  • Anyone know of a good wax or something? It's so embarrassing and plucking takes a long time but I don't want to just use any wax. Suggestions?
  • If you want to wax it yourself then I would suggest using a wax that's for your face. They make special waxes just for that. If you have never waxed your face before then maybe going and having someone else do it for you would be a good idea. I have a thing about inflincting that sort of pain on myself....YOWZERS!!! I would rather let someone else do it to me.
  • a beautician told me once that you shouldnt wax the face AT ALL as it thins the skin and causes wrinkles and folds.

so i pluck the eyebrows or have them threaded (indian hair removal technique) and i actually shave the 2 or 3 small hairs i get on the lip... she told me thats the best thing to do and that it doesnt make it grow back any quicker or anything, thats a total myth.

i dont even wax my bikini line, i use cream hair remover... i wax my legs sometimes but i prefer cream hair removers as i have sensitive skin anyways
  • I used to wax my eyebrows but I noticed I always had bad acne in the area after waxing. I almost never get pimples otherwise, so I blame the wax. I don't know if other types would stop that from happening (I used the Sally Hanson stuff) but if you do wax I would be really careful to clean the area before and after and avoid using the oil they suggest you use afterwords. Just apply some ice to the area, it works to get rid of redness and pain without causing major breakouts.
  • The only thing I have found to prevent the breakouts after waxing or cream hair removal is lanolin.

I'm a plucker of the black hair. When the blond thin stuff gets annoying I get out DH's beard and mustache trimmer and buzz it off.
  • Thanks for the suggestions!
  • Threading all the way. It's like multitasked tweezing. And none of the side effects of getting chemicals put on your face. You should be able to find a place in Lansing that does it. I've got a friend there, I can ask if you want.
  • i cant wax....
    im too sensitive....
  • Huh. I wax everything and always have. Never had a problem with my face ... or anything else for that matter.

After having had it done for several years, I can def. tell that the hair that grows back is finer and more sparse. I figure another couple of years and I can quit doing my legs completely!

  • Quote: so i pluck the eyebrows or have them threaded (indian hair removal technique)

I do the same. I prefer the threading technique. I think they make my eyebrows look better than with waxing although I am guilty of waxing in times of crisis...(I'm slightly OCD about my eyebrows).

But I think threading is an AWESOME alternative.

Note: When I do use wax, I use Sally Hansen Wax Strips for Face/Bikini. It's smooth and I don't have any problems with any of my hair coming out. (With some of them I do)
  • Could I suggest electrolysis? I had some really icky, thick dark hairs on my face (lip and chin areas - I felt like my Grandma! ) and was plucking all the time. Finally got up the nerve to see an electrologist and I'm so glad I did.

It's not a miracle (a bit time-consuming, somewhat expensive, a bit more painful than plucking) but I loved it. My chin and lip are totally smooth now and the hair will NEVER grow back.

The woman I went to suggested that I get my eyebrows done but the hair there is lighter and didn't matter much to me. But you'd better believe I would go back if I found more of those little chin hairs!
  • I use wax for a while and let me tell you, it was a pain to find the right one. I think the best is cold easy wax roll-on by Nair. For 2 reasons. A. It does not irritate the skin and B. even if your hand slips and you coat an area by mistake it dissolves naturally with water, so no fear with getting something lost in the process.
  • I use an epilator and it hurt like heck the first few times I used it. Made me cry and everything. Now it still hurts but not like heck, lol, and does the job without the wax residue. The facial Nair made my lip turn red for a whole day. I'll never do that again.
  • Nair hair remover face cream. it's basically Nair for your face. Works great and painless. My friend uses it, my sister, and my mom to besides myself.
  • Sally Hanson COLD wax strips......i've been using them for years....i'm a fair-skinned blonde, but i dislike that side face-fuzz. I use them about once every other month. there is a slight redness but it goes away with a face moisturizer.
