there are excellent walking tapes and cds. I have 2 that are called Praise Walk and Praise Workout, and are made by Integrity music - basically it is just really upbeat music that sets the beat for your walking, and it starts out slowly, speeds up, and then slows back down as you are finishing - they are really cool and I like them. I get mine from Columbia House and you can go on line and look at them - their Selection Nos are 329359 and 329342. I have also seen walking tapes set to music of the 50's or 60's or 70's if you prefer that type of music.

Hope this helps!

hugs, cathy

The Proform treadmill (sold at Sears) I got for Xmas comes with an audio cable for use with a CD player or VCR for which you can order special CD's or Videos that actually work with your treadmill to adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill as you listen to an instructor and music. If your treadmill is ifit.com compatible (which several are) you can go to ifit.com and order these online. They come in various levels of difficulty and tell you the maximum speed and incline on each tape (You can override it manually if they're too hard until you work up to it.) My videos haven't arrived yet, but I've enjoyed the CD that's Level 1 (I think it goes up to 4.5 mph and 7% incline) and is something like Brittish Rock Selections.
One of the video's I've ordered is of Hawaii and it lets you watch as you run/walk on the beach and or climb mountains with the incline. They're really cool and fun for variation from the 6 programs on the treadmill. It's also fun to track your progress as you go longer and longer each week without having to override the program to slow it down!

Hi Peach,
Congrats on getting the treadmill!

I've been really off the "e" thing for a few weeks and this thread at least has me thinking about it --

What works best for me is to find a television show I like (I got a cheap, little tv to put in front of my treadmill) and to plan for (and maybe force myself to stop whatever I'm doing at the time) time out to walk and watch it. I like The View (when I don't agree w/what they're saying, I yell at the tv, which adds to my lung fitness, I'm sure!) Sometimes I speed up on the commercials -- and go back down during the show. Sounds a little silly but it was really working for me...my problem began when I started saying, "Well, I just don't have time for that today!" I've NEVER regretted arguing w/that voice and winning the argument by "wasting" my time walking for a bit. Sounds like I'm ready to climb back on again...

Good luck!

I find my treadmill does the walking for me, 20 mi. and I've done a mile - the thing IS - TO GET on it!

Then if you're not moving, you fall on your face....so move those legs. I watch TV when I'm walking, good cooking or travels shows - and the time flies.

So why don't I do it 3 X a day? Beats me, but has me thinking about it.

Hey Peacherino,
I really like Collage Video for tape buying. They have tons of tapes and the staff has evaluated them all. They have good descriptions and ratings and you can download bits to see if you like the tape (not that I can ever makes that work!). I think it's collagevideo.com

I have the Leslie Sansone tapes too and really like them, but like Cathy said, they really wouldn't work too well with a treadmill.

Everytime I get on a treadmill I think of George Jetson walking (R)Astro. Remember Jane his wife, daughter Judy and his boy Elroy?

Ah, the ramblings of a warped mind again!

Oh now you did it! Now, when I finally get the darn thing I will be singing the Jetsons song every darn time I get on it! And here I could have been thinking I was in Hawaii!

Jiff is on the phone reading me a poem called Ode to a Tomato....she needs a life too.

Thank you all for your ideas! Good to know that the Sansone tapes are not for the tread mill...those are the ones that I was thinking of!

As to the View...I don't get to watch that show much, but when I do I enjoy it although my "views" are quite a bit more conservative. BUT...to my point...when you look at Joy Behar...you can think of me! People have told me that we look alot alike...but I a fluffier and more conservative...but the mouth is is kind of the same!

I think that I will be getting the tread mill in a week or two so I have some time to look around and check out what you all suggested. I will promise you this...I will NOT walk and watch the Food Network!!!

Thanks!
