No longer cold all the time

  • Hi all,

For the first three months after reaching my goal weight I was cold all the time, even when wearing several layers of clothing in our house, which is heated to 70 degrees. I found myself taking two showers a day, just to warm up, and using a space heater two feet from my face. At some point in the past few weeks I noticed that I've stopped shivering. I take this to mean that my metabolism was suppressed when I first started to maintain and has now bounced back to normal -- possibly because of the regular exercise I've been doing.

Any other maintainers with similar (or different) experiences with their internal thermostat?

  • Back when I hit 125 and upped my calories I stopped getting cold too.

I'm not quite as warm as I was when I was at my starting weight, but I am no longer freezing all the time!

I timed it quite well, haha, hitting the winter months and being not quite so cold
  • Ha! Glad it adjusted.

I've never felt any difference. I'm usually colder than other people, but I was like that when I was both at my heaviest and at my thinnest
  • I was freezing all the time when losing. Now I'm still colder than when I had all the extra insulation, but it's much better. Except after exercising-- I really freeze then.
  • I cycle between maintenance and losing and have for a few years. Whenever I drop into a calorie deficit to lose a chunk of weight I get extremely cold, and whenever I refeed or normally maintain I warm back up. For me it isn't the weight I am at, but what my metabolism is doing. Once I am maintaining it takes a few weeks to get warm again, but then I'm fine.

When I overeat, I seriously find myself got and sweaty. I am noticing these correlations more and more and it's kind of fascinating

Same here. My ex-husband used to go winter camping, and one of the ways he kept himself warm was by eating 6,000 calories per day. Of course, he burned it all off by pulling a loaded sled over snow and ice. (Insisting that I join him on some of these "adventures" is just one of the reasons he's now my ex. My current husband is a B&B kind of guy, which suits me just fine.)
