Lane Bryant New Sizes

What do you think of Lane Bryant's new jean sizes? I was there the other day and thought I had lost my mind. I was trying to find some jeans and the sizes were 3's and 7's. I was like "WTH are they no longer selling plus sizes?"

I don't like their new system at all. I think it's the vanity sizing gone crazy!! I now wear a size 1 at Lane Bryant. Give me a break! I'm actually a 14/16. Who do they think they are fooling? It's just frustrating... how will we ever know what size we really wear?

I wish we could just have waist and inseam sizes like men! Why do they make it so complicated? :?:

Torrid has that type of sizing too. Kinda annoying.

vealcalf2000 08-15-2007 08:41 PM

Who do these companies think they are fooling? As if someone would be stupid enough to think "my" size 2 was the same as my 100 lb friend's size "2". I second sizing women's clothing like men. My husband NEVER has a problem getting his pants to fit because if it says 38 inch waste and 30 inch in length he knows it'll fit--what a no brainer!

I think it's ridiculous. I think it's marketing targeted at making plus size women feel "normal", by keeping the double-digits out of the picture. I don't think it'll help anyone's self esteem, though. Women aren't stupid. They know the difference. The marketing ploy is silly to say the least. I saw a sign in the window that was advertising that when I was at the mall last weekend...I just shook my head. I can't shop in Lane Bryant anymore (I used to), but I think that if I was still in plus sizes and Lane Bryant tried to pull that crap, I'd be more than a little annoyed.

And I agree--I wish more womens' pants went by measurement and not by numbered sizes. Men have it SO easy.

NightengaleShane 08-17-2007 11:53 AM

That kind of extreme vanity sizing is absolutely ridiculous.

There are some women's clothes that go by waist sizes (7 for All Mankind, Citizens of Humanity, H&M, Miss Sixty, and a whole bunch of others in the high fashion and wannabe high fashion realm), but the size you wear can STILL vary! Also, since we usually wear our pants more around the hips, I've found that the waist number size a woman can wear is usually bigger than what her waist is - you can either add the waist and hips and divide by two, or add a few inches onto your waist/subtract a few from your hips. The problem even with waist number sizes is that you can wear a completely different size depending on the fit

Say what!? That's crazy. I haven't shopped at Lane Bryant in a long time, not sure if their clothes would still fit me. Maybe I should go check them out again, it would be awesome to try on a pair of size 1 pants and have them be too big. :p

BrokenButterfly 08-17-2007 03:58 PM

That is crazy! God, and I was upset that the plus-size store I work at has added an X-tra small to the shirts. WTF? It makes no sense at all.

And customers are really annoyed about it actually

kaplods 08-17-2007 04:55 PM

On one hand it's ridiculous, but since the "standards" in sizing have been lost so long ago, at least there isn't any hiding the fact that the "new" sizes are completely arbitrary. Why not call them A, B, C.... ? I think it isn't any more ridiculous than the fact that a size 6 in one clothing manufacturer is actually the same as a size 10 for another.

Schmoodle 08-19-2007 01:50 PM

What stinks about this for me is that I've been a 20 at LB for a long time. I've been putting off getting new clothes, but now that I can take my jeans off without unbuttoning, I think the time is coming. I was looking forward to trying on jeans at LB to see what size I am now. But since they've changed all the sizes, I don't really have a good basis for comparison anymore. :(

vanity sizing i do not like at all. i do like the different CUTs though, i think that is a good idea. now if lane bryant could figure out that ALL their pants button ABOVE my belly button and make my pooch look even worse and do something about that would be nice!

jennylou 08-23-2007 12:41 AM

I'm not crazy about the new numbering, but I love the idea of the new cuts. I'm hippy and have always had a crazy hard time finding pants to fit my waist and hips. I end up with some crazy back gap. They could have done the same thing and left the sizing the same, IMO (ex Red 14, Blue 16, etc).

I'm actually working on an article about this that postulates we should be able to buy pants by waist measurement hip measure ment Rise measurement and for us short chicks inseam!
Once I get the survey completed would you all be interested in participating?

kittymuse 08-23-2007 01:00 PM

My hips have always been 10" bigger than my waist, so I like the idea of being able to pick between several shapes. Other stores have had this for a while. I picked up a pair of the "blue" jeans, and they are the first pair I've ever had that don't gap in the waist when I sit. If I wanted, I could wear shorter shirts and not fear showing off my butt! The only problem is that they assume you've got a tummy pooch (the jeans actually have tiny pleats all the way around that barely show). They fit my back end perfectly, but leave a little tummy pooch in front that isn't due to my body at all.

Oh, and I got the dark blue and after washing they still smell like dye. I'm hoping that goes away soon. Ick.

I would LOVE to be able to buy jeans by rise/inseam/waist/hips. My legs are long and my torso is normal. Tall jeans always come up to my ribcage and normal jeans make me look like I'm waiting for the flood. The low rise trend has helped that some.

cathych 08-23-2007 02:19 PM

chicos has the same sizing too.

SkiniJeni 08-23-2007 09:05 PM

Schmoodle check their sales rack. They still have the old sizes, and hey they are cheaper. I'm going through sizes so quickly I'm so glad for sales racks, but it's a good problem!

KO I would love to participate. I hate vanity sizing, and I just don't understand why we women can't have sizing like men. It would be so much easier.
