Weather is normal - I've found my winter coat; the storm windows are down; the patio umbrella is stored. Let winter come as it sees fit.
Just saw a weather prediction map that the U.S. East Coast will have a colder winter with more snow than average. I don't know if that's a real prediction or just the current version of The Farmer's Almanac.
My goal is to get outside despite the cold - something I only have difficulty with at the transition. Once winter sets in, getting out of the house is appealing enough that I just do it.
Bill, I have just spent 1.5 hours at the table (computer), eaten lunch and my feet are cold. They could get a lot colder. I am talking myself into walking to and from the car several times to get the shopping. It might add up to 0.25 mile when all is said and done, and my feet will be warmer. But I don't feel like doing it either!
Once again, I will if you will. And I'll put on my pedometer to see what I can actually rack up.
It's freezing here in the midwest. Much colder than usual -- it feels like we skipped November and December and went straight to January! Temperatures down below 20 again this morning. Sigh.
We got our first snow of the season yesterday so we dressed up DDs in their snow suits to go play a little bit. Photos attached -- it was close to bedtime, that's why C looks so sleepy! (A is in the darker purple, C is in the lighter purple, and yes that's me leaning over to put mittens on them.)
saef~best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery.
The weekend of birthday celebrations went well. My brother was completely surprised Friday night when he arrived at the restaurant. My gift to all was to pick up that tab. My SIL did a salmon dinner the next evening and then Sunday morning we went to brunch. DH and I obviously had our fill as we sat in the airport last night we weren't at all hungry for dinner so we shared a charcuterie board--just enough to get us through the night.
The weekend was terribly cold (especially for us desert rats). 16 degrees yesterday when we woke up and it never got above freezing. Glad to be home!
First snow on the ground here this morning - about 2 inches. But now rain is washing it all away. I'm dressed in enough layers to stay dry that I'm a little too hot, but warm is better than cold when you're outside all day.
Nice pics of the girls Jessica. And I'm really glad to see Carter in the background. Hope he's improving at sharing the house with the kids.
Trixie and Nat both stood on the deck yesterday sniffing around in the snow. Then Trix ran down into the yard and Nat ran back into the house. Nat keeps asking to go out, coming back, and trying again 5 minutes later. She's convinced that somehow the snow will go away the next time she does this. I give her 3 tries and then she's in.
I'm freezing here too but I shouldn't complain about my 37 degree drive in when I know it will warm up to the 60s later.
I go back to the chiro today and I'm hoping he will say I can continue my modified yoga. I talked to the main teacher about my back and I'm only doing the poses where my back is straight or leaning back-- nothing leaning forward as that is what is so painful. It is feeling better than a few days ago when I re-aggravated it so I'm hoping it is healing, albeit slowly.
This is my "slingshot" week where I eat carbs for each meal. My dd says she often sees a gain during that week and then a big drop the next week, so we will see. Next week being thanksgiving will be a tricky one and I have a T-Day feast at work this week as well.
Well enough, I suppose. His gait is getting a lot worse and obviously his eyesight it horrendous as he doesn't "see" stuff. He claims to have a housecleaner who comes twice a month, but it appears his toilet bowl hasn't been cleaned for months. I wonder what it is she does there. We took him to brunch for his birthday yesterday and my SIL obviously didn't think about the architecture of the restaurant when she made the reservation because it has a huge stone circular stairway to get from the entry to the dining room. He managed but we were all on pins and needles both on the way up and again down.
We were going through old photos and I found one of him and what appeared to be his two brothers from sometime in the late '70's or early 80's. He couldn't tell if the guy in the middle was his brother or not (I've only met him twice, so I wasn't sure, I was 100% sure on the other brother). Thankfully I'm friends with his kids on Facebook so I took a picture of the photo and forwarded it to a cousin who verified it was her dad. I guess she sent it to her siblings as they thanked me for the photo.
We are having unusually cold weather for Florida but I'm not complaining! In fact no one I know is. We've had very hot falls/winters the past few years so we are happy to have it a little cooler.
DD accepted the job! She starts mid-July. So we may go visit the relatives in Germany in June. She seems to think she is going to get her own apartment. I'm not so sure about that in Manhattan, but we will see. She also has no furniture up there because she's been in a dorm all this time. Well, she's a smart one, she will work it out and I can try not to worry from afar.
Jessica~I loved the pic with the girls all bundled up and in their strollers that you posted on FB. Please tell why (was it C?) that had a bucket on her head under her jacket! So adorable.
I'm back to exercising after the weekend away. I couldn't imagine getting up at 4 am yesterday after not getting to bed until 11:30 (and then not being able to fall asleep). DH ended up coming home early yesterday to take a nap. I had no trouble until after dinner when we sat down to watch some shows on TV. Yep, fell asleep immediately for about 15 minutes.
It's been "one of those days." Many of you are aware of my "situation" with my office assistant at work. Due to her numerous absences the past few months, I had decided when we began our new company that I'd be doing the majority of the bookkeeping entry. In the past, she did it and I really never felt like I knew 100% how to do it. I figured this would be the best way to learn it inside and out. And today, I had to prove myself. My CPA called with some issues that in the past would have completely dumbfounded me but today, with the little bit of knowledge that I've learned (by myself) the past two or so months paid off and I was able to solve all the problems without wrecking the books! I feel like I've earned a pat on the back today!!!
And that pat on the back was getting my hair done this morning (albeit under stress trying to visualize the accounting problem without hands on the program!).
Meanwhile my Son-in-Law came to visit us at the office today. Apparently DH spoke to him and DD the last time we saw them (at a friend's wedding) and no one told me of the conversation. I guess SIL is feeling like he has a dead-end job (yeah, cashier at Sam's Club) and DH suggested he might like to work for us. So he's out and about with DH looking at the kind of work we do. DH is kind of hoping to really immerse him in the business so eventually he can take it over and we can retire. I don't know if that is possible or not, but we'll try. But logistically it'll be difficult as he lives 1.5 hours drive away. It might mean him living with us during the week. We'll see what happens.
Allison How nice that you are so gracious with family members. I hope your SIL appreciates what could be a really great situation for him.
And for figuring out the accounting! I dread tax time every year (I'm numerically challenged ) but feel a real sense of accomplishment once I get through the weekend of work that my return requires.
