Now, this is no doubt as far away from dieting as we've ever went! DH and I are looking at laminated wood flooring for the living room and master bedroom as I dislike carpeting. also, if in the future, I am using a wheelchair in the house, I want a smooth flooring.
Do any of you have this type of flooring and if so, what brand and what are the pros and cons of it?? Does it dent when furniture is on it for a length of time? How easy is it to maintain?
BTW, if any of you wondered how big this house is, the living room is 19 feet by15 1/2 feet with three window and five doors. The bedroom is 19 feet by 14 1/2 with only one door and four windows. A decorating nightmare!
Any opinions on the flooring woud be really appreciated!
We installed Pergo (I think thats what the name is) in our living room (actually only 1/2 of the living room, the part where you first walk in, heavy traffic). Pergo comes in many different styles, wood and tile looking (we got tile), and its easy to install, Jim installed it himself. They come in squares groove&tongue and it goes over a layer of rubber (I think thats what it is). It looks beautiful, if you want I'll take a picture and send it to you.
Anyhow, I think as far as furniture denting, this will not dent even though it is kinda soft. It comes with a 25 year warranty. Its not cheep but then remember the old saying you get what you pay for. We were going to do the entire kitchen with Pergo but we found a linoleium (spelling ??? lololol) we really liked.
They said on the maintenance, that it was really easy to clean, which it is. I would talk to a few vendors and see what their opinions are on the different flooring thats out there.
Hi Tip!
We also installed Pergo. We started just in my walk in closet, and I loved it so much we continued on-ward!!
I've had no problems with it at all.
We installed the click together stuff ourselves and it was really easy.
My mom also has pergo, and being the wonderfuld grandmother she is, last year when we were visiting she let the kids use their new scooters in her huge living room.....no marks at all, no dents, perfect place, but the thing that connects the Pergo to the kitchen floor (the bump thingy) did crack when they went over it, it was plastic I guess. She called and the people that installed hers replaced it free...
Good luck
When I was working as a maid, I did a house that had hardwoods. We always used Mr. Clean on linoleum and Murphy's on hardwoods. Well, after we mopped and made a second pass over the house, my partner slid for 10 feet across the den. Turns out, this was laminate and not hardwood. It looked identical!! I laughed at her all day, but the laugh was on me, as I had to re-mop the whole floor before the homeowner sued us for a slip and fall! So, if you get laminate, remember to mop correctly!
We have hardwood floors, which we put in last spring. IT is not the Pergo but a red-oak, 3 inch plank floor. IT is tongue and groove and was very interesting to watch them install it. I love it but it took some shopping around to be affordable. My DH had to get the wood at a discount floor place and load it in the truck and bring it home. THen we hired a friend of ours who is a contractor to put it in.....but it is sooo pretty. I have heard so many good things about Pergo that I think I would try that next!
A friend of my DD's put in Pergo. I think that the problem there was that they put in a darker reddish color as it showed every scratch. Also, their property is ver sandy and I swear you could see every grain that got tracked in. I'd try to pick a lighter color...like the color of dirt! I'm also researching Wilson or WilsonArt brand. I really appreciate any opinions and suggestions!
Morning ladies!
I'm a regular lurker here, but thought I'd comeout of lurkdom to add my 2 cents.
We put Wilsonart in our family room and laundry room, sort of a golden oak and we love it. I really like how easy it cleans up. What's key here is that we have greyhounds who claim the family room as their own and regularly are lounging or galloping around, depending on mood. Haven't seen a scratch or dent yet and they are rambunctious!!
My dad also put Wilsonart in their kitchen - sort of a bleached birch color and it's beautiful.
Have a good day all!

Color is a major factor in flooring. Sure the darker the color you will see EVERYTHING YIKES !! so we went with a light almond/brown marbly looking Pergo. Can't see Susie's hair at all and that dog sheds like mad. Same for our kitchen.
Now you know Jim refinishes furniture. Everything in my house is either natural wood or stained a very very light color. You do not see scratches or dust and thats what I like because I am no slave to my home. Don't get me wrong I'm no pig either but I hate when you dust and you turn around 5 minutes later and it looks like you didn't dust
I went to the beauty shop in the little town nearby yesterday, which is a clearing house for information and gossip! This town is so small that a person can drive through it in less then four minutes! Anyway, us ladies got to talking about floors and old farmhouses. One suggested that we look at the condition of the original floor before we think of laminated flooring. I suspect that it is pine judging from the haunted hallway upstairs. Another lady said that when she removed the old carpeting, she discovered that the edges of the floor was done in good wood and the center in cheaper wood. In those days carpeting or linoleum was used in the middle. I think my grandparents house was done lie that. So, we are thinking of inspecting the flooring before making a dicision.
(Yes, this house has ghosts but I can't talk about them much. Am afraid they will trash my computer. One time I was chatting about them on the CB radio and it fried. DH looked at the wiring and it was NOT anything he had done! Scarey!)
