Default oily hair!?!

do any of yall have tips for getting rid of greasy hair? i wash my hair religiously, every day with Pantene Clarifying shampoo. i can't wash my hair at night, because i will wake up in the morning with greasy hair! it gets super gross after about 6 hours and i have to put it up.

i've been tryin to figure out what to do. could it be that i've washed it too much and it's dried out, equaling over production of oil? or is it that i use too much shampoo or wash too often? i've also used this shampoo for YEARS, so maybe it's no longer got the same effect?

any info is appreciated! i've been lookin for a new shampoo but can't find any that caters to de-greasing! DH said it's probably because they're all aimed at doing that. gotta love him!

I'd try using a different shampoo
and see if that helps. Aussie is
a VERY great shampoo that I use.

Maybe you could try that?

I'd actually recommend no-poo. It helped when my hair decided to become greasy.

Basically, wash your hair with 1 tbsp of baking soda mixed in enough water to make it a paste. Scrub it in, Let it sit for a few moments.

Rinse with black tea (if you have dark hair) or a little lemon juice mixed in water (if you have light hair).

Nelie,

How often do you do the baking soda mixture? I am interested in trying this. My hair actually isn't oily but a little dry--wondering if shampoo is making it so dry.

I heard mixing a couple of drops of tea tree oil into the amount of shampoo you usually use, then lathering up and letting it stay on for a few minutes before rinsing helps.
It helped me some.
Also, don't wash your hair every day if possible. The more you wash it, the oilier it gets.

why on earth are you using clarifying shampoo every day? any time you strip too much out of the hair it compensates by getting oilier. Don't ever wash your hair more than once a day. Find yourself a nice gentle shampoo and use it to wash your hair. But be prepared for it to get worse before it gets better. Your head has to have time to adjust to not getting stripped every day. If you are really desparate shake a little baby powder in it then brush it out.

watch the amount of product you put in your hair as well. Any product will attract dirt and lessen the time you can go between washes.

If you hair is longer than your ears get in the habit of only washing your scalp then only conditioning below your ears. Your scalp doesn't need the moisture and the ends aren't getting dirty enough to warrant washing. If you hair is shorter than your ears you likely don't need conditioner unless it has been bleached.

And I'd strongly suggest you step away from the pantene. There is a lot of wax in them usually and will only ad to the problem

btw, I'm a hairdresser.

It definitely sounds like you are over-doing it. Find a mild shampoo or skip it alltogether. I only use conditioner on my hair to wash it nowadays, and it's letting me wash every other rather than every day. I have very fine hair that gets "stringy" easily, so I always go for a cone free option.

This, but I'm not a hairdresser. My best friend is though and she tells me the exact same things.

Have you ever tried dry shampoo? My hair is naturally curly and when I straighten it it takes forever. So when I straighten it I use a spray on dry shampoo on the roots so I can go 3 or 4 days without washing it. I'm soooooo glad I found this product. And I never use it on the rest of my hair since it never looks oily. Made me rethink washing my hair everyday.

I have had fine oily hair my whole life and it sucks!

Back in high school I used to use Nexxus Exxoil - its bright green but gosh darnit did it make my overly oily teenage hair grease free! I cannot find it anymore, Nexxus is pushing their other products now I guess. I have seen Nexxus at walgreens so it is not just a salon brand anymore. Try looking for the Exxoil, or if you can find it on line try ordering a bottle, if I remember it is not expensive at all.

Now I use Tea Tree Oil shampoos, I like Sally's Beauty's generic of this. Any Tea Tree Oil/Rosemary works okay for me. It's not a miracle shampoo by any means but keeps my hair looking nice through the whole day.

Might also try Aussie Cleanse and Mend shampoo - my brother with equally greasy hair likes this one.

The brand I use is Batisse. I get it at Sally Beauty Supply. They sell an on the go version for like 2 or 3 bucks. It might be worth checking out. It could just be general bias but I wouldn't really trust a product from Tresemme to compare.

Also, if you check out Amazon.com the Tresemme dry shampoo has pretty bad reviews. Batisse and others have much better reviews. I would try another brand before giving up on dry shampoo for good!

Sorry I didn't check back on this thread. If I'm on a roll, I do it every time I wash my hair and really I basically gauge if my hair needs to be washed or not. Also, if your hair is a little dry, you might try a little apple cider vinegar in water as a rinse. (a little means under 1 tsp, i just usually use a few drops if I use ACV).
