Default Hot Topic "Extended Sizes"

Hi there.....

Just thought I'd share an experience.... I was searching online for some "hip" plus sized clothes last year and found out that hottopic.com sells extended sizes. I was desperate for some casual shirts that didn't make me look and feel ten years older or like a fat boy. Well, I took a risk and ordered the largest size of a Tshirt that I fancied, in 3x, and when it arrived I was quite disappointed. It was TINY. Holy crapola....I mean very, very snug, I cld barely fit the shirt over my chest and it didn't even reach the bottom of my belly, lol. Goodness.

I took a look at their size chart but it doesn't add up unless I'm missing something. The heighest they have for Women sizes is a 2x (even tho they sell a 3x in some shirts) and they say the conversion for that size is a size 13-15?!?

So, I think that their 3x was soooo small on me because it's made, well, very small for that size, and for Teens. So it isn't a true Women's xxxl.

Has anyone else tried any plus size clothing from Hot Topic or any other shop such as Delias, etc online? What was your experience?

Finally, somebody else who noticed that!! Torrid is also like that. I saw a cute Hello Kitty shirt in there and it had a 3x on it and I thought it was looking small... Oh yeah, in the dressing room, it didn't even come close to fitting. I am not sure who these stores are marketing to?? I have experienced this in both stores. I don't know why they can't make bigger clothes and understand we are not all size 18's even!!

Yeah I know how you feel. I used to love shopping at Hot Topic before I hit plus sizes. Their "plus sizes" are a joke. Why even bother?

I think the problem I've had with them is that they are so inconsistent! A size 20 jean which should have been snug on me (but wearable) fell off me, while a 2X shirt, which should be a bit big barely fit over my boobs. Really hard to deal with when you can only order online and have it shipped overseas. They shouldn't even bother showing a size chart because it's only exceptions that are those rules!!

I love hot topic but their clothes sizes are a bit ridiculous i mean have you seen how small a small is? one of my friends ordered a small (shes usually an xs but i told her how weird their sizes were) and she could hardly breathe in the shirt, i think its coz their trying to cater for the "the worlds not fair so I'll starve myself" generation- which sadly im a part of but i think i ate all the food they didn't

LOL! Im not the only one! Someone bought me a charlie and the chocolate factory "plus size" t-shirt there one christmas and it barely fit over my boobs and it was a size xxl. I'm more of a pear shape so usually I can wear 16 tops but this was horrible! If I ever want a cute shirt there I just always go for the unisex tops where a large or an xl fits me.

I haven't really bought girly tees at Hot Topic or Torrid, but if you like stuff that's more "indie" you may check out http://www.threadless.com/ and get the design you like in a 1x or 2x guys tee. I <3 their tees a lot.

Forever 21 is the same way. I bought a nice black sundress a couple years ago and I might as well hand it down to my kid. It will fit her before it fits me.

Thanks for the link Breezee, I'll check it out. Oh gosh, Forever 21 is awful for my self-esteem, lol. I'd be lucky to get my arm into something from that store. Oh ya know what I bought from there - scarves. A bunch of stinkin' scarves. That's all that'll fit. They are real nice. But it's depressing as ****.
Makes you feel prrretty bad when you can't fit into the plus sizes. Gotta keep in mind that its not our fault, they are made totally too small, and inconsistently.

I ordered a Shirt from Alloy Last Year, and it was a 3XL, and just like your saying just would not budge. I was like WOW. It was more like a large or extra large...lol

Yeah I noticed their sizes are crazy. You always have to go a size up.. when I was a large in every other store..I had to buy an XL.. and right now I'm a medium and I stopped shopping at Hot Topic but I'll bet I'd need a large.

I'm actually a really big fan of Torrid. Although I don't reccomend buying online. I don't live near one now, but I did in college. The thing that I found is that each shirt there varies. One shirt will be a 2 and fit like a 1 or vice versa. It's just one of those places where you have to try to see. Another thing that I noticed is that my local ROSS store carries a lot of the tops that I've seen on the Torrid site. This is overly exciting just because the tops are only like 5 dollars at ROSS

This won't help much with your search for cool clothes, but I thank God everyday that Hot Topic's sizes aren't forgiving. Hot Topic, of all things, is partially responsible for my weight loss.

Last Christmas my son picked out a hoody from there for my gift and was super excited about it. When I couldn't pull it over my arms he started crying and I promised him I'd fit into it someday. A promise you make to a crying child on Christmas morning cannot be broken, especially when the child is your 3 year old. I've been wearing it proudly for him this fall!

The sizes are def tighter. The hoody is an XL and I wear medium in anything else.

I love Torrid. I pretty much only buy my clothes from there. Although, my hubby would like it if i wouldnt spend as much, lol. I dont see any problem with the sizes either, the clothes fit me just perfect. I also love Hot Topic's clothes too. I've been wearing them since high school.
