Question Splenda question for Low carbers!

I have recently been doing the low carb thing, and consequently have relied on Splenda quite a bit. I think it's a great product!?! However, I have noticed a stall in weight loss and started to do a little research. I am dissapointed to say that I found some disturbing comments and articles about Splenda (or sucralose) while surfing the net. Now, I know not to trust everything I read while doing that, but here are some of the statements:
* spikes insulin like sugar does
* is toxic because it is essentially chlorinated sugar
* causes personality changes (I haven't noticed that!) i.e. depression, lethargy

Hmmm? I'd be interested to know if anyone tests their blood sugar here, and if they do notice a spike after sucralose consumption??? I really hope none of the above is true, because I like cooking with Splenda. Any feedback would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Ophelia,

You will find if you research ANY artificial sweetner or fat subsitute the dangers involved.

When I read how the FDA squeezed nutrasweet thru the market I almost died and the affects this stuff has on you is horriable.

For instance my boss was having heart palpitation and other problems, now let me tell you this woman is so fit it would make you sick, you could bounce a quarter of her stomach. Well she research the artificial sweetners and she nearly passed out. To make a long story short.....she stoped using the stuff and she felt better. The headachs and heart problems did not come back.

I love diet sodas and I do drink some but only on occasion. I drink alot of unsweetened stuff like tea or seltzer w/lemon.

This is only my opinion !!!!
Love, Leens

Leens,
THanks for the reply. I've been doing some research today and it almost gets more confusing ready articles that totally contradict each other.
Here is some info from the ADA:

As a matter of fact, yes, Splenda and other artificial sweeteners CAN act the same as regular old sugar when it is substituted. Your body doesn't recognize the difference between sugar and artificial sweeteners, just that it's sweet and the chemical procesesses taking place in your body react the same. A lot of newcomers to low carb make the same mistake--too much artificial sweetener which can cause stalls. When you do use it, make sure it is never more than once a day as it can spike your insulin levels as much as sugar can!

Nope never tried it....I just figure if its fake it can't be to good for you. Not enough tests or time has elapsed for me to try these new artificial sweetners / fats. Its really scary. Olean is another bad one.....thats the fat sub that they make WOW chips out of. What Olean does is strip your body of any vitamins and minerals it needs but making fat and other stuff pass thru your body at a rapid rate......this is not good...plus it causes distress on your intestins.

I work for a pharmacutical company and let me tell you, I've heard enough horror stories to be anybody guinea pig.

Sorry to be such a party pooper.......

Love Leens
