It really matters on you.. My sister is 200 pounds and wears a 12- 13... yet I am 177 and wear a 16.. go figure lol
|
I'm 5'8". I was an 18 at 220, a 16 at 210 and 14s were tight but fitting at 195.
The thing is that when you're in the plus sizes, they tend to have a more generous range. As you get into smaller sizes, it's about an inch between them, which usually correlates to about 10 pounds or so for my frame. |
My best guess is that it depends on the shape you are when start out... I started at 190 and size 16. I just came back from the Gap...tried on a size 12 after losing only 27 pounds and they fit nicely... I lost all the weight in my hips, thighs and butt... but still have a nice size jelly roll stomach.. :)

When I started, I was in a 24W. I've lost 53lbs and fit very comfortably in a 22W, I haven't tried a 20W yet, but I'm sure it's right around the corner.

I find for every 15lb I lose, I drop a size although it depends. When I was 165 (highest weight), I wore size 12 or 14. At 155, I was about an 8/10. Now I am 140, and currently I wear a size 6/7. Today I just bought a pair of work pants from liz claiborne in a size 6 and they're lose so I assume I could fit into a 5. My final goal I've finally settled on is 125lb, which I assume will put me in a comfortable size 4. That has always been my goal, I know with my pear shaped body, I will never be a size 2, and certainly never a size 0 (which at 5 feet 7 and a medium frame would look sickly on me anyway!).

Okay, I finally have my answer! 8 months and 32 lbs to go from a Lane Bryant size 16 jean to a size 14. Finally!

This is a great thread. I'm 5'11 so when I was 305 I was a 22. I've lost 20 lbs and I'm mostly 18 but some 20's.

can't wait!
I just can't wait til I drop the 15 lbs to find out! ;)

jonsgurl - are you sure your sister is telling you the truth?? lol :) i know my own sister tends to exagerate about what sizes she is wearing :p

It all depends on the person. I dropped sizes pretty quickly, but that's because I'm an apple by default. No one would know that now, but believe me - at my highest weight, my apple shape was painfully obvious. I also had a lot of extra fat on my back and thighs, so once I lost that, fitting into smaller sizes became easier.
I wore a 12-14 at 175. I was starting to pop out of some of my clothes but refused to buy anything bigger because the idea of being truly plus sized depressed me. I noticed my size 12's were fitting comfortably (and sometimes a bit loose) at 160. At 150-155, I was wearing 10's and sometimes 8's. Once I hit 145, I could fit some 6's. By the time I reached 135 (initial goal), I wore a 4-6. I still wear 4's and 6's at 125. I think I would have to weigh around 110 to wear anything smaller, and I have no desire to get that skinny. |

I am a busty hourglass if that makes a difference. 279/ size 24 259/ size 22 239/ size 18/20 219/ size 16/18 199/ size 14-18 depending 179/ size 14 solid 159/ size 10/12 140 (current weight) 6 -10 depending on the garment and the maker. |
i was in the 14s when i was about 165-170=== at 160 i'm in the 11s and i'm going into the 9s now i'm between sizes where 11s work but are loose and some 9s fit ---i was a 16 from 185-170/5 and maternity from 185-196 --- i'm currently 7 months postpartum though

Oh interesting chart, Sharkysmachine. Let me see ... here's what I've been at as best I can remember (and keeping in mind that I was sort of in denial about my weight loss and didn't buy new clothes for a long time):
237 / 22-24 200 / 18 180 / 14-16 170 / solidly in 12 for most things I wear 160 / 10-12 depending I just dropped into the 150s (whee - 159 as of this morning) and I'm waiting to see when my next size change will take place. Also for what it's worth, I do think I could wear a smaller pants size if it weren't for the flab/loose skin around my belly. I hold (held) most of my weight in my belly and I'm still dealing with that. I could probably easily wear an 8/10 given my thigh and waist size, but the hips/belly do me in. :) . |
