Hi my friends. I'm in a Christmasy, happy kind of mood lately. I want to know your favorite things about the holidays, whether it's Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Festivus or whatever!
One of my favorite things is the smells! I make a killer gingerbread cookie (only to be eaten during my Reward Meal, of course!) that smells incredible. I love the way the tree smells. I love the way my cinnamon candles smell. Yum!
I also adore Christmas music. I listen to classical, rock, country, whatever floats my boat at the moment.
Hopefully thinking about this will help kick my holiday spirit in! It feels like spring here and few decorations up around us to help create that Christmassy feeling.
I love the smells and the music, too. It doesn't matter if it's jazz, country, rock, etc., it's more the "mood and message" of the music. Kinda like warm fuzzy thoughts or happy fun thoughts.
Now this will probably be real corny, but I love that during this time of the year people seem to make more of an effort to be nice to one another. Or go out of their way to make an overdue phone call to a loved one or old friend.
And my very, very favorite thing. It's a time when family and friends make special time for get togethers. With such a hectic world we live in we may not visit as often as we have thoughts of our family and friends. I love having all the kids, grandkids, and craziness. But of course after about 10 hours of all the craziness my next favorite thing just might be.....it's over!
Oh this is hard! Ok my favourite things are having a good laugh with a friend, a nice cup of tea, my crosswrod puzzles or Scrabble but most of all it's my daughte's cute little kiss and a hug before bed time.
Now my favourite Christmas things--my oh my where do I start? When I was a little girl my favourite songs were The Little Drummer Boy and Away in a Manger. Now I like Silent Night and Hark The Herald Angels Sing. I ADORE stockings--by far the best part of Christmas for me! Tinsel on the tree, different shaped candles, my grandma's stuffing and christmas crackers! TV shows, well by far it's the animated The Grinch who Stole Christmas (which I have on video! and a second runner up is Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (you know the old one with Bing Crosby ? singing the title) The ultmate best Christmas movie which I still cry about and adore is the original Christmas Carol with Alistair Sim as Scrooge. I'm still trying to find a video tape of that and can't find it anywhere! Oh yeah, an a real Christmas tree that smells the whole house up of pine!
My favourite christmas song the song is ‘Driving home for Christmas’, I think Chris Rea (not sure about the spelling) is singing it. This song really puts me in the spirit for Christmas.
Then I love the smell and tastes of fruitcake cake that we only bake this time of the year. The cake is very moist and rich, it is baked several weeks before Christmas and once a week we pour a little brandy over it. Some of the ingredients are nuts, dates, cherries, (green and red) spices like cinnamon, nut etc.
Yes Mamaj I agree the time that we spend with family makes this a very special.
What I am not very fond of is that about 2 days after Christmas we are stil having left-overs….
Well, fruit cake is not high on my list of favourites although I make one every year. It HAS to be made right after Halloween and everyone in the house at the time must give it a stir for good luck.
My favourite is mid-night on Christmas Eve. We have been to Church, friends have been here for some wine and cheese, the stuff is cleared up, Harry has gone to bed and I sit sipping Sleepytime Tea watching the tree and wait for the animals to talk.
So far it hasn't happened but you never know.
Ruth, add some scotch to that tea and you ight hear the animals talk and see themsing too!
I haven't been around much. I don't feel well today..I think I got a slight case of food poisoning from some chicken DH brought home. Yucky feeling all day.
I really don't have many favorite things about Christmas exept maybe the Christmas Eve service. Probably too many bad and sad memories.......
