What kind of rewards do yourself with when you've had a victory or reached a goal?
For example, I have a little "wish" pillow in my nightstand. It's just a cute little pillow that has a pocket. I'm going to put some cash away each time I lose 5 lbs. Then I'll treat myself to some new clothes, perfume or makeup when I reach a set goal (not necessarily my final goal, could be after 20 or 30 lbs. or just when I'm feeling like I deserve to treat myself to something nice).
Please share your rewards. I'm curious to hear everyone's ideas.
I like to buy a new nail/toe polish color. It fits, no matter my current size, and makes me feel pretty! When I reach a significant goal (more than 5 lbs), I like to treat myself to new makeup from Sephora or Victoria's Secret! Ohh la la!
My mum is a shopaholic and she's always sending me boxes of clothes. Lately she sent me a couple of VERY nice things that are just a tad too small for me (she knew they were too small). They're both motivation and reward when I get there.
I made a list of "rewards" that I choose from for every 10# lost.
They include:
* A pedicure
* Perfume (I love Liz Claiborn and Tommy Girl)
* A new charm for my charm bracelet
* A new cell phone
* Some cute summer shoes
* Some new jewelry (earrings, necklace, etc) Costume of course, Not made
of money here!
* A funky new purse for spring
* Hair color & highlights
* Some cute panties and bras
* Some nice clothes to wear while I am losing weight
So every time I drop 10#, I get to pick from my list. The charm is my last reward when I drop all 45.5#.
It keeps me motivated to keep the weight loss going!
I like to reward myself for all of my hard work! I have a 'system' in place for myself. I choose a reward and then for each on plan day I give myself a sticker. When I get 14 stickers, I earn that reward. They don't have to be 14 consecutive days, but so far they have been. So far my rewards have been a new pair of earrings and a pedicure. I need to pick my next reward!!
I didn't have pre-set up rewards but when I lost 60 I bought a ring on Etsy. When I lost 80 I bought a necklace on Etsy, and when I lost 100 I got a brand new road bike.
I'm at my goal weight now, but I gave myself "rewards" for every 5 # along the way. It was always something small, like some of the things listed above, but something I really wanted. And I couldn't have it untill I lost the weight.
Now, I reward myself with a new charm for my Pandora Charm bracelet for every month I don't gain. Going on 4 charms now. This bracelet is going to look pretty awsome this summer!
When I reach goal I do my happy dance. Right there beside the scale in my bra and panties. Then I praise myself in my Healthy Living Journal. Throughout the day I tell everyone in my support system that I made goal. And I stand there and accept their congrats and know that I am deserving of their compliments.
I've been thinking about rewards for a bit now. I know some are things I look forward to -- being able to hike up a particular trail without being out-of-breath, being able to wear my wedding rings. There's one big one - letting hubby buy me a ring for our 25th (I wouldn't let him buy one for our 20th because I didn't want to have to re-size when I lose weight!). But I find I easily lose track of my successes (and, of course, berate myself for every little hiccup!) So I'm going to steal mj5's stickers idea (hope you don't mind!) to do some daily tracking and smaller rewards for each 10 lbs. I think the stickers will be a good visual encouragement for me, and there are so many varieties that I can have a little fun with them too!
Every ten pounds I give myself a home spa day--manicure, deep-condition my hair, home facial. When I reach my half-way goal of the Onederfuls, I am going to give myself a professional facial and back massage.
For my 10 pound weight loss, I went and got a haircut.
For 20 pounds, I would love to get a new outfit.
I am about 5.5 pounds away from my 10%, so I'll splurge on something then too.
At first I tried a reward every 5 or 10 lbs, but I ended up discouraged because my weight loss has been very, VERY slow...usually .1 to .3 lbs per week. So it was taking FOREVER for a reward or treat on my little reward schedule, so I had to adjust.
Now I have lists, like many others' lists I read on this thread. I have two, though. One list is very small, inexpensive things I can treat myself to for every 1# lost---like those Bonne Belle nail polishes and lip glosses that are usually less than $1 each, or $1 organic fruit leather (1 pt for two pieces!), or something like that. Small, but makes me feel like I've accomplished something.
Then, for bigger goals (3-10lbs) I have a second list...it's a wish list of bigger things that I've been wanting, and I add to it whenever I think of something. This list has included new shirts, a pair of shoes, specific books/movies that recently came out, good-quality makeup (have I mentioned I love makeup? ) , going to see a movie, jewelry, household stuff (believe it or not, treating myself to decent cleaning equipment has worked for me in the past!! It's amazing what you wish for when you're trying to scrub doggy drool off a windowpane with water and toilet paper!), etc.
For my "final" goal (my current goal is 175, which is a loss of 10% of my starting weight), my dad has been very supportive and he has said that when I reach the 20# mark, he will give me some "fun money." So when I reach that goal, I'm going to take a photo of the scale reading, and email it to him. My family has been very supportive of me, as most of them are trying to get fit as well, so that has been probably the best reward!
Well..I've only set myself up with one goal. And that was to lose 5 pounds and buy new shoes. Only, I lost the 5 pounds but all the shoes I looked at sucked. So those are on hold, lol.
I pretty much dont really set up goals for myself because I go shopping ALL the time, so I always end up with something new, lol.
But I do have a different kind of goal set up for this summer. I wanna lose 5 or 10 pounds and then get my tongue pierced. Then the next 5 pounds I lose, I'll get another tattoo. Then after that, get my hair professionally colored, etc.
For every 5 pounds I lose I reward myself. The rewards get bigger/better the more weight I lose. These are some of the things on my list:
* New nail polish & decals
* New shoes (not tennis shoes--nice shoes)
* 15 iTunes songs for my iPod
* New purse and purse cubby to store all of them in
* Trip to a day spa
When I reach my goal, I want a trip to Disneyland and a party!
I am also going to set up maintenance rewards. Such as, for every 6 months I stay at or below my target weight I get a non-food treat, like a pro make-up lesson, some glamourous pictures taken in a studio, and so on. I also love the charm idea, and may steal it!
As another poster said, I pick things that I really want to have but won't buy until I lose the weight so they really are treats for me.
