Friday, Dec. 9th:

45 minute spin class
60 minute beginner Kripalu yoga class

Back to yoga class, which I'd been blowing off every night during the past week. I loved it and I am wondering at myself. I know it's because of the deep darkness at the end of the day, which tells me to stay home and huddle at the computer. Well, it's wrong. I'd be much happier getting out into the larger world and doing yoga in a class.

Saturday, Dec. 10th:

Sunday, Dec. 11th:

10:14 to get to 2,013 meters on the Concept 2 rowing machine
60 minutes back and biceps with weights
30 minutes arc trainer, weight training, resistance at eight
60 minutes vinyasa yoga, the one that I struggle with mightily, taught by an ex-dancer

Monday, Dec. 12th:

45 minute spin class, with weight intervals, back at my old gym. I was pretty done in late in this class. I wondered if I've lost some endurance, or if my presence inspired the instructor to push, just to see if I was up to it after being away, since my bike was directly opposite hers.

Catching up here, not having spent much time online yesterday ...

Tuesday, Dec. 13th:
9:15 minutes rowing on the familiar Concept 2 at my old gym to get just past 2,000 meters
45 minutes arm & shoulders routine, just once through
45 minutes on my old friend the elliptical, resistance at eight, for random intervals, and yes, it kicked my butt & has left me sore in completely new places.

Wednesday, Dec. 14th:
45 minute spin class, back Upstate, where we don't do jumps, don't do lighter-resistance sprint intervals, and don't lean way forward or way back while peddling. Just resistance at higher levels, which varies. The spin instructor downstate does not believe in high levels of resistance. She said to me, in a tone that brooked no argument, "I don't care what people say, high resistance bulks up your legs."

:dizzy: High resistance builds leg muscle, it's true. I am endlessly amazed by how many women actively try to NOT have muscle in their legs for fear of looking bulky. There's one pilates video I do (yes Saef, Pop Pilates again) where she has a calf move and while we're doing it, does this monologue something along the lines of, "People keep asking me, how do I avoid getting bulky calves? And I think, muscular calves are sexy calves! So if you've got them, be proud! But if you don't want muscles in your calves then . . . I guess don't do this move. But you should have muscles!"

Dec. 13: none

Dec. 14: everything was working against me working out today. Dd had to be picked up at my regular class time so I planned to go to an 8 pm UJAM class. Everything hurt, I was tired, and it was cold out... I had to drag myself out...got to the gym and then remembered that the gym was "closing" at 8 pm to replace all of the cardio equipment. I was about to leave, but I asked and they were still having the class. Very glad I did it! I'm hoping it helps my crankiness. The next several days will be hard to fit exercise in, but I'm going to try!

Michele, you're right. I never know what the date is when I am not working. When I'm working, I'm staring at the date and time stamps on emails all day, or filling in dates, but when I'm not working, I have to make a point of checking a calendar.

Actually, on Saturday, I didn't do any formal exercise, as I woke up at 3:30 AM to take an early morning bus into Manhattan, and then did not get home till 1 AM the following morning.

Today, though, on Dec. 28th (oh no, I did it again!) Dec. 18th:
About 10:40 minutes rowing on the Concept 2 to get to 2,000 meters, and unfortunately, I did something to my lower back which is now sore as heck
60 minutes weights, back and biceps, with lat pulldowns and assisted pullups
45 minutes arc trainer, 2-to-1 intervals, resistance at eight, which was heavy going

Oh no! Where did the time go?? I must have sleepwalked through at least a week. And I should be in Edinburgh today!

I'm having breakfast in bed at the moment. I'll get up soon and perform a FEAT. One hour + of focused exercise at home in our newly spacious sitting room.
