Default Red bumps on arms ... "chicken skin"

I've heard it referred to as many things, but does anyone suffer from those annoying red bumps on your upper arm area? Any suggestions on getting rid of or lessening? I've tried scrubs, creams and lotions with no success Ugh, i hate sleeveless shirts! Summer does help it a bit with the sun!

Yep, it's called keratosis pilaris. Most of what I have read about it says it usually improves with age. Unfortunately mine has gotten worse.
I have never found anything that really makes a significant difference, but moisturizing, and using a loofah, and exfoliating helps.

It really does make a difference when I get some sun, for the better.
I have it on my lower arms now too

I have been considering lately going to a dermatologist about it finally. But with my weight I keep covered up a lot anyway. So figure when I start to want to show some skin I will go and see if I can help it. LOL

It is definitely hereditary unfortunately. So luck of the draw.
There are websites devoted to it and message support forums as well where people talk about different things they are trying, what works, and what doesn't if you google keratosis pilaris.

I have it, and its gotten better as I've gotten older... thank God. All the women in my family have it.

Mine also gets better with sun!

I've been "treating it" by washing my arms with the same stuff I use to wash my face. I then exfoliate once a day with a sugar scrub, and then I rinse with the hottest water I can stand, lol.. Then I use a non-pore-clogging moisturizer. I've been doing this for 3 weeks, and I can already tell a difference. Or its in my head, lol, but they feel better to me, so that's all that matters.

Google around. I found several remedies online.

I have those too! I never knew what it was called, but now I know.

They also lessen for me with the sun. The more tan I am, the less noticible they are.

Not to mention, my son has them BAD on his arms and legs. The doc gave us super duper moisturizer when I brought it up - didn't work.

Jeeez, you learn something new every day.

I think I know what you're talking about. What helps a LOT is if you never, ever pick at it. Like, never.

If you basically don't touch it, but you keep exfoliating and moisturizing and getting sun, it basically clears up. If you pick at it, it scars and they show when you get tanner.

Wow!! Thank you all for the responses. I guess I'm not alone! Thankfully, summer is close, so hopefully it'll make it less noticeable. I'll have to go Google now

I've had this FOREVER. I've found a couple things that work pretty well.

Cheap help - goat milk soap along with a salicylic acid scrub - I like Neutrogena pink grapefruit.

Expensive help - Amlactin XL cream. http://www.drugstore.com/amlactin-xl...=amlactin%20xl It's almost $30, but it works really well on arm bumps. Bonus - it's the best callus removing foot cream, too!

Mine has disappeared since I have lost weight. I don't know if was related to the weight, to a more nutritious diet (I've heard it can be caused by vitamin A deficiency), or what.

I have that too, on both my upper arms and my thighs. I used to worry about it, but now not so much. It seems that it's really, really common. I was surprised when I looked at other people's arms during t-shirt weather just how many people have it too! It doesnt bother me any more, as no-one really notices.

I have KP and use Glytone (recommended above by DaugT) for it. It's expensive, but it works, and your skin feels amazing after using it.

I also use Amlactin when I don't have Glytone.

yep, i have this too. its worst on my upper arms, but i can also get it on the backs of my thighs as well. attractive! lucky for me though, i have freckles all over my shoulders and down my arm as well, so it blends in.

i second the use of a lotion with lactic acid in it (AmLactin or LacHydrin). they feel kinda funny and sometimes actually sting a little bit, for me. you can get these lotions at cvs, walgreens, etc

I'll have to try the Glytone when my Amlactin is gone - just started a new tube. I got a great deal on it the first time I bought it - $6 during a store-closing sale. It works so well, I'm willing to pay full price for it, though.
