I have a men's small chore coat. I really had to hunt to find a small one. I needed something carcoat length that was warm and sturdy enough in case I slide into a snow bank on my way to work in the winter.
I've found lots of cute women's coats but this one seemed waaay more practical.

I wear boys plain white t-shirts too. Can't beat the price!

For those who fit the clothes another reason to shop the mens' department is the quality is usually better and the price lower than for similar clothes in the various ladies' sections. Like five bucks for a pair of flannel dorm pants with pockets and a real drawstring in mens' as opposed to eleven bucks for a pair with no pockets and a useless bow in ladies.

Conversion to mens size?

Does anyone know of a fairly reliable way to figure out what size mens jeans to buy for yourself? Or do you just have to try them on?
Not to easy though when you buy on-line....

Anyway, I say wear whatever the heck you want, be yourself, set your wardrobe and your soul free to experiment with what you like to wear!

Preach it. You know, the "pink-girl/blue-boy" meme only became etched in stone in the US after WWII. Before that, a lot of style-mavens claimed exactly the opposite! Check this link: http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=238733
You could also Google "pink girl blue boy" or some such combo and see what hits you get

2. I like colors like forest green, burgundy and the like, and have no particular trouble getting them from women-only catalogs like Roaman's and Woman Within, but L.L. Bean and Lands' End, which sell the same models of turtlenecks and t-shirts for men and women, are way more likely to have deeper tones for men-only while for women-only they have brighter, "fruitier/flowerier" shades, especially in the heathers (other than heather gray Roaman's & WW don't even have heather colors any more ), and while I don't mind the fruity stuff I like the darker tones (not a complexion issue, just preference) :tantrum:

3. Decent Exposures custom-makes bras and undies (including men's briefs) in a very wide range of colors: from them I have (sports-type and very no-frills) bras in dark green and maroon, and you can order men's briefs in pink or lavender

Umm,

I would recommend measuring your waist with a tape measure, and measuring your inseam. We don't like to do things difficult.

Now, is there a reliable way to figure out what size women's pants I can buy for myself - assuming I would wear them?

Hmm, FresnoBeeDude, I actually disagree about measuring your waist and then buying the pants, because women also have hips and butt to worry about.

So, from a chick perspective:
Measure your waist and measure your butt. Take the average of the two numbers. This will most likely be your men's clothing size. For instance, my butt is a little over 36" but my waist is 28-29". I wear a 32 or 31 (if I can find it) in most men's pants.

As for how you could fit into women's pants... uhhh... umm... see, women's sizes are a little more complicated, as it all depends on the designer. You would have to look at the desired designer's web site and follow their sizing chart ;)

I agree with Shane. We have butts and thighs to worry about, we can't use our waist. Actually, MEN's sizes don't really even go by their waist, since they don't have one. ;) The natural waist on a woman is actually near the naval area-sometimes even a little above that-and men never wear their pants that high. If men were built like women, they would actually be wearing their pants on their upper hip-so men aren't even going by their waist. They are using their upper hip measurement.

Here's a link to another article about blue, pink and (little) boys/girls clothing:

ANOther - I agree on the colours, I like the deeper or richer mens colours too. I often wear mens t-shirts to get the darker or oxide-y shades rather than the fruity or jewel tones usually available for women. For some reason greens have been particularly bad in recent years - rich greens for men but pastelish colours for women. I'm learning to sew the mens t-s into a more feminine fit!

I do agree on the color tones of womens clothing being awful...especially with my red hair. Light blondes and those with real rich brunette hair can get away with the bright jewel or fruity colors, but the only jewel tone I can get away with is emerald green. Jewel purple, magenta, tropical orange-they are truly lovely colors, but unless you have a coloring like Barbie or Salma Hayek, they are really hard to pull off...

Fuschia, magenta, and any brighter pink clashes with my hair...bright orange and true red compete with it way too much. So, I end up having to look for emerald green, black, or white. It gets boring after a while.

Mens clothing does seem to have better colors-rusts, greens, browns, beiges, creams, deeper blues, etc. They would work much better with my coloring-if they only fit me. :(

I actually wear mine above the belly button, as that is how the pants were designed. If I wear them below the gut then the world will see my vertical smile, the old plumbers crack.

I didn't realize that clothing shopping was difficult :?:
