Ohhhhh I soooo feel your pain with this. I can definately agree with the majority rule about THAT shirt....ewwwww

My issue, mind you I am a size 10, is that they make some "cute" tops with halters, or spaghetti straps however there is NO WAY you can wear a BRA that supports your "girls" and 9 out of 10 times if you have been heavy and lost weight, or have had children your "girls" just are not perky enough to go without a GOOD BRA.....

lostchick 11-09-2007 11:55 PM

Amen to that! Braless after 4 kids really isn't much of an option anymore :joker:

For spaghetti straps, I often wear a good bra and a jacket or cardigan to hide the evidence! Some of the more God-awful patterns look much better when you match them with a solid color jacket. JC Penney usually has nice choices. I buy one or two nice fitted jackets (black, brown, tan, etc.) and pair them with loose and/or patterned blouses and it looks a million times better. Plus, I look thinner! Win-win!

IME, some 100% cotton is better than others (my mom complains that some hems of all-cotton t-shirts roll up after a few washings) but it's getting harder to find cotton/poly blends in any event (except in heather colors, and in turn, other than heather-gray, if I want heathers I have to turn to Lands'End and L.L. Bean: Woman Within and Roaman's had them for a while but just have the heather gray now, I'll have to look at the new Lane Bryant 'log and see what they have, and except for one t-shirt with freaking uplifting slogans on it Junonia doesn't even *have* anything in heather colors )

I don't mind small floral prints, my taste simply doesn't run to big f p anyway, and I wouldn't wear tank tops or leopard prints if my life depended on it

A lot of tank tops being made in plus size flare out at the bottom. I don't want it to be tight, but I don't need it to make me look like i'm 9 months pregnant, either!

I've been finding some nice clothes at Macy's, Torrid, and JcPenney.

Why do they think everyone looks good in an empire waist? I have a short torso and long legs my hips go up to the top of my belly button so those empire waistes make me look huge! I don't see why they have to do that with those prints for bigger sizes I don't think they'd be flattering on anyone. why not just make the top a solid color? I think they're more flattering than crazy prints.

Have you tried NY&CO? Their pants come in lengths...and I feel your pain, because I'm tall too :D

My big problem with plus size styles right now (Lane Bryant included--actually a MAJOR offender in my book) is all the tops that come with high-waisted belts or ribbons to tie around. Umm, hello, I'm fat--I do NOT have an hourglass figure, so when I tie such a band around my waist (or where my waist would be), one of 2 things happens: it gets sucked into what I like to call my roll hole (that crease between 2 rolls) or it rises up higher and makes me look very much pregnant. IMO, this style ONLY flatters those who are just slightly large (the smaller plus sizes), but not the rest of us who are above a size 20 or so top. And since that's apparently what is "in" this season, I can't find anything that looks good on me!

</rant>:p

Really, does anyone look good in tops with ribbon belts? I thought they even made the standard-sized models look bigger than they were. They should be banned!

Rebecca0x0 12-08-2007 09:57 PM

Oh my gosh...I totally agree with all of these rants! lol :) I really like the clothes at Torrid...but I can't afford all that stuff! Plus I'm a 26 in pants, and a 30/32 in shirts :( So none of the stuff fits right. Actually I could wear smaller shirts but they look horrendous on me! Ew and I got a bathing suit from there before that didn't come large enough for my boobs and they ended up being smashed and pushed DOWN! I had no time to return it because I got it one week before a beach vaca! :P It really sucked! But anyway ...back to the clothing problem. Now these stupid high waisted belt things....they usually look like a GIANT horizontal stripe....now isn't it a well known fact that horizontal strips make you look bigger?! Who would want that?!?!? Like 50% of the reason I want to lose weight is to get out of these plus sized stores!!!

</rant> :)

Ready4aChange 12-09-2007 07:31 PM

jillybean -- I know what you mean about those tops -- I carry my weight in my stomach so it's just so not right.
Honestly, I usually get clothes from Saks 5th Ave.-- it's ridiculously priced, but when it comes to nicer clothes for work or certain events, it tends to be worth it because you can get a couple of good pieces and sort of make your base wardrobe from that and add from there from other stores.

lottie63 12-10-2007 11:36 PM

I <3 torrid and lane bryant for 'classier' stuff (I guess that's an ok word)

I like shopping at plus size stores, I want to support them for being there for me. I never shop in the 'plus section' at normal stores. The clothes are just awful.

Torrid isn't really "goth" or even "alternative" anymore. There is verylittle of that left because the market wasn't big enough, they are far more mainstream now, so much so that I find it difficult to find stuff I like cuz though I'm not goth I like more alternative looks.

lottie63 12-10-2007 11:44 PM

Oh yes, horizontal stripes, I don't understand. I walked into lane bryant once and was ASSAULTED by horizontal stripes and I said, "Do the bosses not know this is a fat girl store? What's up with the stripes?" and the lady was like "I KNOW!"

heh. hate that.

Sharkysmachine 12-17-2007 10:55 AM

I actually like the wide belts. I wear them all the time to define my waist. I was so against it before but it really does define the waist and creates a hourglass if you don't have one or emphasize one if you do (I do.).

I'm not as plus any more or at all, but back in the day I craved A line skirts in good sturdy fabrics in great colors. I had this elastic waist A line cherry red grandma polyester skirt from Hammericks that was 6.98 I scored seven years ago and I loved it so much. It finally fell apart, but it carried me through four sizes and looked so smart whether paired with a turtleneck or a tank top. I want stuff like that. I miss hammericks!

scorpiochic 01-01-2008 11:49 AM

I do think things are getting slowly better along this line. I just use the styles I want to get into as extra motivation for now.

Shopaholic1204 01-13-2008 07:15 PM

I've never really had that problem. I ALWAYS shop at Torrid and I think the clothes there are great!!!!!!
