Default Inbetween sizes...what do I do?

So I'm in the market for a pair of brown slacks, but the problem is that I'm in between sizes. I tried on a pair that I've had my eye on for awhile in a 14, and I can JUST fit into them but they were too tight to be able to wear comfortably. I'm discovering that any time I try on a 14 -- I'm almost there, but not quite. And I can tell by the way the 16s I already wear now that, although they fit and look okay, I'm on my way out of them.

I need the pants pretty soon; I only have 2 pairs of work pants and it's getting frustrating having to wash them every time I turn around and as they're black and grey, it kinda makes my outfit choices kind of slim! What would y'all suggest I do for this situation?

not sure what you do for work, but would a skirt with an elastic waistband be any good for you? it could tide you through til you make it to 14.

Try different brands and different waist heights. Brands vary in size so you should be able to find one that fits.

When loosing I always sized down. Remember that often times these pants have stretch in them so they will fit different after the first hour. Plus, even two weeks can make a difference in fit.

If you are confident you will get down in size, buy the smaller size that you like and you can rubber band the button hole closed until you can fit into them. I don't recommend this unless you are super close...:-)

I have been buying frequently at the good will to have the variety that I need and I have been buying down a size ever other size depending on the color.

I buy the smaller size and just wear them with a long top the first few times. They do stretch out during the day! And it's always fun the last time I am able to wear a particular pair because they have gotten too big - to remember that first day when I wasn't sure if they were too scandalous to wear in public

I agree with this advice. I always have to try on different cuts/styles/sizes at different stores to find the right fit. Buying a smaller size doesn't work for me because I end up feeling uncomfortable and a bit like a stuffed sausage. There's also the option of buying the larger size and having it taken in.

There's an interesting aspect of being a 14/16. It's that they usually make both 16W and 16 regular. (plus size vs non plus size) The W size is a bit bigger, so I should ask if your stuff you're trying on is that? If it is you can go down to the 16 regular.

If you're trying on a regular 14 and it's too tight, you might be able to find a 14W (although I think those are more rare and 16 is usually the cutoff)

I'm currently in a 16 regular; 16W is too big. 14 regular is too tight. Thanks for the advice, though, guys! I'm gonna keep looking and losing til I find the right thing!

When you're planning on losing weight, it's best to buy the pants tight. They'll last you through a few more weight changes that way.

I skipped a few sizes doing that.

I wore 12L for a while because they were a tiny bit bigger than 12R.. you can get them taken up if they're too long. I might have longish legs as they weren't too long on me but maybe it was just the fit.

I am your same height and am currently fitting in a14 missis. The 14W is also working for me at this point as are some looser 16's I think it all depends on the cut and fit. Don't get too hung up on what the number says.
