Looking for suggestions.....

I've tried low carbing before but keep "falling off the wagon". Now I find myself thinking about it again.

A little history, I have PCOS and am about 90 lbs overweight. The part I find hardest about low carbing is that I love fruit.

What plan are you following and why did you chose that plan? Thanks

Nancy

Hallo Nancy

I can relate to your problem, I also have PCOS, and I love fruits. :( August last year I started with Atkins after I found out that a low carb diet works best if you are diagnosed with PCOS. I have lost about 30lbs (before Christmas) and still have 60lbs to go. After seeing the results of limiting fruits, it is no longer a problem for me. Sometimes I eat strawberries with cream and low cal jelly for desert. (Some fruits are allowed on Atkins)

I have tried CAD but found that I tend to go overboard, then I have a problem controlling the cravings the day after. It is a great WOE if you don’t overdue it, at this stage I feel I must continue with Atkins until I am closer to my goal. Then I am definitely going to switch to CAD for life.
What really helped me is the friends I made on this board that motivate me al the way. They inspired me to stay on track and achieve something that I was not able to do on my own not even when I joined WW. :(

Remember it does not matter what plan you follows as long as jou stick to it, and with our help you will be able to do it! Join us you only have pounds to loose and allot of friends to gain.

Hi Nancy,

Yes you can either go on CAD or Susanne Sommers (sp??) diet, CAD allows fruit at one meal a day where Susanne's diet alows it on an empty stomach any time of the day.......you'll have to read about it. Her diet doesn't alow you to mix protein and carbs at the same meal but you can eat either one.

I'm torn between the both of them, I think I'm going to try SS diet ??? been thinking about it?

Let me know what you choose.........GOOD LUCK

Hi Nancy,
I'm a loyal CAD girl too. It's the plan that I really feel I can do for a lifetime. The Reward Meal makes all the difference in the world for me. So pretty much, ditto everything Baylee already said.

Baylee Our stories are so similar it's amazing. I too had great success with CAD and then had some medical problems that send me off the deep end for a while. But, I'm back, doing great and down 30+ pounds. This is a great plan, isn't it?

I do PP which is very similar to Atkins. I tried CAD and was stuffing my face for 60 min starting with the home made muffins to the muffins at the end. :D :dizzy: so i had decided that it was out for me!!! I also did not make up my mind which meal was my reward meal so i ate two of them :dizzy:

try several and decide it does not have to be the end all woe for you you can change and when you get closer to goal you can tweak your plan.

Thats my problem too, on CAD I'm stuffing myself silly at dinner cause I'm starving by bed time and laying in bed with your stomach growling and it keeps you awake is noooo fun either lol.....so I think I'm going to give Susanne's a try.

Wow Baylee, that's quite a story! Thank God you persevered and demanded to have the lump removed. My MIL had breast cancer and I know that before doctor's appointments she is a nervous wreck, but it's been about five years now. Still, the scans are scary for her so I have a tiny idea what you go through.

I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis a couple of years ago and it threw me for a loop. While it was good to know what was causing so much pain and tiredness, getting it just pissed me off royally. (Can I say that Ruth?) My son (who's now 16) had been diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis a couple of years earlier and I knew how much he'd been through and knew what was in store for me too. I'd done so much research on his behalf and knew it wasn't just some disease old people get that can be laughed off. I've been able to get a pretty good handle on it since then though. There are times when I have a flare which makes walking very, very painful, but I know the flare will go away in time. I'm very hopeful that Chris (the son) has outgrown it (which is possible with JRA) since he hasn't had a flare for a year. The good thing that has happened with the diagnosis is that I really and truly appreciate my health now. I am much more positive and appreciative of the good things in my life. Losing weight isn't as huge a struggle either because I have a much better attitude this time. I'm doing it because I value my health - okay, okay and I want to look HOT!
Your posts are so positive that I bet you're in the same frame of mind.
Thanks for sharing!

PCOS here, too!

Maybe cause it's a low carb board, but a lot of us seem to have it. I am doing really well with that now, since I started following Atkins. Not so faithfully anymore, but the results have not changed. The hormones are straightened out, the periods are regular for the first time ever WITHOUT meds. The acne is clearing up, the hair is staying put and falling out where applicable. The moods have been more regular, also, and the best benefit: weight loss!! What's not to love?

Good luck with whatever program you try!

Thanks to everyone for their replies. I'm not sure which plan I will follow, but now atleast now I know I have optons.

Thanks again,

Nancy

Hello, Nancy.

My name is Jo. I hope this note finds you well.

I've tried Atkins, CAD, and Suzanne Summers. What I've ended up with is a merging of the three. I did that this past summer and lost 19 pounds in 6 weeks. Unfortunately, I went off my new eating plan for 3 months and gained back 15 pounds! Guess it could have been worse.

I've never been a big fruit fan. Unless, you count strawberries dipped in chocolate! :D But what about "sneaking" in some fruit. If you watch the portion size (and therefore the carbs), you could add some fruit to your salads. You'd need to check a carb counter and find the lowest-carb fruits available. Here is some info from my reference book that you might be able to use:
1/2 Medium Peeled Apple - 9 C
1 Small (12/Lb) Apricot - 4 C
1 2.5 Oz Slice Cantaloupe (no skin) - 6 C
1 Medium Star Fruit (Carambola) - 4 C
8 Sour Cherries (2 Oz) - 6 C
1 Small Mandarin Orange (3 Oz.) - 6 C
3 Oz. Mango Flesh (no skin) - 6 C
2 Oz. Rhubarb, Raw - 3 C
6 Medium or 3 Large Strawberries (2 Oz.) - 3 C
5 Oz. Ugli Fruit (Tangelo type) - 2 C

Hope this helps! Good luck.
