Boobs and Bras

I'm posting here cause I figured I'd get more replies here than in the body image section, but this is kind of a combo bra AND body image post so I'm putting it here. But here we go:

I hate my boobs. I used to love my boobs. Because before I lost weight, my boobs were awesome! They had a bit more sag than is appropriate for my age, but well, I was an overweight child and my boobs grew in that way so I couldn't really do anything about that. However, despite that, my boobs looked AWESOME in bras and for this reason, that was always something I loved about my boobs.

But now, since I've lost weight, they are a wrinkly mess of loose skin and I went up to the lingerie dept of the store I work in today to get a bra to match some underwear I had because we had bras on sale, and my heart and relationship with my boobs has been broken. I tried on 6 different bras ranging from a 34D-DD to a 36D (probably should've thrown in 36DD) and NOTHING fit or looked right because the SKIN has no where to go. I can't have nice cleavage anymore because of my skin. And if I can fit the boob in the cup and have that look okay, the skin/fat/whatever that is on the sides spills out and looks like a nasty wrinkly mess. IDK if it was just the way the bras were made or if it was my boobs, but either way, I hate my boobs.

I'm trying to convince myself it was the bras I tried on, but I can't help thinking that my boobs are never going to look right in a bra anymore or that I can't wear pretty bras anymore because my boobs are going to look atrocious in them. I don't WANT to get breast augmentation, but I seriously think that's the only way to get my boobs to look like normal boobs again. If I were older I might not be worried so much, but I'm only 22! I don't want to have saggy, wrinkly boobs at such a young age. It makes me feel SO unattractive! And I feel like the only place I can buy decent bras anymore is Victoria's Secret because department store bras just suck, or at least the ones I've tried on do. I just don't know what to do and I want to love my boobs again and feel attractive and I just don't know how to do that anymore.

-sigh-

I am thinking you might not have the right cup size. I have several bras that are all the same cup size, but a few of them have the perfect cup that is supportive and takes care of the oozy mess of side boobage.

Right now I can wear a 34DD.. but I have the boob spillage in that particular bra, so I wear a 36DD. It's a bit big in the cup in the front.. but it contains the sides well.

I would have gone and tried the DD and you might have found the happiness you were looking for.

mimsyborogoves 10-13-2012 09:32 PM

Well, the bra I'm wearing right now is a definite too big at 38DD that I bought on accident; my other bras that I wear on the regular are a 36DD, and I'm wearing them on the 3rd hook. I measure 33" around the ribcage and 38" at the bust, which I would think puts me at a 34DD, but neither of the 34DDs I tried on fit right. I had 6 bras, two of each size (34D, 34DD, and 36D) and none of them fit right. It really was frustrating.

livelaughlovesunshin 10-13-2012 10:03 PM

Have you thought of having your size measured professionally? The right size bra really makes all the difference. I had mine done a couple of months ago and they look so much better.

mimsyborogoves 10-13-2012 10:37 PM

I've been fitted at Lane Bryant and Victoria's Secret; got a perfect fit at LB at the time when I was wearing a 38DD, and Vicky S measured me at a 38D and I came out with the 36DD's that I'm wearing now, lol. I haven't been measured since then, and that was probably around the end of May/beginning of June.

dstalksalot 10-13-2012 11:05 PM

If you measure 33, I would go with the 34 inch band maybe even 32 and work from there. You want to stick with your measurements to get the most support out of your band. (Don't go up.)Try a 32 and 34 DD and 34 DDD/F in several brands. Go to Norstroms and try the European brands like Panache and see what you like the best. Once you find a brand you like, you can easily get those brands on eBay for way cheaper.

dstalksalot 10-13-2012 11:15 PM

Oh and don't forget to scoop under your arms and get all of the breast tissue in the cup. You may need a bigger cup size.

juliastl27 10-14-2012 03:36 AM

this site may have some answers

http://www.herroom.com/solve-bra-siz...ms,909,30.html

mimsyborogoves 10-14-2012 07:07 AM

Here's an issue that site didn't address: What about tissue on the sides? Like I have skin/fat on either side of my rib cage that just about spills over no matter what kind of bra I wear, and it's not really going away either. It's just becoming loose skin. I don't know what to do about that other than wear Vicky S (or similar) bras that have extra fabric on the sides.

juliana77 10-14-2012 11:08 AM

I am in the same boat. I have to try on at least 10 bras before I find one that's "ok" - you will know when you find it, because that side skin stays in. lol! You do have to "scoop" it into the cup. I can't wear anything with a low cut cup, because it's just that damn wrinkly skin falling out of the top/sides. I tried one that was a push-up and I actually gasped at the cleavage it created... don't know how it did it... but it wasn't worth the amount of armpit and back fat that it created out of thin air.

Mountain Mamma 10-15-2012 01:05 PM

Is it possible, especially since you are young, that some of the extra skin will abate with time?

krampus 10-15-2012 02:56 PM

I can offer no counsel re: actually having boobs, but I am literally rocking just nipples and feeling bad about my (lack of) boobs, too. I almost had a tantrum yesterday when I tried on a 32AA bra where the cups were roomy. My side fat is gone, which I should be excited about, but the muscle sticks out now and I feel like a crossdresser trying on low-cut underwire bras that aren't super-padded.

I guess I'll turn my attention to bench press to create pecs...sigh.

Ksquared 10-15-2012 03:32 PM

I would try a 34F then.. go up a cup size also.. Try a Balconette bra. I find those are the best at supporting from underneath and keeping the side fat from spilling over the side. The full cups don't have the fabric at the side like Balconettes do.

mimsyborogoves 10-15-2012 07:44 PM

I went to Victoria's Secret today, and their 34DDs fit pretty well; I've noticed all the bras I've tried on there have extra material on the sides that contain side fat pretty well. However, that size alone (I haven't even attempted a 34DDD/F or a 32DD; they are nonexistent in stores around me) is SO hard to find! The closest thing we have to Nordstrom around me is Belk or Dillards, and my experience from the original post happened at Belk. I tried on bras again last night at Kohl's and found a 34DD that fit pretty well, but I wasn't really a fan of the bra itself. I hate that just because I have an awkward size I'm forced to shop online... I hate shopping online for things like that. Mail-in returns are such a hassle, and it's too expensive for me to buy multiple sizes of every bra I like just so I can send the ones that don't fit right back.

ChickieChicks 10-15-2012 07:58 PM

I have found F's at Nordstrom and DDD at Dillard's. They aren't super adorable...but it's nice to not buy everything online!

soulpatrol 10-15-2012 08:40 PM

I feel your frustration!!! Its interesting to see this post as i was bra shopping this weekend i was 220 and now 179. So i needed a new Bra desperatly. Nothing looked right, fit right. So i gave up and just bought a sports bra and figured im not done losing weight yet. But i cant imagine what my boobs are gona look like when im done UGH

1spunkygal 10-15-2012 09:04 PM

I agree it's the Genie bra's for me right now until I'm "my real size"

shcirerf 10-16-2012 12:13 AM

I am totally convinced that MEN design bras!

Bra shopping, "SUCKS"!!!!!!

Dear Bra makers, please consult the people who REALLY buy bras! Catalog models do not need them.

Let's get real about bras! I own a ton and hate them all!

I own expensive bra's and they still are awful.:?::devil:

GobabyGoGO 10-16-2012 05:40 AM

I think you need to go up a cup size. It sounds like there is not enough room for you flesh.

SoMuchFattitude 10-16-2012 07:34 AM

I 100% feel your pain. I used to love my boobs. And now? meh. They make me sad and they make me feel old. I'm actually saving up for a boob job when I hit my goal weight. I don't want any size, just pickem' up and puttem' back where they belong ffs.

Anyhow, I'm a 36F now. I was a 38F at my heaviest. My boobs aren't going anywhere. DH is thrilled. Anyhow, Lane Bryant is the only store that fits me well. VS aren't big enough and everyone else looks like it's for a 89yr old woman.

I love the plunge bra at LB. It gives me the best cleavage without the wrinkles. I buy from them when they do their buy2-get2.

I'd get refitted - if I were you.

Good Luck!

mimsyborogoves 10-16-2012 09:56 AM

Well, I'm pretty sure I know for a fact I'm a 34 band because when I put all the 34s on, no matter what, I can only get it to the first hook. It's very likely a 32 wouldn't even close on me, much like when I was trying on 36s vs. 34s. I know I'm not a D, so I think at this point it just depends on how the bra is cut. When I was at VS yesterday, their cotton full-coverage style fit perfectly (in a 34DD), but I couldn't try on in multiple styles because out of the collection I was trying (2 for 49.50), the full coverage was the only style that had my size in the store. I did look at their return policy online, and it looks like I can do returns for online purchases in the store, so I might be making a purchase soon. I can't decide if I should go ahead and get some now, or wait a little bit longer, because I would hate to buy a bunch of new bras only to have them be too small again in a little while.

That's a scary thought; I don't want to get any smaller in the ribcage area. I think I'd look like a skeleton at that point; there's not much there now to begin with. =/

ChickieBoom 10-16-2012 09:57 AM

I think that when you need a larger cup size...Victoria's Secret is NOT the answer. They will measure you and try to put you into a size that they actually carry. Go to Nordstrom if there's one near you. They will give you a proper fitting and they're honest. If they don't carry the size you need, they will tell you. Victoria's Secret will go up a band size just to put you into one of their bras. Don't despair...I've lost 55 pounds and my cup size hasn't changed! I went from a 40H to a 38H and I'm not thrilled.

I buy the Vicky S bras, but I don't even bother with the sales people there unless they bother me or I need them to find my size in a certain style. I measure myself for my own bra size because no one around here except Lane Bryant does it properly, so I guess I could go to Lane Bryant and get fitted and just buy my bras elsewhere. There isn't a Nordstrom close to me. Right now, Victoria's Secret is the only place I know to shop that's has a variety of sizes in bras that I would actually wear with a no-hassle return policy. That's why I feel kind of doomed, because I want to be able to shop somewhere besides Victoria's Secret but I don't want the hassle of making returns online if things don't fit.

According to the store I went to originally, I'd wear a 38AA according to their size chart. Uh, what?

I feel your frustration. I don't know what my boobs are going to look like as I continue to lose weight. I'm ok with the size...it's just the sagging that depresses me. Maybe try sizing yourself and ordering something online? I know that a lot of the bra specific websites have all kinds of sizes. Good luck!

This isn't it for me. The top of the cup is empty... the skin spills out the sides before it fills up the cup completely. Frustrating!

This happens to me if I wear a full coverage bra. I look for demi or plunge bras since they are lower cut on the top of the cup. I also have to bend forward & scoop everything into the cup when I put it on.

InspiredBy 10-28-2012 03:02 AM

I can't get bras that fit right anywhere but Victoria's Secret or Nordstrom.

If you haven't been to Nordstrom, try going! Prices are about the same, mostly they only have black and nude stuff (I'm wearing about the same size you do) but they have kinda more "full" shapes, you know, with more material in every direction of the cup to contain all you have in every way the best way ;)

Victoria's Secret has way cuter things. But Nordstrom bras fit a whole lot better.

Worth a try! :)

Going4Lean 10-29-2012 09:32 PM

Wow, I guess I best consider myself one of the lucky ones, in the fact that I love that my boobs went bye bye!:D

At the beginning of my weight loss, at 185lbs, my chest measured 40 inches (top B/low C). I could only really wear the sport type (stretchy material) bras, cause my boobs had no fullness in the top area, so I just didn't have enough to fill the cups and they fit horribly. So I just went for smooshed and tight!;)

Fast forward to today (chest measures 30") and I no longer have bra issues...mostly cause I really don't need one!! Yep, I'm happily down to 34A or 32A, depending on the bra. I pretty much only wear a bra if I'm wearing a light colored top.

But the best part is, that due to being consistent with doing incline chest presses, my peck muscles have increased my upper breast fullness and the loss of fat has removed the heaviness, so I no longer have the problem with sagging, like I used to.:cloud9:

mimsyborogoves 10-30-2012 08:59 PM

Update:

I went bra shopping again today. I'm a 34DDD, like some of you suggested and I refused to believe, lol. This confuses the CRAP out of me because my measurements don't add up.

If I measure around my ribcage, I come to 33", give or take maybe a quarter inch each time. Here lately, measuring around my bust yields a 37. That's a 34D, last time I checked, right?? How the heck did I end up with a DDD?

LeilaJey 10-30-2012 09:35 PM

Are you measuring over your bust leaning forward, with or without a bra? Either way trying on bras is generally the best way (when you know what to look for) to go and measurements are a guide as different brands fit differently.

mimsyborogoves 10-30-2012 11:00 PM

You're supposed to bend over when you measure your bust? Maybe that's why I come up with a smaller measurement... I don't bend over, lol!

mountain walker 10-31-2012 09:17 AM

Bravissimo don't measure you....they go by look and fit and yes they get you to bend over ( mine practically scraped the floor!)
Mine have shrunk.....I was a 46G and now I am a 42 F and when I lie down they don't bunch up under my chin cutting off oxygen!
I am 46 and I have a feeling that by the time I have reached my goal I will have what my Mum used to call "spaniel's ears!":(:(

toastedsmoke 11-01-2012 11:39 PM

mountainwalker: I'm 26 and I definitely have spaniel ears. I've gone from a 44J to a 32E and it's taken a toll. I don't regret one pound though.

mimsy: I'm getting a 32E or a 34DD for you so I suppose it's plausible that you could be a 34 DDD depending on how tight or loose you're holding the tape around your band and bust. The important thing is that you've found your right size!!! :carrot: :carrot:
