maybe it is an issue of if I was thin....but I've always felt self conscious in very tight clothing....it's not that I wear such baggie clothes they fall off my *** or are of hip hop style... I just like there to be some space between me and my pants.
I'm also not very fashionable. I look nice for work and I know how to rock an outfit, I'm just not hte girl who can spend a whole day at the mall looking at clothes, despite my size. I do love dresses, though, and long skirts....so perhaps there is girliness in me after all. |
I feel very self conscious in very tight clothing, but that could be that I still don't think I have the body to pull it off properly! Even when I get down to my once lowest weight, I don't think I'm going to walk around in outlandishly skimpy clothing or anything, though I DO intend to have nice abs, and if Ig et those abs, I'm going to try to show them off whenever possible... well, without looking like a ho, of course! ;)

I used to like men's clothing, before they started making good women's jeans that would sit on my hips. I always hated that extra area around the crotch, though. I buy Old Navy jeans now, and only shop women's. the clothes just fit my body and I actually like "fitting" clothes better, even clingy ones! :)

Hehehe, the smaller I get, the more women's clothes I like :D
At my HW, I wore men's clothes because they were comfortable and hid all my blubber. Now that my hour glass figure (well, hour glass for a white girl!) is coming back, I just want to wear clothes that show it off!! |
I can't wear men's clothing at all...
Men's t-shirts and shirts are made larger in the shoulders, and straight through the waist/hip area-built like men are. Their jeans are straight through the hips and thigh area as well. They might work well for a woman with a small chest, larger shoulders, or the apple type figure-where the woman who is heavier up top or in the belly, with a straighter shaped lower body. Men's clothes are a nightmare on a pear or hourglass figure. Because of my cuves, they are too large in the shoulders, too big in the waist, and too tight in the hips/thighs. *sigh* |
Awww Aphil, I agree that some men's clothes ARE nightmareish to pull off. However, I do love the style of mens' button downs and I've bought them just to get them custom tailored into a more flattering, feminine fit. Also, at my highest weight, baggy men's t-shirts and men's pants hid my fat much better than women's clothes did. The last thing I wanted to do was draw any kind of attention to myself.
With that said, men's button downs are **** for me right now, unless they ARE tailored. I have a big chest (36C, large C I might add), a flat stomach, a now well defined waist (29ish currently, but at HW I was a 33 :o), so I've lately been wearing clothes that show off my mock hourglass rather than hiding my body. It's LIBERATING... but I digress... men's clothing STILL make GREAT PJ's! :D You are lucky, Aphil, to be a pear by default. :) Pears always look slimmer than apples even if their bodyfat percentage is roughly the same ;) |
I have tendencies of both hourglass and pear figure types-sorta like a pear with big boobs (DD). I look hourglass because my chest balances everything out, but my upper body frame (wrists, ribcage size, and shoulder width) are actually small compared to my wider hipbones. I would say partially inbetween.
Whether or not we look smaller, really, depends on how we dress. If I wear a long skirt or palazzo pants, and a top that shows off my waist I look thinner than I really am...but if I were to wear a big sweatshirt (hiding my waistline) and jean shorts...I look heavier than I am, because I am hiding the thin, and showing the fat. |
Haha, yeah, but see! Pear shaped girls are lucky because they can wear tighter clothes AND look thinner! hehe. At my HW, I had to wear baggy clothes because even though I had boobs, I also had a waist that was almost as big (well, not quite, it didn't stick out that much but there were massive love handles involved), so I just hid everything under a big, baggy shirt so that no one would know what was going on under there.
I am the perfect hourglass while thin (at 125 pounds, I Was 36C-26-36) but when I gain, I gain it in the most unflattering of places - love handles, then double chin (I was going on triple at my highest!), then thunder thighs, then gut (the pokey outey kind). I lost weight, so I no longer look like a fat kid, but I'm just saying - it must be nice to still be able to wear cute clothes before losing weight without looking like a Louisiana stuffed sausage :) |
I've recently discovered the boy's department at Target. The weirdest thing is that jrs. and boy's are sized more or less the same! :dizzy:
I have a short torso, linebacker shoulders, a thick waist (35.5-28-35), and smallish boobs (B's and it seems like they're shrinking every day :( ) so basically my top half is built like a little boy. |
SavingServo-
Juniors ARE cut straighter. That is why some clothes are marked misses, and some juniors. The juniors are in odd sizes...while misses are in even ones. Juniors are meant for teens with less developed figures, so they don't have as much hip and breast room in them as misses do-meant for fully mature women. NightengaleShane-yes, hourglasses and pears can wear tighter stuff through the waist and look good...just don't get us anywhere near Daisy Dukes. We are prone to thunder thighs... |
I've never restricted myself to one or two departments when clothes shopping. I just buy whatever fits and looks fairly decent on. I currently have wearable clothes from the mens', misses', junior's and boy's departments. And when I get close to my goal weight(105-110 pounds) I'll start shopping in the girls' department too.

Wow, I wish my pregnant friend at work saw this. She has been complaing that she is "outgrowing" her clothes. I have offered to donate my beautiful, yet adjustable sweats (I had them up to 64", if you undo the knots you can get them even bigger!) and my very stylish 3XL shirts.
She has been declining my offer. Now I wonder if EZMONEY will start a thread about women's clothing being comfortable? |
