Overworking yourself

  • I know there is a similar thread about this but I want to concentrate on how do you personally FEEL when you are overworking yourself? I used to do two-a-days and it made me lose weight pretty fast but I became obsessed. Now I'm doing ChaLean Extreme and sometimes I add on some cardio on the weight days later in the day. Then my mom always tells me I should stop working out so much. I've gotten a cold twice throughout the ChaLean routine (end of month 1 for a few days and just now I got over a NASTY cold which lasted 8-9 days so I missed a lot working out). I want to get back on the routine now but I'm kind of afraid that what if working out lke this DOES make your immune system weaker?

How do I know if I'm working too hard, like, what physical symptoms do I see? Are there any supplements I can take to improve my immune system (besides Vit C) and make my body more efficient at healing and recovering?
  • For whatever reason, I feel like I am more apt to get sick when I am working out intensively. I was running 5 miles a day at the beginning of the year, but got super worn out-type sick and stopped. Recovered in about a week, but have been taking it easy ever since.

I know this doesn't really answer your question, but this is just my personal experience.
  • Studies show that those who work out regularly have boosted immune systems.

The midwest has had two major outbreaks of freaky sickness this late winter. The pukey thing and the respiratory thing. It is my guess that the bug was in you and the timing of your work out just made it worse. Same thing happened to me. I haven't been sick like this in over 4 years. Before that, it was 6 years.

Twice in ten years aint so bad!

That said, you can run yourself down. Take breaks every month or so to recover during this time of the year would be my advice.

As far as supplements go, that's for someone else to answer. I did learn recently, that the different blood types require different nutrition. Maybe something to consider.

The most important thing is to reduce your caloric intake during times of rest. What goes in must be burned.

Ohh okay I don't feel as bad anymore. I had TERRIBLE chest congestion and difficulty breathing during this last cold. It was brutal and scary cause i've never really had that problem before. Thanks for the reply
  • Are you sick? I'm no doctor, but it makes sense to me that chest congestion would hinder oxygen consumption/utilization causing the effect of fatigue.

I'm in the way upper mid west. I heard it is 80 in Chicago. Seems like conditions are improving and I'm sure you will, too.
  • I've read that it's very important to have good Vitamin D levels. It would be nice to find out what your levels are the next time you go in for a physical. You can supplement with Vitamin D3 on a regular basis just to be sure because that does boost the immune system.

I also workout too much. I think you can tell if you just feel drained and exhausted.

The best way to keep the immune system strong is to eat a healthy diet consisting of whole foods, plenty of raw dark/leafy green veggies, lots of color in the diet (not just green but blue, red, orange), take a good probiotic, consume enough protein, and drink lots of water and things like white tea (which is supposed to be better than green tea).

I hope that helps a little.

Is it really? Wow i definitely have to look into that! I'm a total tea drinker too, but I don't think I've had any white tea before! THanks!
