Default Abandoning the scale for 3 weeks

I've decided to not step on my scale for the next 3 weeks. Last time I stepped on it I weighed more than my starting weight (after a week of binging) and I realized continuous knowledge of how much I weigh really makes me obsessed when I diet. I have been counting calories for the past few days and hoping to keep it up for a long long time. I'm trying to work on my body image and self esteem issues for the 3 weeks without having the scale affect my view of myself.

Thoughts?
Any good body image boosters you girls do?

I think that's a great idea! I wish I was strong enough to ignore the scale, but Im addicted . Something that really boosts my emotions is making sure I always look and feel great. It may sound simple but I make sure to put in a lot of effort into how I look. I take long baths, Fix my hair to make it nice and bouncy, and dress up nicely. I refuse to allow my weight to stop me from dressing up. So What if the pants im wearing are a 14 or a 12?! I do my nails myself and make sure that I have no body or facial hair. When i let myself go I am much more inclined to binge or to throw in the towel. These simple things really help with your body image. It keeps me motivated. I just think to myself I feel great now, imagine how this would feel If I could wear that size 6 dress in my closet. Tell yourself you are beautiful everyday.

Another thing is keeping everything around you clean and orderly. A clean house and more importantly a clean kitchen keeps the mind at ease and more focused on weightloss.

What matters most is that it works for you. Weighing yourself after known binging is probably not doing your self esteem any favors and it would appear the binging needs to be the focus - not the number on the scale.

Put a post-it on the scale if you need to with your date in which the scale can be open for business again. I do well with post-its, small goals, and nice reminders.

For me I try to be really grateful that my body is strong and free from physical limitations. I pretty quickly will try and shutdown the self talk nit-picking every single thing that is aesthetically disappointing - and trust me, I could make a LONG list in that unhelpful department.

Good personal challenge for you. Stick with it.

I had to respond to this - that is TOTALLY true for me as well. I have a very specific night and AM routine just for the way I want the house. It has made a world of difference.

I also agree that making sure you personally feel put together does help set the determination tone.

I am so glad you brought this up. This makes a lot of sense, I never really connected the dots before. Every time I would binge and feel like crap and get depressed because of it, I would also let myself go in other ways, I would stop doing my makeup, dressing up, smiling, etc. It's all related I guess. I did read somewhere that the best way to keep your body image up is to "BE VAIN". Not an easy task but I am trying to get there. Maybe not exactly vain, but what you described with the dressing up every day and caring more about how I look. Thanks!
