The local scam happens when a delivery person shows up with a large box from unknown sender, "The card will be delivered separately." But you have to "run your credit card to verify your identity." Ooops. Seems that a number of people have fallen for the loss of their credit card info in exchange for a box of junk.
I face several Christmas parties this week that require me to remember that they won't be my last source of food for the year. The one that I had to pay for allows me to feel that I need to get my money's worth - a really dumb feeling.
I haven't heard that one, Bill. But I do have a number of things on Craig's list and have (almost) fallen for one scam. I know better now.
DD and SIL were going to come on Saturday to watch a football game that they can't get at their house (on a channel we get, but they don't). I assumed they'd stay overnight and then go home until closer to Christmas. I thought a great dinner during the game would be brisket and caramelized onion sliders. Bought the ingredients and then announced my plans. DD responded that they decided not to come for the game after all as they were thinking of staying through Christmas and decided it'd be too long to leave their cats alone. I'm kind of glad they're not going to do that--feeding and entertaining that many people for that many days is tiring. The four days they'll be here will be enough.
The dates on the chat thread sent me into a momentary panic! December 20!!
I spent a very busy weekend and feel very accomplished though. Took care of dh-- he is definitely getting better and more independent....
Bought the last (hopefully) holiday gifts, wrapped a ton, shipped (!) the ones that needed mailing (that was a highlight as I was thrilled to go to my local Staples to mail everything and avoid the post office), get my holiday cards mostly ready.... And even went to bikram yoga Saturday and Sunday! Sunday was very bad weather so no doggie walks-- which meant Ellie was a little stir crazy. Took them for a walk this morning and left them with dh-- he has moved downstairs to work from home so hope the dogs don't bother him too much.
My weight is better than it has been for months. I'm hesitant to change my ticker as that always jinxes it....
Now to navigate the food of the holidays as both girls come home this week. Younger dd comes home Wednesday and stays till January 6. Older dd comes home Saturday and stays till January 2 (brings her dog too....)....
Older dd and dh usually do the cooking but since dh is out of commission, dd is planning fancy Christmas and NYE dinners. If I can curb my decadence to those two meals, I'll be doing well I hope.
I'm so not ready for Christmas to be here yet. Nothing wrapped, still things to buy.
Me too. I can't think of gifts for the three granddaughters and DH is of no help whatsoever. They are 14, 13 and 11. I do not like buying gifts unless I know it is exactly what the person will like.
Have looked Chia Pets up as I've never heard of them. Amazon says, "Collecting and growing Chia Pet pottery planters has become an American tradition."
I have so little contact with most of the younger people I see at Christmas that I just ask them for several places for which they'd like a gift card and pick one. I pick out a really nice Christmas card and put the gift card in it.
Over many years I got so much weird inappropriate stuff that I donated to Goodwill that I thought I'd spare them that.
When in doubt, my go-to is an iTunes gift card or a TJ Maxx gift card.
I'm glad to be having a Christmas this year, since my mother canceled it last year because of my injury. And then she regretted it later, particularly on the day itself, which was one of my more depressing holidays.
Wow, y'all are making me feel like a grinch. I haven't written any of my Christmas cards, and I've purchased exactly one present. (Not including the new bathing suit I bought myself ... but, that's more a device for psychological self-flagellation than it is a present.) I guess most of my family will be receiving iTunes gift cards this year, even those whose idea of a personal music device is the AM radio on their alarm clocks.
The good news on the fat loss front: in Sunday's upper body workout, I benched the "big girl" plates, i.e., 45 lb on each side (135 total). Been a couple of years since I've been able to do that without causing shoulder pain.
Bad news: I've been struggling to keep the empty carbs out of my diet, and eating closer to maintenance calories than in a deficit. Turns out, it's pretty tough to lose fat if you're eating as many calories as you are burning. Go figure.
Wow, Kaw! I saw ladies lifting the big girl plates at the gym and I went over and lifted just the bar-- that alone was heavy! Don't know that I'll ever get where you are.
Many of the teens/ young adults I bought for are getting iTunes cards and/or Starbucks cards...
My weight was up 1.6 today from yesterday. See... I jinxed myself by changing my ticker. Or could be the body pump I did yesterday coupled with sodium from the chili I made (and ate too much of).
Kaw, it's really not a bad idea to eat at maintenance for a few days. Sometimes our bodies just don't want to deal with a deficit, esp. when you are lifting heavy! I'm at my maintenance weight right now, but I like to do a deficit a few days a week and eat some extra carbs a few days. The deficit days just seem to materialize when I realize I'm not very hungry that afternoon, so with a few good food choices I can make it to bedtime a few hundred under my burn.
Yes, I think chia pets are back and can be purchased on amazon. But I opted for scarves and slipper socks. I got them in each girl's favorite color.
Wow; I'm jealous. I bench 105 x 6 and consider that a major effort. Anyway,
gotta say I agree with Alice; unless you're really heavy or really out of shape, you can't both cut and bulk simultaneously. Sounds like you're making some strength gains at the temporary expense of not cutting. That's not so bad :>)
Chia pets make me laugh. Very 80s, sort of like pet rocks.
And I need to get gifts for my research assistant, study coordinator and grad student. I usually default to gift cards but this year I think I'm going to give massage gift certificates.
Can I come work for you, Andrea?? A massage gift sounds amazing!!!!
Dh is trying to drive himself to work today... hope it goes well... work is less than 2 miles from home and it's his left knee so it should go ok?? I'll worry until I know he makes it in safely (and home).
Tonight we pick up younger dd from the airport. She'll be home for almost a month! Love having her home but it sure disrupts my routines--- which are already disrupted with dh's surgery. Disruption starts today as I won't be able to make the gym and we will have to stop on the way home for some sort of dinner.... trying not to stress eat the chocolates and cookies that are starting to be gifted to me!!
